“I’d be lying if I sat here and said I wouldn’t have Joe Cole at the club.”

Can the last fan leaving The Lane please turn the light off.

I have been frowned at by some for ‘Arry Bashing.’ So it will be interesting to see how many still in the happy clapper club want to renounce their inexplicable blind faith and join the free thinking majority.

Joe Downsy Cole. Having taken some time to reflect upon Arry’s CV I’ve reached the inevitable conclusion he is a magnificent firefighter. He knows where you can buy buckets, he’s always got a mate that’ll sell you some top top water.

But when it comes to managing a side that isn’t at death’s door he is actually revealed as being incapable of seeing beyond his innate shorttermism.

The happy clappers need to take a breath and realise that I am not ignoring his good work. I’m simply refusing to ignore increasing evidence that his judgement is not sound when out of a crisis.

His spending at Tottenham has been, within the wages constraints quite free. Certainly, outside of those Clubs with billionaire backers and money launderers behind them he has been assisted with good financial support.

He brought in Crouch and Defoe, both of who effectively flat-lined. You cannot bas an argument in support of a football based upon anything other than goals. If you do, you are a Bendtner fan.

It is easy with the luxury of hindsight to say that Suarez would have been a better bet than Defoe, but is it really hindsight given he was superb at Ajax and Liverpool and Tottingham weren’t the only ones to think so? Arry likes familiar faces and boys that speak the Queen’s.

I have suspected for some time now that Modric’s success has largely been down to the player’s naturally abiility rather than any ‘mentoring’ from Arry. This explains why Kranjcar who is a very good player has not been mentored, not been improved. As with Pav who anecdotally we are told was asked to, ‘run about a bit.’

The willingness to accept the sale of Modric reveals him as fool who would throw antiques onto a fire to keep warm, rather than sell one or two and buy some bloody coal.

Pointy was damaged goods after Liverpool, but this didn’t stop Arry shipping him in without pausing for breath. Why we bought Pienaar I honestly still cannot fathom. Then there was the public courting of Scott Parker. Here is a guy that Chelsea once bought, much in the manner they bought SWP in order to prevent to anyone else doing so.

By the time Parker caught anyone’s eye again he was an aging, bustler with at best 70 minutes in the tank. And thanks to the Porn Barons an expensive player.

And so to Joe Cole. A man that got an even bigger squeeze than Pointy did from LFC as when they took him in, he wasn’t even able to make his then current sides first team.

And now we, the mighty Tottingham are officially in for him.

I could weep.

Officially? Where did you come across this?

    • Harry Hotspur says:

via Darren Lewis who was at the presser this morning.

      • Chirpy says:

Quotes somewhat different in the Indy – “We haven’t made any enquiries about him but I wouldn’t sit here and say I wouldn’t have him at the club because if I did I’d be lying.”

In any event, the last match I saw Cole play in (‘live’) at WHL was in Mar’08; we eventually drew 4-4. Joe Cole scored twice and was by far their best player, and to a man we (South Stand) sighed with relief when Grant inexplicably substituted him. Knee/cruciate injuries aside, am I missing something?

imo wld be great signing as it will make lennon work his socks off as joe colke can play on the right as well…so worth a try

Got to agree unfortunately! Man management is a great quality, but if your players have enough quality in the first place, it shouldn’t be that much of a requirement! ‘arry has served us well so far, but his tactical decisions are more than questionable!

imo wld be great for lennon as cole cld play right mid too.
and he wld definately give lennon a run for places

more importantly, I couldn’t have made that point any better my self.. radio rental manager of the lowest kind, one who inexplicably believes otherwise.. at least other managers with nothing on their cv get in where they fit in… cannot wait to see DL bring in a proper front man and I aint talking about f**** defoe, we knew (against sentiment) that he was shi* and wasn’t good enough to play with mido keane berbs…… i think dl knows rednapp is classless as well as clueless, this why rednapp has had nothing but instructions where ‘ real business’ is concerned. Milan mandaric is not the standard of our operation and Jcole completely sums up Harry.. a rag n bone man and when he leaves, what will we do with this newer varnished dead wood?!

‘Arry has always had a longer gamplan in mind i.e. England. With all due respect, Spurs are not England Lite or England Demo. Crouch is not a Champions League striker nor is Defoe. Jenas and Bentley are not Champions League midfielders.

He insists on playing them. Even at OT on MOnday night playing Defoe up front against the United back 4 as a lone striker when there is nothing about Defoe that says target man or lone striker.

He seems to like what he knows. That’s why he loves signing players he has had before. The most anticipated form of attack last year was Crouch/Defoe. Hoof it to Crouch, hope he knocks it down. Most of the time it came from Dawson on the edge of Spurs’ box taking a step to the right looking up and launching it. Any centre half worth his salt knew all he had to do was knock Crouch out of a header and the entire attack came to a halt, yet ‘Arry insisted on doing it as if maybe one manager might not have done his coaching badges. As a result Spurs couldn’t score in their last few matches.

I think the club has come to a crossroads. Levy’s sell before buy and ‘Arry’s tactical naivete have left a squad of good players and a few great players who on their day can beat anyone but take one or two out and they become utterly predictable. It might take more than one season to fix this properly.

Hmm, I might not post very often but I might have a claim to that LosLorenzo !

Anyway while I’m at it I’m in your camp HH (and have made that clear before…) in that with the present status quo we could be swimming in circles for a while…

The game Monday night was proof (if it was ever needed) that we are way short of CL capability when we are up against the regular contenders both in terms of players and Manager nous.

DL has a tight, and in my view, realist grip on the Clubs Finances and that is going to frustrate HR considerably. In many respects the control over money has meant that the tide is out and HR is clearly not wearing any trunks in my humble opinion.

Until we get the ground sorted out (better news on that today I think, whether you are a N17er or mentally set on Stratford) and our revenue stream up with the others we can only dream of competing head to head. When that happens we should be able to attract an astute, successful, man at the helm, until then….
