Modders Depressed – Ah, Diddums.

Good morning. Is this the calm after the storm or before it? I do like a good shipping forecast.

Reading between the lines from Arry  the  cosy chat betwixt the Croat and the Chairman rather left old Modders in a state of shock. Deflated and emotionally done in.

All I can say to that is, ‘ Ah diddums.’

He appears to have genuinely thought that this is how you do things over here. To a certain degree he was right, of course. But to attempt what he was attempting with a shade under 5 years on his contract was …well, ambitious.

Just like little Luka, I don’t understand quite how footballer’s contracts work. But I’d imagine that signing one and then saying you’ve changed your mind a few months down the line is akin to buying say a house for cash – and then tracking down the vendor 6 months later – and saying you don’t want it any more. Gone off it.

I would imagine Cheatski’s offer to triple his wages would have come as small comfort to him if he was liable to recompense Levy & Co for the remainder of the term. Ball park 233 weeks @£60k pwk = £13,980000. Ouch.

Elsewhere we have a quote from Citizen Redschnapps in relation to our old mucker PSB. Apparently he’s very much still in the mix at The Lane. Lucky us. Translated that’s nobody will accept a fiver to take him away. I’ve been accused of being conveniently forgetful about the good works that Blistering Bob did for us. And it’s true. I don’t dent it.

But the last straw for me was when he was at Celtic and was asked what his next move was and with a completely straight face he replied, ‘Oi have a contract wid Tottingham.’ With this streak of shamelessness perhaps he could get a job in Starbucks. Their always looking for people who can ask £6 for a coffee and a muffin without corpsing.

Elsewhere the ITK’s have run aground. Their finely honed attention seeking radars know we need succour for the weekend and so they can’t simply say nothing. So Leandro’s name has been regurgitated once more.

On that note, I know it’s July but don’t forget a coat this weekend, you may well need it. Oh yes, the video below is good if you like Cleese.

You know we’ve often seen the ‘greats of the game’ on TV / Radio & in the press telling us mere mortals that “to know the game you need to have played in it..” the greats such as Andy Gray, Brazil, Savage, Cundy, Townsend… the Talksport tossers… and I’m beginning to understand what they meaning. To be ‘in the game ‘ means you need to have the filter between your brain and mouth removed – the aforementioned are a case in point, plus Rooney,Bellamy, etc, and clearly over the past 4/5 montsh ‘Arry has had the filterectomy. You also need surgical removal of the part of the brain that joins “writing signature on piece of paper” to ” I have an obligation”. And it seems Modders has been away on holiday to a private clinic having the operations for both.Hopefully he also had some implants put in his arse cheeks – if he doesn’t shape up then Dan the Man needs to stand by his admirable words, and a season long stint on the bench will be in order.
The “best you’re gonna get” translates, for next season, into Keane, Crouch, Defoe and Pav up front, with Modders, Krankie, Jenas, Bentley the key four for the bench.Oh…and keep your eyes open for the following quote repeated ad nausuem thru to the transfer window next summer ” ..all we need is two or three new signings to freshen things up a bit so we can challenge for…”.
    Depressed, moi?

Confused?! I bet he’s not so confused that he’s forgot his Pin number to draw his wages today eh

Astromesmo, agree that in this day and gae it is very difficult to escape the glare and unrepentant badgering for comment from the likes of SSN. Hence why it is importnat to be able to display a little tact and street smarts. My problem with Harry yesterday is not so much that he he spoke about the Luka situation (inevetibale) but more what he said. There were a million and one alternative ways in which Redknapp could have reponded to that question and in the process, ensured that it was on its way to becoming a dead duck of a story. Instead his comments themselves became the latest story in what is becoming a tiresome campaign by the sports media.

I agree with the man in the car who drove by sky reporter outside the lodge, wish it was harry but more likely it was Levy wot said it.

I don’t see that this should have been the last straw in any way shape or form. It was a statement of fact.
He left Tottenham for Liverpool and a great many people felt let down. But the situation since has been entirely different. The only reason he’s been loaned out is for him to get playing time and for the Club to get some income for him while the manager has no intention of using him.
Some people will never forgive him for preferring Liverpool and CL football to Tottenham. Fair enough if that’s the way they feel. But nothing he has or hasn’t done since warrants criticism of his behaviour. He probably isn’t good enough for Tottenham any more (though he was no worse than the other three strikers at the Club last season), but if he proves his doubters wrong and it is to Tottenham’s advantage then all well and good in my opinion. If he were to prove his doubters wrong to someone else’s advantage, then that would be a big shame.
All in all I am grateful for Robbie Keane’s professionalism, commitment, enthusiasm and skill in Tottenham’s colours for the best part of ten years. It is ironic that his nickname is PSB, and that this is used against him, while many of those criticising him in this way also bemoan the lack of leaders in the squad. Perhaps we need more PSB’s.
By the way, the continued obsession with the Modric non-story has gone way past boring.

      He left Tottenham for Liverpool…..”

….when he also had a contract!

The problem is that when he was offered top wages from Liverpool it was not a problem to disregard the importance of his “contract wid Tottingham”. Now he faces the prospect of much lower wages, he demonstrates his loyalty ……..to the higher paying contract!

    • Harry Hotspur says:

Thank you for that. John White.

My gripe with PSB that you neatly avoid addressing is that the contract of which he so nobly spoke was with the same company, THFC had their last one hurled out the driver’s window of a Range Rover as he sped towards Anfield.

Next time I see him in a Spurs shirt, I hope he keeps the receipt from the Megastore somewhere safe.

He couldn’t routinely get into the West Ham first squad. There’s your eulogy.

      • TMWNN says:

Since Judas, contracts at Spurs are always written up more in favour of the club by ensuring we don’t miss out on a hefty transfer fee when we eventually sell.

Why on earth we put the likes of Keane and ***** on such long contracts and good money when no-one’s interested is definitely a fuck up.

    • frontwheel 2 says:

I must admit that what you have written has made me think,i don’t think he’s good enough but agree that his actions can’t be used against him.At this moment in time i think Harry is a total tosspot, can you save him him too?

  • meesterlee says:

I really don’t blame Modric for wanting to leave. He’s by far and away the best player at the lane, so no wonder he wants to make good elsewhere.

We cocked up big time last year, 4th place was easily within our reach. Had we not dropped points too easily against the poorest teams in the division or been so toothless in front of goal we’d have at least a Champs League qualifier to look forward to and a happy Modders.

If he goes, good luck to him. He’s a pleasure to watch. If he stays all the better for us.

I have to say in many respects I’d not be overly sad should Redknapp be detained at her majesties pleasure, as long as his replacement is of sufficient quality. As a motivator he can be excellent, as a tactician or strategist I suspect he lacks a bit of nous, as a promoter of youth he is dreadful.

    • Spurfect says:

If he goes, good luck to him???
Despite our failure to finish in the top four (which Modders was a contributor to) the fact is he still signed a 6 year contract without the guarantee of Champ League football. And is trying to bail out a year into it.
Id say good luck to him after this season if we fell further away from the pack, but not when he’s cutting out as soon as the challenge get a little tougher.

He should be spending the next season trying to get back in the top 4 and ‘achieve and win things with us’ as he’s stated himself many times. Just like when we were on the cusp of breaking into the top four with lasagna gate, and Carrick did the dirty and jumped ship leaving it rocking and those behind to splash around instead of powering on the next season to finally break it.

I would say that in the main I’m of this opinion, but the whole “I love Tottenham, I want to stay forever, etc” six weeks before asking for a transfer (and to Chelsea!) rubs me a bit raw.

There’s still not many footballers I’d rather watch.
