João Moutinho On …The João Moutinho Deal

Good afternoon.

Nothing earth shattering I have to say. a.bola.com the Portuguese site ran a speculative piece yesterday suggesting that come January Andrè Villas-Boas will try to resurrect the deal to bring João Moutinho to The Lane.  An interesting turn of phrase from the author, describing the situation on transfer deadline day night as…

“a negotiation that left the British on the brink of a nervous breakdown, after being forced to cancel a pre-enrollment Moutinho sent to the Premier League, just hours before the close of the transfer market in Western Europe.”

Also it supports the notion that there was a deal desperately trying to be hammered out and not a sinister work of fiction as purported by Robby Boy whatsisname from TopSpurs.com and others unable to cope with reality which is in the main, normally quite a humdrum business.

Today the player has issued the following in relation to the move…

“The market has already closed. Not worth talking more about it, I’m just focused on FC Porto and not on speculation. This club gives me all the stability to show my football”

This is what you’d expect from a professional footballer and I guess leaves the door open for ‘another go’ in January. The issue here is third party ownership. As I said on the last HHH, if you were buying a house – and we all know what a completely thankless grind that can be- and then just as you agree a deal a third party pops it’s head around the door in Harry Enfield ‘only me!’ style, telling you they own 15%, odds on it’s Game Over. Do Not Insert New Coin To Continue. Go Home.

I am so bored of all this, it’s the same every transfer window. We made signings and we didn’t make signings…deal with it. Personally I’ve supported the MIghty Spurs for over 30 years through thick and thin. Yes I get frustrated if we lose and get f*cked off if we roll over and die but the one thing that never changes is my loyalty and allegiance to Spurs. That will never change, so for all you muppets that want success bought by writing blank cheques than go support the Chavs and Citeh. Or better still speak to a Leeds fan!!! Rant over

Levy is just so frustrating , he takes so long to do transfers and he’s so mean with money…..and thank god he is , some the the remarks I’ve heard on here make me sick , all you have to do is look at what happened to Leeds an Pompey they went chasing dreams and found nightmares …We don’t have an oligarch to buy ys silver pots we have to do it off our own backs so when Levy takes for ever to settle a deal it’s because he’s screwing every last penny out of it , the Modric deal nearly had me in tears as did the Vert deal but we cannot just bend over and take what they want to give us , Levy saved enough on those two deals alone to pay for Dempsey…..Anybody who thinks he’s useless have a look at the last time we had a top 4 before the last 3 years …….When you’ve done that come back and tell me of a better chairman we’ve had …Guys grow up start living in the real world and thank your lucky stars we got Danny ….Yes he can be annoying but we have to do things the right way , we cant do things th Chelsea way

      well said mate!

Almost totally right. Except we can do things the Chelsea way if we wish, we just choose not to. And still got more points than them last season. Wonder why… hmm. Levy, what have you done? Our worst signig this summer? AVB, bless him. Oh, well, the wait for total football dominance goes on.

  • LLL says:

Anybody who thinks he’s useless have a look at the last time we had a top 4 before the last 3 years

Does that same argument hold for Redknapp too then? Incidentally, Levy only really backed Redknapp when we were up to our neck in the relegation shit. Not that I blame him, if he’d backed all of Redknapp’s horses I do think we would have been bankrupted by now. But just saying, like.

    • Minionas says:

Put your cards on the table LLL where do you think we’ ll finish? 5th me.

    • Jerkinmahjurgen says:

Trouble is the players Redknapp requested have mostly left, leaving us with the squad he inherited. Ade, Parker, Gallas, Friedel – the only players Harry signed we’ve still got or use. Maybe Walker? Anymore? He was backed in his 1st window to the tune of Keane [gone], Palacious [gone], etc. They done ok, or well, even in the short term but were not for the long term. Levy soon realised that you can’t risk those amounts on chances and maybe’s, or, to be more accurate, Harry didn’t look at the bigger picture. We need not just good prem players, as Palacious proves he is with Stoke, but those that the biggest clubs covert. Those with the ability to play higher than the levels they raise the club to. If we can pick one or two off each window without being financially humiliated, I’m happy.

