Reckless Rumours R Us

Good morning and welcome aboard the good ship Venus.

Having gone rummaging through all the usual and indeed unusual cyber dustbins here in just one URL is where transfer wise, we is at.

Talk of 3MP to Stoke or even Sunderland jack-knifed courtesy of  Redschnapp himself. Arry told us after the City fiasco that Pete had come to him all doe eyed wanting to know if the paper talk was true. If a striker as unproductive as he had an ounce of self respect in him, instead of bleating over gossip columns he’d have been more useful cold calling Clubs to ask about vacancies.

David Betley’s name was being mentioned in Blackburn circles, but even the chicken fetus magnates are happier to look at elsewhere, or more accurately, anywhere else. So that’s another one who’s hoovering up salary and contributing zip.

And this is the case with all the two other Family Favourites, Begbie and *****. ***** isn’t for sale. I’ll qualify that. He is, but he’s not on the ONO shelf with Bentley. He can’t be. As all these little half tales of transfers filter out, *****’ name is never mentioned.

Krankie wants to stay I’ve been told. He was sick of not getting a game and with the World’s Greatest Footballer™ Peanut injured, Arry has snatched at the chance to put him in the shop window.

And so for those self harmers still concious, but dripping profusely into the Axminster …it’s the incoming news!

Scott Parker is en route. Joe Cole is on his way like a Bat Out Of Hell – or at least a Mong Of Merseyside.

Scott Parker we know about. It’s the spirit of Bobby Moore that courses through his veins. Get ups in the morning, full English, off to the barbers, picks up some flowers for his dear old mum from Buster Edwards’ old stall and straight in for double training. Then home via Manze’s for a slap up.

Joe Cole is a mystery. Not mysterious like how the hell did the Mormon Church ever take off? Mysterious as in how come Arry thinks he’s going to play him when Jose Mourinho and Kneny Dalglish have both emphatically tossed him onto the ‘not even in the event of an emergency’ pile? Maybe that’s it, maybe should knock this football lark on the head and say he’s found ‘some plates’ in his garden.

Diarra is done. Done and dusted. Well the collective wisdom of every ITK can’t be wrong, can it? Yean I know the player has said there is no deal, but what would he know about it? Has he got an ITK badge and hundreds of slavering ten year olds hanging on his every word? No he does not. Case closed. It’s done.

And now Owen Hargreaves’ name has been thrown into the mixer. I can only image this is related to a recent injunction taken out by Michael Owen against THFC to ensure he isn’t embarrassed by having his name linked with us at 1145pm on Wednesday …again.

Another name tagged on in the last few days is that of Gary Cahill. He’s good stuff, but if we get pipped by the reluctant spender Aunty Wenger then someone at WHL wants to have a serious look at themselves.

Now if you’ll excuse me I must attend to the riggin’.

H, apologies old girl, for posting the link to another blog, but this is the best article I’ve read on the Redknapp situation.

I also aplogise if it has been posted before.

    http://oneinthehole.wordpress.com/2011/08/29/why-harry-redknapp-is-no-longer-the-manager-to-take-spurs-forward/#more-144

    • Spurlative says:

Great article. Spot on. redknob must go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • elfranklins says:

For Rednapp to go would do little for our position at the moment except make it even more difficult to progress anywhere except a fire sale of any decent players come January.

Who would you have him replaced with?

        • hotspurhartley says:

Owen Coyle, Gus Poyet, Ian Holloway, David Moyes, Simon Grayson, Paul Lambert……Stevie Wonder!!! Who cares, he needs to go now, for every day he is still here we take another step backwards…..

        • Spurlative says:

          Tony Pulis

        • Spurlative says:

put it to you this way. Imagine we swapped redknapp for pulis. Would arry be successful at Stoke?

        • spurious supporter says:

          Holloway,
FFS, let’s replace a bloke who can’t keep his mouth shut with……. a bloke who can’t keep his mouth shut.

