Arsenal’s Wet Sellotape

Arsenal are staring into an abyss.

Spurs have been amongst the worst offenders in recent times for being goaded off the coach, made to put their kit on and then shoved out onto a field that you’d think twice about running an ‘orse out on.

But last night Arsenal looked lost. Prior to the kick off, all the talk had been about ten nil scorelines and the fact that Jewel didn’t want to put his name to what had carnage written all over it.

The reality was somewhat different. Arsenal gave it a good go to start off with, but even they lost interest in their interminable passing to no purpose after about 25minutes . On my telly screen that little box popped up. Ipswich had actually made twice as many attempts. Taking the ball to the Ipswich penalty area and then passing it to no one doesn’t constitute an attempt.

Ipswich were unspectacular. All the cliches you like. Workmanlike, committed, clunky…With the exception of Conor Wickham.

This was one game I wished Alan Smith was commentating on. After listening to him gush on and on and on about Jack Wilshire’s every breath it would have been fascinating to hear how he would have described the anonymous kid in contrast to the rough but exciting diamond that is Wickham.

The reason that Arsenal are in trouble isn’t just because they got beat by some yokels on a grizzly Wednesday night. It’s the stench of disinterest coming from too many of their players. I used to work with a guy who had a great little phrase for when a ‘co-worker’ had lost interest in the job just before going on holiday, ‘Head’s in his suitcase’.

Never seen a team with so many players with their minds elsewhere. The worst offender is Downsy Arshavin. €25M and he’s barely going through the motions. And they said we bought the wrong Russian.

The return game at the Emptycrates will be matter we are told. I’d like to know how so. It’s clear that since that coward Royston Keane legged it, Jewel has at least given his limited options some shape. Arsenal have failed to beat anyone this season that ran at them. If City didn’t have an Italian manager a dull draw could have been an emphatic win.

Why abyss? Why are they suddenly unstuck? What do you know? I know what players who don’t really care look like. Arsene is too stubborn to dip into that c.£50M operating profit and make the overdue changes. His squad isn’t up to the task. You work it out.

When do they play Barca?

There is no guarantee that moving to Stratford will even keep us in the CL.

All wealthy owners want their clubs in the CL but there are only 4 places. Besides the current top five there are several other clubs who have such aspirations and some like QPR (don’t laugh) are as wealthy as the Citeh mob.

On top of that how many really good managers are there ? You can buy the best players in the world but if the manager isn’t a Fergie or Morinho you’ll still win nowt. Ask Real Madrid.

This guy Lammy really is a tosser, but he’s a politician which is what comes up if you google “wanker”. Nonetheless someone should come out from the club and slamdunk this twat hard and fast.

I think the club, as would we all, much rather stay, but they are refusing to be held to ransom by local authority thugs and rightly so. THFC are, as far as I can tell, not being unreasonable in their requests of authorities and are likely already pay more than their fair share in taxes, rates, levies etc, for walking-on-the-cracks-in-the-pavement type council rules and regs but are still offering a massive developmental boost to the whole area.

rather than embrace the project and work with us, the club is being stiffed by people who think they can exploit our growth and development. In any other situation you’d front up and say “go f*ck yourselves!”, which exactly what DL is doing and fair play to him. I mean….what’s the alternative? We go cap in hand, ankle our strides and ask just how much grease they want before butt-f*cking us? How much integrity are we prepared to lose for a post code?

For all the romance of past glories, the realities are that to be successful you need a proper stadium, not just for the die hards fans who are able to go to games, but also for all those who can’t: there are fans who live all over the world. Do we advocate that only locals count? The people who attend, even if we get 60,000, is a small fraction of the fan base: the brand is not just local but national and international.

Most fans don’t really care because WHL is a camelot type place they will never ever see. But what opinions count? Do we have two classes of fans, those who front up each week and those who watch the telly or internet in Singapore, HK, US, Oz and NZ? What then, do we identify our status on blogs and accept our opinions on issues count less than those who trudge along to the ground every fortnight?

Wake up, we have two ways to go: forward or backward there’s no standing still. If we do not develop THFC we will of a certainty simply be waiting in a line to join the group of clubs who will be feeder clubs, forever struggling for the security of mid table anonimity.

It has been said by the club that the argument as it is, is being waged entirely by opponents of any move and that the club’s views, plans, challenges and solutions have not even been aired by the club. That’s a pretty fair call imo, maybe we should check to see if it’s a witch before we burn it?
