Good evening.

Well done,I say. Well done for sabotaging what AVB is all about. Well done for thinking that being on what, £20k, £30k, £40k actually impresses anyone?! Let me my darlings tell you… You no mark schmucks you are loathed. Hated. You wear our bloody shirt and the only time you sweat is when your salary is at threat.

Well done for summoning up the spirit of that preseason in the Republic Of Ireland under Martin Jol. You must recall that one, eh, Tommy? The game against St Pats? The manager of the Radisson that refused you ‘more drink!’ that night as you ran about the hotel younger players thinking you were really cool, the night before the game chasing bottles of wine…?

I’m not happy and I will be ‘having a look.’

It was very lacklustre but I’d have to put it down to the players rather than the manager. No manager tells their team to “just knock it about lads, you’ll be fine…” Passing was awful, tempo was poor. I think Huddlestone did okay to be honest (mainly first half) as compared to the rest of the team – not one of the lowest performers last night. Dawson isn’t up to it, the wingers and Defoe were very poor, Walker very sloppy (again!). As someone else said, I’m not sure what Dempsey and Sigurdsson are meant to be doing in this formation – do they even know?? Hurry back Adebayor – we need a striker who brings others into the game.

Most of the comments here knocking the players (rightly so) they looked very lazy. But why was this so unexpected?? Apart from 20 minutes against Man U, we have looked shite so far this season. We looked OK against Lazio because they defended for 90minutes. Our system is set up to defend and catch on the counter, WE ARE SPURS…WE ATTACK and are usually crap at defending. Defoe cannot hold the ball up white is imperative for this system to work.
Shooting out the blocks, scoring a goal and sitting back for the rest of the match will only end in disaster!
The quicker we can get Ade up to fitness and in the team the better I think. We have been lucky so far this season, and dare I say it, lucky to draw with West Brom, Norwich…lucky to win against QPR and dont get me started on Man U.
Although for me Friedal has made some world class saves, I would like to see Lloris given a run, his general confidence and distribution impresses me and this can only be good for the defence.

Agreed on Ade. Would you play him WITH Defoe and sacrifice Dempsey? Or on his own instead of Defoe? Kind of wish we’d had Berbatov back – a master at holding the ball up and bringing in other players. Too late for that now though…

    Did we win?

AVB wanted to make a statement on the Europa League… that’s its an important competition which he wants to win ( again ) … but he overdid it by fielding almost the same team that played United.

Maybe with more fringe players who would have been more motivated to prove their worth, and fresher legged, we would have had more zest.

Looked like most of the players were on go-slow reserving their energies for Sunday.

Could be that AVB is using all available games at this initial start of the season to get this new team to gel together… but other than that it was a big misfire yesterday, as now most of them will be playing on Sunday with yesterday’s game in their legs.
