Word on the street is that the player will either go to Olympique Marseille or rock up at The Lane when his contract expires in June.

Oscar Wendt is 25 years of age and a left back and we have had people watching him very recently I am assured.

Not the stuff to spark school hysterics as a solution to our Jerry Cottle striker situation. But if we did land him it would certainly be one of those intelligent, shoring up the squad for campaigns on many fronts type signings.

And at the rate we’re gifting penalties these days, it’s not as though we have a surfeit of defenders.

Don’t think football is the number one guide to our transfer policy. Spurs try to collect good players and pay under the odds for them whether the position is weak or not. It does well on the balance sheet and usually we have a reasonably strong squad as a result. The weakness is that we ignore clear gaps in the squad so the squad can be strong but unbalanced at the same time. Today for example our midfield is from Harrods and the strikers are from Asda. Likely to continue that way too.

Why keep a young Scott Parker when we can have an old one in the summer? :pinch:

I don’t think we’ve sold him yet… Although I would think that come the summer he’ll be off. A shame really as he’s great cover but you just wouldn’t drop any of the current crop to put him in if they were all fit… Especially if Sandro keeps improving as he is.

He didn’t do himself any favours though with his TV comments during the Pompey semi-final.

Well said AS. That’s the main problem for Spurs last decades and the only reason why the club, although it is one of the 20 bigger spending clubs of the world, is the ONLY one among them that didn’t succeeded to win any domestic or international championship all that time. Its transfer policy isn’t based on a proper programming to win a championship but how to keep the books well balanced.

    • Astromesmo says:

Mmmm, wouldn’t necessarily agree with that. Well, apart from not winning a championship as we haven’t, but if it was all about balancing the books I don’t see where the logic of signing Rebrov, Pav, Korsten, Rocha, Postiga, Bentley, Bent et al fits in.

Even with Bale & Modders, there was no guarantee of them eventually being worth more than they were bought for.

With hindsight, you can look at any signing where the player has moved on for a profit (Like Berba) and say that they were only bought to be sold, but if Red Nose hadn’t come stalking via the News of the Screws, I don’t think we would have sold him… So the argument falls down.

You’re also forgetting that the top 20 list includes Newcastle (last title 1927) & Schalke (1958), so we’re not the only club in the top 20 not to have won a title. Citeh’s last win was 1967/8, so not much better, Roma have only won the scudetto twice since the war and Lyon had no wins at all until 2002.

I also think comparing the competitive nature of the EPL to say Ligue 1 in France is a little disingenuous.

    Oscar Wendt.

As long as this fella isn’t his Dad. We already have one full back who’s fond of the drink.
