What Did The Brass Polisher Say To The Barber?

I am indebted to Citizens Fatfish and Seppoyiddo for supplying some of the most excellent caption competition fodder in living memory –  Salute.

And so here is the first in a – be warned – rapid fire succession of funny bone seeking snaps.

Pictured is the happy go lucky 3MP having his Barnet done courtesy of a local man who’s premises were looted by some animals that broke free last week.

Last time I looked the old boy had £35,000 squeezed into his sky rocket courtesy in large part to the wit of Björn, Sophie and Omid at Bartle Bogarty Hegarty who kick started an online appeal to aid the uninsured 89 year old tonsorial artist. Quality work :daumen:

Anyway he’s trousered loads, crisis averted, so let’s get merciless on Pet’s boney behind. Innit.

Best caption wins The London Eye. This high profile London landmark comes complete with a nearby river and lots of buildings that scattered nearby for convenient viewing.

Your ownership pack include a large tin badge bearing the legend, ‘Do You Like My Eye?’ , some photos of the Eye and some paperwork. All entrants must be either on their lunch hour or at a loose end.

I am so tired of listening to the disaffected going on and on about what the management of our team should be doing. As if they could do any better. From what lofty heights do they impart these pearls of wisdom?
OOH, they should have done this, they should do this, I wish they’d do this. Did you learn that from your wives/girlfriends?
Constructive criticism can be just what it says; it can even be amusing. Knee jerk, oafish ranting is neither.
All my life I’ve listened to idiots vent their spleen on people who are immensely more qualified than they are. It generally goes like this: he’s an idiot for doing that(he made me do something I didn’t want to do).He doesn’t know what he’s doing(I’ve never done his job, but I bet I could do it better).
For all the damage these morons would do; I would love to put them in charge of our team for a week. They’d bleed from every orifice, and the damage would be incalculable.
Should we start a medical board? “My wife needs a hysterectomy”. “No mate, your Gynaecologist’s a cunt. You need two analgesics up front, and a distalgesic in midfield who can break up the play”.
Discussion is good; Harry/Levy is a cunt, is starting to wear thin.
If one of those silly bastards can say they have professional experience of running a football team, I will listen(as long as it’s not the-Harry is a cunt refrain). If they’re a loss adjuster, mechanic, or the Prime Minister; they simply don’t have the right to criticize, or vilify, our management’s ability. They can question, that’s they’re right. I’m not a mechanic, but next time they’re car breaks down, I’ll be happy to tell them why.
Much love(and keep buying the season tickets)
    Danny and Harry

I Have a certain amount of sympathy for what you say.

There are those amongst us, who will not give HR credit for anything, and will blame him for everything. I think that the majority of these are based on antipathy rather than personal judgement.

Regarding DL, I never cease to be amazed at the fact that our failure to sign a player is purely as a result of his parsimony, rather than a prudent decision that he was not going to risk following Portsmouth by profligacy. If we look at the January transfer window, there are those who cursed him for not signing Dzeko and or Torres, and or Carrol, and or Suarez. These four have averaged a goal a (playing) month since Jan. To those who would still make this point, I would point out that we already have three “goal a month strikers” whose combined cost was less that the cost of Torres.

I sincerely believe that if we had bought two of those (notwithstanding the prices that were paid for these WUNDERKINDEN, an they performed the curmudgeons amongst us would have said that we bought the wrong two.

Regarding HR’s latest pronouncements, I have seen plenty of people on this and other forums say that if Modric wants out, he should be allowed to go, because he will only disrupt the team. If they are right, then notwithstanding the money we would get for him, HR must also be right (this is not my opinion).

My own personal opinion, in case anyone wants to know where I stand is that DL has done a good job in getting us punching well above our weight. HR I have my doubts about, and I deplore his calling us idiots and his sarcasm towards us, but also believe that he deserves some of the credit for having turned around our fortunes.

Trying to be objective though, I question where these “three or four” players (assumed average cost of £10 mill) are. These are players we can easily afford today, so why are we not snapping them up? Looking at the current transfer window, IMHO, I don’t see that there have been “3 or 4” quality players transferred throughout the whole window. Most that are they would have been snapped up by now. Adebayor is possibly one, but clearly he brings baggage with him. Even as a loan player, he may be a liability.

In light of This who is going to stick up for him now?

He is directly undermining Levy just because he wants to get his hands on the 30m and spunk it on “3 or 4 players”. Sorry Harry, but losing Modric and swapping him for Scott Parker, Joe Cole, Bobby Zamora and Phil Neville will NOT make for a better squad. Jesus Christ. Meanwhile, we keep the likes of Bentley and the rest of them, and keep paying their wages. Next Summer we still have a bunch of players nobody wants to buy along with some new ones to add to the pile, and Harry does one to manage England.

No Thanks. Seriously fucked off with this shit now. Going to bed! GOOD NIGHT!

It’s no secret I am not keen on Harry Redknapp, and I think while he may have a point regarding Modric, there are many issues to selling him.

Firstly, who do we bring in when we sell him? Secondly, who should be bringing in these new players – the current manager, or the next one?

I can see an argument that would agree with selling Modric (after all, he’s not wanting to play for us – which is always dismaying) to bring in perhaps Granero/Ilicic etc. (if these players would come to us) and use the remaining funds to improve in other parts of the pitch – there could always be someone such as Kalou coming our way in return from Chelsea too. But is Harry the right man to identify these players, suggest to Levy who he would like to replace Modric? His time is likely limited at our club. Plus, we still need to shift some deadweight – the Bentley to Fulham reports were dismissed by Jol earlier – and nothing else seems to be moving fast in that regard.

