Good afternoon.

No chalkboard today as it’s a lot of work to say ‘Can you play Hugo and Ade, please?’ My suspicion is that the boss won’t but come what may I really do hope that he is quicker to make alterations than in the last few outings.

Bale playing on the left was dominant against Norwich and nothing here suggests to me why he would not want to repeat that today. The man I ‘d like most to step up should he feature is Siggardson. Gylfi has been a bit of a lost soul of late and I’m convinced there is moreĀ  to him than this.

The injury situation is grim. We’re missing the wit and craft in the middle of the pitch that should ignite the rest of the team. Instead we have Huddlestone firing beautiful passes whilst acting like he’s wearing an invisible wheel clamp. Livermore needs screaming at, cuddling …something to encourage him to show some character.

I’ll be backing a win. But I fear a 1-1 draw. The Lane crowd need to live up to the outstanding performance of our support at Carrow Road and dare I say it Arsenal’s mob at Reading. That is how you cheer your side on. Not by wandering around telling anyone who’ll listen how much your season ticket cost you.

Might as well replace this team with our NextGen team. At least, they can run round a bit

Can someone tell me how AVB is improving our style of play,or what system we are playing.I cannot make head or tail of this s**t?

    • Astro Spur says:

Its a very complex system you see, where at first we try to lull or bore the opposition into falling asleep on the pitch and allowing us to simply walk the ball into the net. If this doesn’t work then plan B consists of crossing the ball from all angles into the opposition box when we have nobody up there, this will cause confusion in the opposition teams defence and allow us to take advantage. If all else fails we throw caution to the wind and try to play normally for the last 15 minutes, this will hopefully shake up the opposition unshure of what our tactics are and again allow us to take advantage. Very very complex you see!!! :shifty:

Perhaps instead of swearing all over the place you might ask, ‘Can anyone explain that which I cannot?’

  • onedavemackay says:

We have lost 2 big players In Mod and VDV and 2 others were missing today (Scott and Moussa) and we do not have alternatives of the same class.

Why anyone thinks Adebayor should not start every match is beyond me.

However, good to see young Tom brought on that is one thing Andre got right today

    • jfdit says:

what is really bugging me is the fact AVB cannot see that our players are really only any good for a 4-4-2 style of play especially at home. The phrase square pegs into round holes comes to mind.

His tactics actually worked quite well for the away games and we’ve played well in spells with the one up front but our play at the lane has been shocking. What is the point of having two wingers pinging crosses into the box with just JD in there?

  • Gallas' Groin says:

In hindsight, Ade should have come on when Sandro was forced off early.

  • nobby nobbs says:

Well we see how it all pans out but so far a number of or summer purchses have been shite, often a hindrance when they are on the park.
Who was responsible for the purchases ?
How manty managers before levy goes ?
Are we going doing an Arsenal making money for the board coz lets get it straight Bale Dembele Sandro aint sticking around for shite like this
Before all the self righteous anti conspiracy get down my throat.. the performance today means I can write what i fucken like. We were shite clueless.

    • jfdit says:

levy ain’t going anywhere unless some maniac pops into the lane with 400 million burning a hole in his pocket

realistically if AVB goes what top manager would want the job, ‘arry has set the bar quite high with two 4th’s and a 5th, our squad is now weaker with teams around us much stronger so a massive challenge to match his acheivements

he was right when he said ‘they’ve never had it so good’ wasn’t he?

      • MysteriousStranger says:

Do you think it would be much different if it was Modric instead of Dembele that was out for an extended period of time? In all honesty?

I doubt it myself. Our squad is incomplete, and we’re suffering under the combined weight of both injuries and unrealistic expectations IMHO.

        • jfdit says:

injuries are part of the game, that’s why you have squads, we’ve thinned ours out dramatically and not replaced key players

what would be realistic expectations for AVB this season?

        • Harry Hotspur says:

Lose the IMHO this isn’t some forum.

        • essexian76 says:

We lost Modric with a broken leg for an extended period- Yet I seem to recall us qualifying for the CL the in same season,we also lost Lennon for a long period in the same season, when Bentley stood in for him!

        • MysteriousStranger says:

Wow, it’s only an abbreviation. To quickly convey “in my honest opinion” as opposed to making it a carte blanche “this is how it is and I don’t care for yours” type assertion.

Please forgive me for using it in the same way as people use AVB to convey you are talking about Andre Villas Boas. It’s quicker. As VdV is easier than typing out Van der Vaart.

Obviously I should have just used “in my honest opinion” to save you from lashing out over what I would have thought to be nothing particularly offensive, and to save me from dignifying your remark with a response.

Mind if I use an emoticon? Often found on forums too.

          :shocked2:

          • Harry Hotspur says:

            You over sensitive lunatic fuck!
I said that as I think you routinely speak complete sense and think IMHO is a beneath you.

Your opinion isn’t a humble thing. It’s very much informed.

        • MysteriousStranger says:

Very true essexian, out for 3 or 4 months wasn’t it?

We could spend all day comparing squads at that time to now – that season Huddlestone (pre injuries) was a main contributor, and we additionally had a deeper squad and set of striker options.

I never thought I’d say it but we might even have been better off at present with ***** with us and not at Forest.

        • MysteriousStranger says:

Please, just the “lunatic fuck” H! :freu

        • essexian76 says:

That wasn’t a dig MS=it was just pointing out that those ‘rubbish’ players we had, filled a gap admirably during our mini crisis that season, remembering of course that Dawson was also missing for long periods as well-which shows the influence our one legged captain held-and a bit of self belief can instil by convincing average players into delusions of grandeur and understanding footbaling basics. Tactics are all well and good=provided the player under instruction can understand them in the first place?

        • MysteriousStranger says:

I didn’t think it was, essexian.

And I recall King being out for extended periods, and Bassong was partnering Daws for a fair amount.

But right now there seems to be no-one to replace any number of players who have gone down with injuries, all around the same time, whilst we lost Modders in the early part of the season, Lennon late on in the season.

I really do think we probably had a deeper squad and less injuries all piled on top of one another back then compared to now.

        • essexian76 says:

I’ve always believed in footballing simplicity-win the battles in midfield and more often than not you’ll win more wars than you’ll lose. You win those by out-grafting the opposition-it’s really not rocket science or even particularly insightful-It is however effective-which is why we’re suffering right now, we’ve no engine and basically running on empty-fuck the Europa League-as I suggested back in August-we’re up against it in PL terms and these poxy games are bleeding us dry

        • nobby nobbs says:

I felt effort was an issue for us today, that isn’t acceptable.
