Purgatory

Manchester City away then.

According to some top ranking statisticians a few harrowing facts have emerged today. Tottingham have drawn their last 23 games and Mick McCarthy’s 11 year old niece Kylie, has scored more goals for her school netball team than Pav, Defoe and 3MP combined.

Going into this game is like waiting on welcome but extremely unlikely news. Ben Shepherd sound remotely convincing when talking about football,  your missus telling you that left the bathroom looking emaculate, a lottery win.

This entire Premiership has been below par of course. Manchester United will win the Championship based upon being significantly less profligate than anyone else. Especially Arsenal. To a lesser extent Cheatski. The remaining European places will be scrambled for by those who can at least fake momentum and roll over the finish line.

Spurs look inept and unlikely to snatch even 5th spot. Cue the stock rant about all the points dropped long before we got here. I refuse to indulge anyone telling me it will be close. Close implies some class of neck and neck competition. This isn’t close. This is an asthmatic with a bag over his head lurching towards ‘some’ noise hoping for a respite, a kind word, a chair, a glass of water.

I fundamentally doubt Arry’s nouse to steer us through the 18 games of the Europa. I think he’d find playing our first squad in it irresistible. If we did qualify then the side entered ought be comprised of O’Hara, PSB, Hutton, Dos Santos, Jenas and such. As I mentioned here the other day, this might even make one or two of them look more appealing when it comes to flogging ’em off.

We are in for a long summer my friends. And the few satisfying moments of the season will be meager rations when the stories come stealing in. Modders in exchange for Berbatov and cash would be my favourite. Bale’s stock has fallen of late due to his inability to replicate that hat trick in every game since that game and so this might just insulate us against real threats and just produce random piffle about him being Barcelona’s number one target.

So what of tonight? Well it’s all about hoping we perform. Maxi scored three last night and yet another side in the ascendancy spanked a weakling. We have failed to do this to anyone all season. Defoe scored twice in a game once and that was just the once and aside from that he like all our other strikers has been a virtual no show.

City are uninspiring fare. We really shouldn’t fear them . We are more than capable of beating them. But should we not then it’ll be a salutary business to compare our performance against them at the beginning of the season with this one.

I’m having 5/2 the draw as it represents value. How depressing.

Sorry to be the bearer of potentially bad news but I received a text tonight from my nephew who says we may be in line to win the barclay’s fair play league (and with it a place in the Europa qualifying round next year). I can’t confirm it because the Barclay’s Fair Play standings on the internet are weeks out of date (it has us level with Fulham during April). So, we may end up 6th and have an extra couple of qualifying matches. Sh*te.

Oh dear. Just when I thought we were safe from that rubbish

so I say lets play those mothers and go for the record amount of reds in a european match.

as they said in Hot Fuzz…….

“if you wanna be a big cop in a small town, fuck off down the model village !”

One final thought- the things that has been bugging me most in 2011 is that we look like a bad Arsenal. I dont like watching football that is all foreplay with no Howzat moment. It just leaves me anxious and combustable.

We can pass the ball around all day long- so long as it is outside the opposition area. Our strikers are probably to blame. You would hope that the manager could get one of 4 strikers (if you include VdV) on a bloody goal streak given what the supply is.

    • onedavemackay says:

That’s an interesting point and comes back to the fact that our strikers can’t strike. It also reminds me that we have got more points off the toxic four in the last two years than most of the last twenty.

      Is that not progress ?

5 points from 8 fixtures against Wham, Bpool, Wbrom and Wigan
        Is that progress?

On the strength of last season and the first half of this – and in the spirit of continuity – Redknapp, begrudgingly, deserves another shot at it next season.
However, worryingly, he does look increasingly clueless and unable to turn it around.

“Football is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom”

Football is about winning I don’t care what anyone says do it with flair and precision but overall DO IT too easy to accept a loss at this level equals complacency and as my old PE Teacher used to say ” Complacency is a killer “

surely some fans want to go on a european tour even if its a ropa dopa tour, its fun isn’t it

and 1 win in 10 league games is a bit of a shocker we have a very good squad and its under perfoming right now unless i’m missing something

  • Light Heart Wayne says:

Based on the fact that we all love to watch our team play, Thursday, Christmas day, any day that ends in ‘y’, ropy league would be nice.

Winning it would be even nicerer.

But the fact you have to play 73 fixtures to get to the interesting bit takes some of the niceness out of it, particularly if you sit mid-table because of it.

  • Wowsers says:

It’s his bloody attitude. He keeps saying it is only footbal, spurs shouldn’t expect to get top 4, he loves so and so’s team/stadium/manager

People pay huge percentages of their disposable income to go and watch the team they love and support play. They have no option or changing team or not caring. They can’t just swap teams like a manager.

This is a lifelong relationship of passion and finance.

Yet our club has a manager who continually shrugs his shoulders and replies “it’s only football/I got 4th/they were bottom” when we lose.

I can take losing and I can take bad streaks. What I will absolutely not accept is a manager not caring about my club as much as i do. I want to see him hurt as much as I donwhen we fail. I want to see him determined to do everything he can to make amends.

Wenger: yep it is there. Sluralix: absolutely. Mancini: undecided. Kenny: absolutely. Jose: god yes.

In Harry I see a manager who treats this as his job not his passion. Winning is not everything to him. His priorities are media respect/coverage and the England job. Spurs is a stop gap job.

That is why I want him out. Can anyone remember the pride and hurt in Jol’s voice after a match. I can.

    • Light Heart Wayne says:

He keeps whinging on about the money that Chelsea/City have spent/are going to spend, whilst at the same time constantly being outwitted by teams that have spent far less than he has.

    • kojac says:

spurs is the biggest job he has ever had

but he is a gooner he probably thinks he is always been this high

personally as an england fan i think he will be good for the top job just what we need for the media and playing in an english style over a tournament rather than getting bogged down in tactics,he knows it,we knows it the fa knows it,proper age too for the job

i think levy wants a few quid from the fa

Spot on. He’s a chancer through and through – an opportunist. Next job please.

Hughton is the man for the job – someone with some sincerity – a straight no nonsense talker. After the bar codes he deserves a crack at it.

      Redknapp OUT!

      • eastanglianspur says:

He would be a lot cheaper than Old Redders too. That would please Levy if nothing else!!