As Levy has reiterated the club’s stance to keep Modric, Redknapp has on a few occasions made noises endorsing the idea we sell the ratboy to his nephew’s club. The reports that Levy and Redknapp don’t see eye to eye aren’t likely to go away as he has once more shot his mouth off contradicting Levy’s (public) view, and many fans dislike Redknapp for his constant verbal diarrohea. Levy may well be wise to stick to his guns, keep Modric for one more season, and by the time Harry’s gone, free up the funds then.

I’m following Norman Giller on twitter, and he laboured the point that Harry has been successful at the club, yet many of us do not like him. He suggested we should get behind him and support him. I respectfully disagree with his view, as I do not see a team going 3-0 down vs Young Boys, and 4-0 down twice in the Champions League, and in the FA Cup as being all that successful. And I’ve not forgotten our poor form against the relegation fodder of the Prem. And I trust Harry Redknapp as far as I could throw him.

The problem remains, there is nothing straight forward about our situation, whether it be regarding our manager, our players, or our supposed targets. Messy, isn’t it?

    • LLL says:

The very words ‘three or four’ are enough to show what he’s got in mind, imo. If we suffer the loss of Modric, our best player, our most important player, the teams one world class talent and it’s engine, and strengthen a rival in the process, we do not look to invest the money in ‘three or four’ players. One to two I would say. Three or four means Harry Redknapp triffic lads(TM), old past it has-beens that will be bloating out our already bloated squad and wage bill as fast as you can say ‘top top boys’.

    • LLL says:

In any case, if he really thought it was a good idea, he should speak to Levy about it, not Sky Sports or whoever. He said in the interview that Levy won’t answer his calls. To be quite honest, I can understand that.

  • ufluckingplick says:

Levy is a sly operator and to be honest his view is I’ll buy players that Harry wants IF I think they will improve the squad. I’m happy with our squad and are our strikers going to misfire so badly this season? Levy has got PSB’s wages of the payroll which always seem to be DL’s main concern regarding signings. Harry is frustrated because he has a chairman that won’t do what he wants him to do. While Harry has a successful season the relationship between him and DL will continue as it is. I’m sure DL will pull something out of the bag and last minute as usual. Just a thought here isn’t Ancellotti hanging around in England…would be interesting should we have a poor season. DL & Harry both know we need a good season and the CL is it so I don’t care if they don’t send each other christmas cards or bang one out over the others picture. All I care is we are successful and for that to happen we need to keep our best players. Managers, players come and go the club keeps going.

    • Spurfect says:

Regarding freeing up wages, we’ve offloaded both Keane AND Woodgates now. They were both among the top earners on around £65-£70K a week. This should be enough to bring in some top players offering a decent wage. Lets hope the others are on their way too.

  • Finn says:

I cannot begin to fathom the sheer mindlessness of Harry’s latest comments about Modric…or is it?

Surely he cannot reveal so much, so openly to the media without sanction from Daniel Levy: on this subject in particular. He has of course chosen his words carefully, he’s maintained the cloak of DL does the buying and negotiations and makes the decisions, whilst being completely at odds with the club’s official line on Modric.

The fact that he does choose his words so carefully suggests that the blabber is rather more than running off at the mouth carelessly: so what is he up to?

I have always been a supporter of Harry, I like his jocular manner and respect his accomplishments that have given a lot of us some pride that’s been missing for some time. But of late I have had concerns about the actual intentions behind his words.

If he is challenging Levy by going public in an attempt to outflank him, then he’s playing a dangerous game: DL is a hard-nosed sod and I’m glad we’re on the same side. DL may get manipulated by Harry but if the end result of that manipulation doesn’t come up to scratch, Harry will have a pretty unsympathetic boss who will can him losing no sleep at all and he’ll have most of the supporters behind him.

On the other hand maybe DL has been taking a negotiating stand rather than a principled one. Maybe Harry is the good cop spruiking up the chance of signing Luka, “but it’ll have to be a big wad of notes to get Daniel to change his mind”.

Of course Harry maybe playing the %, maybe he’ll gamble on 2-3 top, top players, lose Modders and if it doesn’t click well England here I come. If it does click then he’s the one with the vision and cohones who’ll take all the credit……..a win-win unless he screws up AND doesn’t get the England gig.

Either way I don’t like it, I have really admired the credibility Levy has given himself and the club by his stand on Modric, as well as him underlining the intentions of the club not being a feeder operation and actually doing some real challenging of the top tier. If Levy is really pulling everyone’s chain with a principled stand whilst actually fronting a sting, its really disappointing and he’ll drop a lot of respect points in my book. If Harry is trying to maneuver Levy, then Harry will be a traitor in my eyes going against that principled stand and undermining it and the clubs place in the scheme of things.

On the surface it looks as simple as Harry wanting to do some wheeling-dealing and spitting the dummy because DL won’t give him the funds to play with and he can’t offload enough deadwood at decent prices to ante up enough to buy who wants. This is our best case scenario as the others that come to mind are really stomache churning (imo).

I wrote this earlier and apologise if some of it has been said already/since, but I had job accessing the site…… Finn.