I liked Harry we all did but he screwed himself unfortunatly…When the media gave him the England job he believed them and took his eye off the ball at Spurs , in that short time we threw away 10/11/12/13 point lead over 4th and it wasnt until Woy got the job that he started thinking about Spurs again where we took 3 wins and a draw from the last 4 games

  • Andy says:

The big assumption we all tend to make (given past history and character assessments) is that it is Levy who is always doing the holding out till the 11 O’Clocker to get a bargain. Maybe…just maybe its the other way around and our Mr Levy has been cock teased this time around by the likes of those slutty short shorts wearing boys with their unbelievable teckers (Moutinho and Damiao, Willian and Liorente).

Still you wake up with Dembele and Dempsey in the morning and you wouldn’t chew your own arm off would you (in a footballing sense)…

    • LLL says:

Could be, yeah. Except, ever heard of the boy who cried wolf? Or the chairman who cried last minute third party ownership issues?

      • MysteriousStranger says:

Those third party ownership issues, legitimate issues that prevent an English club from signing a player whilst allowing third party ownership to remain in place – under Premier League rules?

Cried wolf? That’s where the boy cried wolf when there was no wolf. Until there was one, and everyone ignored him. But Moutinho is owned by a third party, isn’t he? Papers were submitted, and extension was granted. The issue was not resolved. Not helped by leaving it to the last minute, of course. IMO it would make sense to agree a fee earlier (perhaps a slightly higher one), and get the deal done in plenty of time. I’ve criticised Levy for this before.

But it’s hardly a cry wolf scenario is it? Nobody “cried third party” and weren’t believed over and over until it became apparent there was a third party and it was too late? Nobody was dismissing the presence of the third party, were they? You may want to give up on the analogies.

There is no restriction in Russia, which is why Hulk went to Zenit without any problems, because Porto sold their share and the third party owners were able to retain theirs – under Russian League rules.

        • LLL says:

          You again?

My, what a long response to a casual, jokey remark.

          Well, alright then!

But Moutinho is owned by a third party, isn’t he?

          No idea really.

But it’s hardly a cry wolf scenario is it? Nobody “cried third party” and weren’t believed over and over until it became apparent there was a third party and it was too late? Nobody was dismissing the presence of the third party, were they? You may want to give up on the analogies.

You are taking this a little too seriously I feel, not sure why. My comment was merely alluding to the collective failed / close but no cigar / phantom signings of past transfer windows. There is often some excuse or another, like Redknapp saying Levy was bidding for Aguero, Tevez etc, but we couldn’t afford the wages for example (why bid at all in that case?). So if the excuse is ‘third party complications’ this time, my response is basically, ‘Even if there is, I don’t care’. Not quite ‘boy who cried wolf’ but I’m sure you’re sharp enough to get the gist.

As posted before, there was a journo with the LES who printed a load of lies about Levy and ENIC,Levy then got into a battle of words and if you recollect had a stand up row, almost punch-up with him.
Eventually Levy lost patience, and barred him from the Lane.
My theory is that all the guttersnipes are in the same club and you attack one, you attack them all. Nothing tangible can be gained, but it can make a person’s life unbearable all the same.

      • essexian76 says:

@ Just an observation on an earlier post.
You thought many on here as being obsessed by conspiratorial issues, yet today’s revelations, prove that newspapers, government and the police, have all conspired over 2 decades to smear and corrupt the events at Hillsborough.
I know the two aren’t remotely linked, but it also goes to show, that if a newspaper wants to begin a myth, most of the reading public will believe it, rather than research the truth for themselves!

        • essexian76 says:

@LLL (in peace Bro), that was meant to say

        • LLL says:

          @essexian

For sure, they will bury stuff and contort things, and agenda’s can exist, and today’s revelations are of course disturbing.

I just don’t buy into there being an ‘agenda’ against Spurs is all. First off, can’t see anything they’d hope to achieve there. I know you did say it wasn’t linked.

And peace be with you too Mister!

        • Jerkinmahjurgen says:

Newspapers and TV have always been, and will always be, propaganda.
