Good morning.
Music to my ears. The boss wants to play in the Europa. By play, I mean he wants to field a proper team and restore some pride in those taking the field in our shirt for these matches.
The last gentleman in charge opted for what I would call a divisive approach. On one side of the dressing room sat the first teamers who were played every league game until they dropped. On the other side sat the ones he wasn’t talking to and the kids. The latter category played in the Europa and they – through little fault of their own – in the main served up some rather unmemorable football.
What we need to brace ourselves for here is squad rotation. Which is an intrinsically good thing. Look I understand; if something’s not broke you don’t fix it, but you can’t treat modern players like the boys from the 60’s and 70’s and run them into the mud. They are different horses these days. Once warhorses, now (on a good day) Group 1 racehorses.
“This competition is very important. It’s a tough competition, you have to play 15 games before you reach the final, so it’s hard and strenuous and the best teams out of the Champions League are playing.
“It gives access to the European Super Cup and, for me, I always thought it was a prestigious competition and it should be promoted like that because after the Cup Winners’ Cup disappeared, it is not only about the Champions League.
“If we can win a trophy, that represents a lot for Tottenham Hotspur’s history as well and would be something really special.”
It’s great to see us taking every competition seriously.
No irony today? 8O
Pure genius the previous article; of course helped along by some morons!
Strictly grown ups today :daumen:
Probably :shifty:
Can we do it again soon though please, it was like a good book, could not put it down!!
On a Spurs note, really hope AVB plays Dawson, the guy needs to be given a break, who knows, he could well show he can adapt to AVB’s passing philosophy.
Cannot wait for tomorrow, hope there is a 70 page dossier sent to HR before it begins.
Thursday? :)
I believe the PowerPoint is nearly ready and how does red knapp know what a power point is or was that ghost written the same we were ghost managed at end of last season
I like the look of Naughton. Maybe when BAE comes back he can teach Walker a thing or two on the right.
In the first season HR was in charge He had no choice. Getting us out of the poo and up the Prem was top priority.
However, in following seasons there should have been more emphasis on the EL. We all know what a fantastic tradition we had in Europe only for it to be tarnished in our approach. Didnt we lose to some crappy rssian side who eventualy won it?
And, am I correct in saying the winners of the EL get entry into the CL qualifiers for the following season? If so,a great incentive to win it.
not sure, unless its new this year, should be CL proper, champons league and all that
unfortunately there is no champions league qualification for the europa league – if there was i think that competition would be taken very seriously by a lot of clubs
I have never quite got why there isn’t a CL place on offer for the winner… It really shits me. Lets face it if they took a qualifying place away from Scotland, who would notice?
Ropey League and FA cup winners should both qualify for the next year’s Champs League.
One reason could be that there is a limit on the number of teams eligible from each country in the CL. If we won the Europa that would mean qualification for 5 English teams next season, which would simply not be allowed by the authorities. Just saying.
Now you`ve got me dreaming. Imagine if there was a CL place up for grabs,we won the EL and l`arse finshed 4th in the league. How sweet would that be! HH start a petition!
Is it possible that AVB is rating the Europa higher than the FA Cup?
I might be a little concerned if he has Bale, Dembele, Lennon and Walker starting. We have just had two seasons where our key players faded at the end of the season due to being overworked, and they weren’t being played in the Europa.
This is the XI I think could score a bunch of goals and would love to see against Lazio (with Bale/Lennon avail in case we need a late goal):
Fredericks-Caulker-Vert-Naughton
Townsend-Hudd-Livermore-Dempsey
Falque/Carroll (preferably Sigg, who shouldnt be in regular XI)
Ade
Lazio are a proper team, mate and I think they’d rip your XI there into wedding confetti while they were waiting for their post match calzones to arrive.
and Lazio will play their first XI or the kids and coventry’s?
the kids and coventry’s?
:-D
and Fredericks is out on loan aswell.
Sorry about the typo old chap, bit dixsletic with my fingers! Your imagery of the dressing room reminds me of the old school gymn changing rooms, the elite athletes and such like, and on the other side the miserbale skivers, lacking moral fibre and shirts (playing in skins of course), or a green bib if they were lucky. (and crap trainers). Ah, the good old days of being beaten by the games teachers.