          Pulis,
Have you seen the free flowing ‘Glory-Glory’ football that Stoke play? Leg-breakers and great throwers of the ball we have no need of, our style has a modicum of flair.

Poyet, you guys cane HR for bringing back players, and here you are suggesting we replace him with a sacked former member of the management team. Is that irony or hypocrisy?

          Moyes,
Average manager of average teams, more suited to mid-table or championship. Win % with Everton is 44%, HR’s with Spurs is 47%.

          Grayson,
Yes, Championship club Leeds are doing so much better than us, with their worst start for 14 years.

          Coyle,
Burnley played attractive football but went back down again. Coyle left them in the lurch.
Bolton are not the prettiest of sides but have made a good start to the season, that doesn’t make Coyle the Messiah.

          Lambert,
Give him a year or two and he might be ok, untried at a serious level managerially.

Sometimes I despair more about our support than I do about the team and the management. :dizzy2:

        • hotspurhartley says:

Spurious….you missed Stevie Wonder, does that mean you think he’s a possibility?

        • spurious supporter says:

          Hartley,

          The blind leading the blind?

In the kingdom of Misstra Know It All, Twitchy is king.

We have enough organ players thanks all the same. :daumen:

        • MysteriousStranger says:

          spurious,

What sets Lambert apart from many of the “contenders” is he is a proven winner. He has also proven to be a decent manager with a decent playing philosophy.

You cite Moyes winning % then HR’s “with Spurs” as comparison. Moyes has had limited if no funds to spend for years at Everton, whilst Harry’s Spurs have spent plenty, and arguably has a squad with better overall strength. You do mention Moyes’ average players, but he is limited by his club’s resources.

Can you provide HR’s with winning % stats for all his Premier League clubs, and feel free to list how much he’s spent as well whilst at all these clubs. For a balanced picture, of course. And which division all these previous clubs are playing in now as well, if you like ;-)

        • spurious supporter says:

          stranger,
I agree about Lambert, but he has been a big fish in a small pool. I’d like to see how he does in the Premiership for a season first.

I was rather generous with Moyes, quoting his career win % when the actual % with Everton is circa 41% to HR’s 47% at Spurs.

Why would I provide you with stats? you’re more than capable of finding your own. ;-)

As to the position of clubs HR used to manage, I can’t see how they’re relevant except perhaps Pompey whose demise was predominately due to their deplorable financial management( in part responsible for how many of their players returned to Spurs in lieu of payments due)

        • MysteriousStranger says:

          spurious,

I would have thought comparing Everton under Moyes to Harry’s Spurs was as relevant as comparing Moyes’ Everton to Harry’s Southampton etc.

The point being, comparing managerial records with different clubs with different budgets and different playing staff is somewhat basic and provides little in the way of assessed information.

Moyes’ record at Everton is very good, all things considered, as was his record at Preston, prior to joing Everton. Harry’s record at all his clubs, all things considered? Not so great, I would surmise, given his forays into the transfer markets, and the way the clubs and their respective finances were actually managed.

    • Harry Hotspur says:

Never have an issue with links to other sites if they’re good. That one is excellent and well worth sharing.

      • MysteriousStranger says:

I could have written it myself. Essentially I already have, just a much more intermittent and long winded, repetitive version.

        A fine read.

    • UnkleKev says:

Fantastic read — if a little troubling.

  • Fatfish says:

Also, hearing rumours of Lukaku to Stoke on loan from Cheatski.

We should be selling Modric to them for £40m + get Lukaku in on loan as part of the deal.

    • toddspur says:

Lukaka cant go out on loan this window; some dodgy rule prohibits it

    • mazzo says:

oh yes, sell to bluescum for tapping modrat, that will help wont it, and who’d be next, garreth bale, sandro, whats to stop them from tapping these players up is that what you want.

    • UnkleKev says:

The Lukaku rumour is particularly dispiriting as, if true, it would seem to indicate that Stoke are no longer looking to take the LSOP off our hands.

