Close implies some class of neck and neck competition. This isn’t close. This is an asthmatic with a bag over his head lurching towards ‘some’ noise hoping for a respite, a kind word, a chair, a glass of water.
I fundamentally doubt Arry’s nouse to steer us through the 18 games of the Europa. I think he’d find playing our first squad in it irresistible. If we did qualify then the side entered ought be comprised of O’Hara, PSB, Hutton, Dos Santos, Jenas and such. As I mentioned here the other day, this might even make one or two of them look more appealing when it comes to flogging ’em off.
We are in for a long summer my friends. And the few satisfying moments of the season will be meager rations when the stories come stealing in. Bale’s stock has fallen of late due to his inability to replicate that hat trick in every game since that game and so this might just insulate us against real threats and just produce random piffle about him being Barcelona’s number one target.
So what of tonight? Well it’s all about hoping we perform. Maxi scored three last night and yet another side in the ascendancy spanked a weakling. We have failed to do this to anyone all season. Defoe scored twice in a game once and that was just the once and aside from that he like all our other strikers has been a virtual no show.
City are uninspiring fare. We really shouldn’t fear them . We are more than capable of beating them. But should we not then it’ll be a salutary business to compare our performance against them at the beginning of the season with this one.
I’m having 5/2 the draw as it represents value. How depressing.

I would love to know the conversations that took place regarding a striker last summer and January… Suarez, ‘nah nothing but a two bit chancer’ …..just imagine what wouldve been had we got him in the first 2 weeks of January.
suarez is very good no doubt but he plays as a 2nd stiker, not as a front man. We already have that player is VDV so for the price he was I can totally understand why we didnt buy him. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but no blame can be put on the club for this
When he’s not playing VDV on the right wing when theres a fit Lennon to play there you mean? We needed someone who scores goals, Suarez scores goals. Bale wasnt a left winger until he was put there. He’s given Liverpool the spark they were lacking. Well done to them too for having the balls to sign him. Wish our lot had the brass to say ‘thats a good player, i’ll live by my judgment, heres the cash’ Instead of looking around for bargains that they can slide out the door if they dont work out and not be criticized for..
That player we already have, is that much older, that much more susceptible to injury. Nothing like building for the future. You seen our strikers? Not that good, and getting old.

I agree. 5/2 odds for the draw is fantastic bearing in mind neither team will be that bothered about picking up a point tonight. We blew it in January when Harry didn’t fancy Suarez and would stump up the cash for Caroll. What a shame as they would have transformed our season. Never mind..we have next season to look forward to with a few has beans that harry is going to bring in!!! Get rid of Harry now before it is too late and bring in Ancellotti.
We have lost our chances to qualify, so I’d like to tell Harry to concentrate on attacking. If Man City do break our makeshift defence must do their best.
