Did You Know This…?

Good morning.

Of course some of you will have known this, but my guess is that some/many won’t. I only noticed this morning for what that yardstick is worth. The Midget Gem, the Master Swordsman himself has equaled the goalscoring achievements for Spurs of Robbie Keane. Both men have burst the onion sack 122 times from the same number of appearances for the mighty Tottinghams.

By complete chance I was comparing the two in conversation with ODM last night. By comparing I mean I was comparing the similar way I felt and the way fans felt about both.

You tell me what you think.

My view is that while both individually have their ardent supporters, there is a third section of fans who respect both but have never had complete and utter confidence or faith in either. Now this isn’t being churlish, because a 100+ goals are a 100+ goals anyway you slice it. More a case of never quite being able to ignore the weaknesses of both men.

Pointy Shouty Bloke for me invariably under hit his shots. Whenever he hit the ball there always seemed to be enough time to cross yourself and genuflect before you found out if the ball had gone in. Whilst he wasn’t the fastest striker on the planet he had a superb understanding of the game and contributed far more than just goals. It’s no coincidence that Berbatov never played as well  or scored so many as when he was teamed up with Robbie.

Defoe for me has rarely offered more than a receive, turn, ping it, wince/cheer (delete as appropriate) merchant. He has never really had a foil a such and it isn’t unfair to say that he has spent the majority of his career in the Lilywhite elating and frustrating fans in equal measure. Forever offside, frequently accused of being selfish he’s also saved our bacon and you have to respect him for that.

The bottom line I guess is there isn’t such a thing as a bad goal – both men deserve their place in the Club’s all time top ten but it’s highly unlikely either will be revered much outside of N17. If I wanted to really maudlin I’d pause to rue the fact that we just can’t seem to land a striker who offers the lot.

i saw something a few mths back saying that defoes assists last season was like 3 and ades was 17, not sure if this is spot on tho but it tells ya who our starting striker should be.
if defoe had passed a few times in the last few games then we would have had atleast another 4 goals to cheer at, but defoe is on form but just needs a striker beside him of demps or ades and to be told to pass the ball now and again to bring others into the team, afterall it is a team aint it?? he would get more praise from the loyal spurs fans for adding this to his game and would make it alot easier for us to say defoe to start

but i still belive he will get over 20 this season
it would be nice tho to give our wingers more of an option with a tall dude in the box that will also hold up the ball for the likes of dembelle sigs and demps to show there class
    coys!!

I really don’t understand why so many Spurs fans on the internet don’t like Defoe. Thank goodness he is around at the moment as who would be scoring if he wasn’t in the team. If he had been played more by the previous three managers his record would be closer to 200 by now. As as for slating him for not scoring more than 13 goals in a season, I’m guessing that is because he has rarely played more than 20 complete games in a season or played only 20 minutes or so in most of the games. I can understand when people hate total useless planks of wood and as most people are saying there are not many complete strikers around. Each season there are two or three strikers that get over 20 goals a season and then a few in the teens. If Jermain is allowed to play around 30 games thus season I have faith that he will break the 20 goal target, after all at the moment he is playing the loan striker and he is supposed to be useless at that. And yes OK he may get marked out of Saturday’s game at Old Trafford but what strikers don’t get a sniff there? Is our failure to not beat United all these years down to Defoe not scoring against them? He scored an early one recently and that didn’t help us to win. Not sure how many he has actually played against them. Anyway it’s all in the players heads or the referee’s ludicrous decisions to not allow goals or award penalties for trips by the grass.

Defoe in the ‘not good enough’ category.

‘He’s obsessed with my 36GG boobs,’ she claims in The News Of The World.

‘He loves it that he can fit his head into one of my bra caps – and he’s happy just sitting there in my bedroom like that, with my bra on his head.’

    Thats why I like Defoe!

I believe Defoe is better because while they have the same number of games Defoe has been used as a sub more so his goals to minutes on field ratio is better for sure.

But I hear what you are saying. They are almost there. You oh so wish they were fully there, sometime you lull yourself to sleep thinking they are, sometimes you go into denial and they are, but they aren’t are they?
