Liverpool and Chelsea are both reportedly plotting a move to sign FC Midtjylland centre-back Lee Han-beom this summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old South Korean defender began his youth career at Seil Middle School before progressing through Boin High School in his home country.
Lee made the step up to senior football by signing for FC Seoul in 2021, where his performances in K League 1 caught the attention of European scouts.
FC Midtjylland were sufficiently impressed to bring him to Denmark a couple of years later, and he has thrived at the MCH Arena ever since.
During his time in the Danish Superliga, Lee has won the league title and a major domestic cup competition, establishing himself as one of the division’s standout defenders.
He contributed four goals and four assists across 50 appearances last season while helping his side keep 14 clean sheets throughout the campaign.
His performances have earned him a regular starting berth in the South Korean national team, and he played a key role as his country defeated Czechia 2-1 in their World Cup 2026 opener.
TEAMtalk report that Liverpool have been closely monitoring Lee’s development in recent months and are ready to make a concrete approach in the coming weeks.
The report notes that Liverpool’s scouts have been attracted not only by his defensive qualities but also his composure in possession, physical presence, and ability to adapt to different tactical systems.
However, Liverpool face significant competition from Chelsea, Leeds United, Brighton and Hove Albion, and Newcastle United in the race for his signature.
European heavyweights including Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Napoli, AS Monaco, and Olympique Lyonnais are also reportedly monitoring the 6ft 3in defender’s situation.
With Lee’s contract at Midtjylland set to expire at the end of next season, the Danish club may look to sell this summer rather than risk losing him on a free transfer.
The technically gifted right-footed centre-back can also provide cover at right-back, adding further versatility that will appeal to clubs across Europe’s top divisions.
Still only 23 and yet to reach his peak, Lee represents a potentially shrewd long-term investment for whichever club ultimately wins the race for his services.
