£22M? Mmmnn. In the shadow of the Torres ‘swoop’ it seems a bit naffin’ short on the jolly. But that was a bid apart. It came from Abramovich. Detach emotion and £22M is probably no more than £10M off the market worth.

And breathe. You do not get mental money for stellar players like Modders in the Premiership from Premiership sides. Bids that size of bid only comes in for English ‘punts’ for the future. Didn’t you get the memo?

£22m is an absolute disgrace.
If you look at Chelsea, the likes of Terry, Lampard, Drogba, Cole, Malouda, Essien….basically the core of their team, they are all getting older.
It showed last season that they were not the force they once were. There is little fresh blood in the team…Luiz, Ramires thats about it. Players like Kalou and Mikel have alwyas been fringe players. God knows what Torress will offer next season. He may be awesome, he may be a spent force!
Fact is they are vulnerable unless they continue to spend on a huge level. We cannot afford to be strengthening the likes of Chelsea. We were only 9 points behind them and although both teams had bad spells, our 1 victory in 10 games was by far the worst spell of anyone in the top 6.
£22m is an insult, designed to trun Modder’s head. I hope this is not some behind the scenes plan to get Modric to put in a transfer request. I also think that CFC recognise that others will be in for Modric, and a bidding wear may insue, so get in their first, start low and let it takes its course! If they start high, the likes of City will always offer £1m more.
