Purgatory

Manchester City away then.

According to some top ranking statisticians a few harrowing facts have emerged today. Tottingham have drawn their last 23 games and Mick McCarthy’s 11 year old niece Kylie, has scored more goals for her school netball team than Pav, Defoe and 3MP combined.

Going into this game is like waiting on welcome but extremely unlikely news. Ben Shepherd sound remotely convincing when talking about football,  your missus telling you that left the bathroom looking emaculate, a lottery win.

This entire Premiership has been below par of course. Manchester United will win the Championship based upon being significantly less profligate than anyone else. Especially Arsenal. To a lesser extent Cheatski. The remaining European places will be scrambled for by those who can at least fake momentum and roll over the finish line.

Spurs look inept and unlikely to snatch even 5th spot. Cue the stock rant about all the points dropped long before we got here. I refuse to indulge anyone telling me it will be close. Close implies some class of neck and neck competition. This isn’t close. This is an asthmatic with a bag over his head lurching towards ‘some’ noise hoping for a respite, a kind word, a chair, a glass of water.

I fundamentally doubt Arry’s nouse to steer us through the 18 games of the Europa. I think he’d find playing our first squad in it irresistible. If we did qualify then the side entered ought be comprised of O’Hara, PSB, Hutton, Dos Santos, Jenas and such. As I mentioned here the other day, this might even make one or two of them look more appealing when it comes to flogging ’em off.

We are in for a long summer my friends. And the few satisfying moments of the season will be meager rations when the stories come stealing in. Modders in exchange for Berbatov and cash would be my favourite. Bale’s stock has fallen of late due to his inability to replicate that hat trick in every game since that game and so this might just insulate us against real threats and just produce random piffle about him being Barcelona’s number one target.

So what of tonight? Well it’s all about hoping we perform. Maxi scored three last night and yet another side in the ascendancy spanked a weakling. We have failed to do this to anyone all season. Defoe scored twice in a game once and that was just the once and aside from that he like all our other strikers has been a virtual no show.

City are uninspiring fare. We really shouldn’t fear them . We are more than capable of beating them. But should we not then it’ll be a salutary business to compare our performance against them at the beginning of the season with this one.

I’m having 5/2 the draw as it represents value. How depressing.

I HEARD THE PLAYERS HAVE REQUESTED “SUMMER HOLIDAY” BY THE YOUNG ONE BE PLAYED ON THE COACH UP TO THE BLUE MANCS TODAY

The fact is they haven’t gone by coach. I saw VDV in a petrol station in Cockfosters this morning at 10.30 and asked what he was doing there. He said he was driving up there in his X5 and that all players had the choice of doing it. No wonder we haven’t been winning recently if this their way of team bonding!!!

Maybe the first 11 up there get a starting berth?? Would explain some of the recent team selections…

Its hard to pinpoint what has gone wrong.

But all the of the following has ccontributed:

    Gomes errors

    Defensive errors

Both of the above have let teams back into games where they should have had no chance.

Sorting this out is as much as a priority as the goal scoring issue. I’d accept missing chances if we were able to defend but we concede too many chances and too many goals. It is a perceived weakness and as long as it is the opposition will always feel like they have a chance. Even at 2-0.

Goalscoring – far too many missed chances. Sometimes it is not your day, like vs WHU, but this has happened time and time again.

While VDVs inclusion has changed the dynamic, it is not his fault. I;d rather we got strikers to match VDVs style than ship out VDV. We need a drogba like player, a youthful prospect to learn from him (Wickham?) and a goalscorer to replace Pav, but offers more than what JD does. Maybe Sturridge or Benzema….crazy wishlist i know and with no CL it will be hard to attract anyone of high calibre, especially with City splashing the cash!

Well if you guys have all given up at least it will be a decent stream…

At least there is the comfort tonight that if we do lose then its out Liverpools reach too. Man City will strengthen even if they got fifth just purely with the huge vats of cash they have.
If Liverpool got it they’d be able to pull in top drawer players and that would be us truly out of contention next year.
Also on the plus side it’ll be the Gooners scrapping for 4th if City get in and with Chelski spending big again.

    I do think that Redknapps outdone himself with his latest comments though;

From pre christmas ‘Yea we can win he title this year! Why not?Lets bloody ave ittt’

To post Christmas ‘Ooo its a tough ask aint it, 4th spot? Money money money, makes the world go round. City have got it, I aint got a pot to p%$$ in. We’ll give it a good bash’

To last week ‘Now that they’re in the Champs League (They were’nt they still had 4 games to go with us on their heels) They’re gonna spend LOADSA MONEY’

To finally yesterday ‘OH they’ve made a few BLOW YA BRAINS OUT signings already guvernooor, theyve got next seasons title tied up in a jiffy bag thank ya me old mucka’

    How defeatist can you get!?
    Why turn up next year?
He’s flogging playing for Man City to any top target we may have ourselves already.

What next? Talking us into relegation?

I don’t think anyone is going to sign for Citeh because Harry said so… £130k p/w (rising to £200k with bonuses) does an awful lot of talking on its own.

Do you want to start a whip-round for elocution lessons for Harry or do you want him sacked for having an East end accent?

Or is it for trying to talk up the potential of the team or talk it down, you seem to be angry at him for both?

      • Spurfect says:

Of course player arent going to sign for them just because Harrys talked them up, however when you say we are on the verge on challenging for the title with a few choice top quality additions its not the best thing to say well actually Man City are going to win it next year so forget the first bit.
I’m of the thought that he should be given FULL backing next season to propel us further. However stupid statements which suggest there’s no point even taking the field isn’t something that’s going to inspire confidence. Its an excuse culture which you don’t want near your players.
The East End accent is purely an aid to add a comedy element to what otherwise would be quite depressing comments from a Spurs point of view.
Have a look at the pre match interviews before our games with the lower half of the league sides where he talks them up to point of saying if we dont beat them then its not our fault no games are easy. Thats not a positive mental attitude to have. The established top 4 sides EXPECT to win these games and talk about how well THEY are playing. Soemthing we seem to have forgotten how to do this season, focus on ourselves. Where as it SHOULDNT effect the players it sets a tone of nervousness and trepidation for the home support.

Anyone that’s anything like a realist will look at what Man City are doing and have to state the obvious… By hook or by crook they are trying to buy the EPL, And doing half a job at it. As this is the last hurrah they get before they have to be sensible they could, potentially, spend over £250m in the window ahead, and that’s without the wages… You have to say honestly that it will be hard for anyone to compete against that, not just us. That’s not defeatism, it’s life & maths.

The players at WHL have had to work hard to achieve what they have and he’s given them credit at every step for that. Again, that’s just fact, not talking them down, it’s giving them credit.

Fergie saying he fully expects to pick up one point from the last two games is the first time this season he’s made any kind of statement about expecting to win a game – And with good reason. The likes of Wolves, Blackpool, Stoke, Wigan, Wet Spam and the Baggies have all had results against top sides. Harry is simply stating fact, it’s an old cliche but there are no easy games any more.

I’m glad though that Harry feels that, with a few additions, we’re capable of challenging in spite of the money and the draw of bigger grounds that other clubs have.

Blue Mancs 1 Tottinghams 0 I fear will be the result and thats being hopeful !!! Call me a pessimist I say I’m a realist!