On a more positive note, Asrenal’s pursuit of Per Mertesacker might allow us a clear run at Gary Cahill.

If we can just secure Cahill’s signature, add a CM to the mix (Hargreaves, Parker — I don’t care; anyone to keep thngs ticking over ’til Sandro’s fit) and maybe prise Adam Johnson away from Citeh (with Silva and now Nasri ahead of him in the pecking order he might feel his future lies elsewhere) that would constitute excellent business as far as I’m concerned.

      • hotspurhartley says:

Cahill and Johnson would be excellent as would Scott Dann, Parker and Hargreaves would be unacceptable, just like Friedel (2 games – 8 goals) and Pienaar.

  • yiddo4ever says:

I know we cant compete with the likes of city, chelsea and man u for the top players but for facks sake surely we can get soem decent players in to improve on the likes of Defoe and Crouch. Went to the game on sunday and i can see why Redknapp wants a scott parker type of player..fine but not Scott Parker please!! Diarra or someone of that ilk with a few years ahead of them who will improve with the team as it grows. It was also apparent from the game that our strike force are fackin shite….we really need to ship the whole lot out and start again but with the window closing tomoz no chance.

    • LLL says:

Personally I did see a glimmer of hope when Defoe came on. He was at least busy and eager to shoot, and went pretty close with one. The VDV injury is a blessing in disguise perhaps, hopefully Adebayor and Defoe can get some games together. There is no point in having Defoe around if you aren’t going to play him in a 442. And there’s just no point in having Crouch around full stop as he doesn’t score any goals and makes the whole team play like shit.

I had dared to believe that Sunday was the last time I’d ever have to watch Crouch in our shirt. :-(

      • yiddo4ever says:

yeah im hearing you about Crouch….on the radio on the way up to the game it said he was going to Stoke…turn up to game and his in starting 11!!! Deflated or what! With regards Defoe…i know he took some shots (which eveyone else seems scared to do) but you notice how he just lashes at the ball? No composure, no placing of the ball and he never looks to pass to a team mate in better position….his positioning at times was also strange to say the least although i dont think he managed to get offside which is a first! Defoe was good years ago when he showed initial promise but has become a big time charlie and not showed his potential. Which is why none of the so called bigger clubs have ever bid for him.

        • LLL says:

I agree with you mostly, but I think out of all the strikers we have, he is the one most likely to benefit from playing in a 442 with Adebayor and most likely to start scoring some goals. Crouch will never score a lot of goals ever again. Pav is just too much of an enigma full stop. Scores some great goals but even Crouch at his most shit is not as useless as Pav at his worst.

  • rogerspurs says:

Just in from a top top source in Haringey Town Planning – all the demolition / building work at the Paxton end is for the construction of a ‘state of the art’ sports therapy centre. I’m told that there is currently a high level of unemployed physio and rehab staff in the north London area, and Boris has allocated the £8m from the ‘post riots’ contingency fund to (quote) “…enable THFC to pay market rate wages to ageing and fading former PL stars..” to provide jobs for this unused expertise. A spokeperson has said that the new ‘Darren Anderton Centre’ is due to open just after the closure of the January transfer window, which “…will allow the club to maximise its opportunites in scouting Europe for the injury prone and other suitably disabled professional footballers”.

  • Spurlative says:

So, parker, diarra, hargreaves and cole. 4 midfielders to add to our already brimming quota of average midfield men.
When does it ever end?? I think tho that diarra was the number one choice. Everything else is just in case… Its true that levy doesn’t want to spend. I think the priority now is the stadium. Hence, long term future of the club. We can get there but we should simply be aiming for top 5 or 6 instead of fooling ourselves to believe we can win the league… I fully expect modric to leave. If not, I duly expect an apology to us and his team mates. He hasn’t exactly come out recently saying that he is definitely staying. If he does stay, this could derail our season. Off on the wrong foot and all. Levy should swallow his pride now and get rid of the poison.
