Lazio Chalkboard

Good afternoon.

The first thing that crosses my mind is that is AVB was still in charge at Second Hand Fridge that this morning’s papers would be awash with pundits, journos and other assorted intellectuals doing passable impressions of hyenas on heat. Funny old game Saint.

At five minutes past eight BST this evening we play Lazio in the Europa cup, then. Other Premier League compatriots playing tonight are Newcastle who are away at Marítimo and Liverpool who travel to Young Boys. My thoughts are that I don’t really care what occurs with Toon, but would delight in Bredan Rodgers heading back to Merseyside feeling like a condemned man.

I’d argue that it’s impossible to think of Lazio for any Spurs fan and not think of Gazza. And enjoy a small smile. So many Gazza tales. Many apocryphal, most quite true. Nice to see the Lazio manager Vladimir Petkovic has spoken kindly and extended a personal invitation to Paul to attend the return leg at the Stadio Plimpico.

So how will we line up? Well, the clues are in the quote from the boss.

‘Rotation will come further down the line. At the moment the players aren’t tired so I think it’s important to keep them playing to continue this series of good performances. For now the players who are playing well will continue.’

Adebayor is out, but to be frank I wouldn’t have played him anyway. Defoe is in form, the style of his game doesn’t leave him suffering from physical exhaustion after each match so it would be nonsensical, not to say cruel to leave him out. I want to see Dempsey play alongside Defoe and it would be cool to give Lloris his first game.

Prediction. We win by a single goal, but it would be amazing if The Lane was rocking from the off and really got behind the manager, the team, the whole shebang. If this happens then we could, despite Lazio being a decent outfit cause some real damage.

Booing, grumbling, selective booing and generally wasting a seat that could have been occupied by someone who was up for supporting the Lilywhites isn’t on. If I could I’d wander about handing out bans to home fans who believe the price of admission allows them to act like the people in the away section.

Positives – Almost everything, bossed possession, good effort, working system, team gelling.

Negatives – think we are still lacking a real cutting edge to finish off all of the above. Think a lot of this may have to do with Defoe not really being able to knit the attacking elements together. He basically waits for the ball and shoots, but we need a less passive presence up front to pull everything that’s going on around him together.

That, in spite of his decent goal return and general good attitude and extra effort so far. He is too small for the role he’s been given, and ultimately too one-dimensional too. He can play very effectively in a 4-4-2 – especially against teams with poor defence – or as an impact sub.

Overall, it’s positive vibes here though.

Gylfi for me from the start we needed through balls,on stating that we did score 3 goals.

Been saying this for years. Flat track bully.

Another complete balls up by the incompetent ticket office.
I wanted to go as well last night. Season ticket holders get the first two cup matches included; obviously a lot of them didn’t bother going.

The club should ask them to send their vouchers in for exchange for a ticket. If they don’t bother by a certain date, then at least those seats can be sold.

Why they didn’t put the other seats on general sale beggars belief.

True TMWNN, I could not afford to go but did look to see if it was sold out. On the website there were very few seats left, could not buy more than 1 ticket in most blocks.

I was very suprised to see that there so many empty blue seats, even on the lower sections.

In my opinion, the ticket prices were too high, I know it was Lazio but we are all on a budget now and I think the ticket office over estimated who would want to go.

Also, any chance of turning off that auto-play on the podcast? That intro is starting to get on my wick!

I thought the same, HH and ODM, can you not stick in some classic Motson liners (Villa’s run in the 81 cup final, Gazza’s “He Is You Know” in 91 semi or are there licencing laws?

Saying that though, please keep the songs that run in the middle of the podcast, they are genius.
