Lachanorizo

Good morning all.

Roll on Sunday and the opportunity to watch a football match. Yes, a point in the bag, good to give the kids a run out and all that but it was horrible viewing and I don’t believe I’ll bother watching any more of this pap.

On a practical note it will be interesting to take a peek at ticket sales for home fixtures for games featuring such weakened teams sheets. I would imagine that Levy & Co will be all over Arry on this and it may be a good juncture to run the tape showing fans fleeing the Lane during the course of the second half of the Hearts match.

I will of course be blasted for suggesting this with such illuminating arguments as ‘we woz 5-0 up’ ‘good to see the kids play’ but I wonder (with the notable exception of clowns such as ‘Proper Fan’ who soon naffed off when reminded that the game was included in his Season Ticket…) how many of the poor bar stewards contemplating reaching into their already recession hit pockets will bother.

Maybe I’m out of touch. Maybe I’m not a true fan. Maybe watching children play chase ball is the future. I have never tried Lachanorizo –  Cabbage with rice – but my guess is it’s a truly dull dish.

Honestly don’t have a problem with playing the kids. If it’s priced accordingly, bring it on – by all accounts we have people begging to get in right??
Considering we’ve the BinDippers at the weekend and Stoke Tuesday i don’t really see what choice he had. The fringe first teamers got some minutes (Pav, Bassong, Gio etc) and the kids get some very valuable experience. Playing in that sort of environment has got to be a step up in education from Brisbane Road or lower leagues. If they’re going to get stage fright best learn it early I would think.

I see it a quite a clever thing Harry did last night, as the majority of team have actually played as a unit, (albeit in a lower level) before The defence apart from Townsend, were pretty much 1st team and Pav up front put in his usual 1st team performance, which was decidedly crap, but nothing new there. I just wish some fans would actually see certain players for what they are and bear witness that GDS and Pav are both sub-standard by any strength of the imagination. On the plus side Cudicini and Corluka both had good games, so it’s job done and well done.

I’ve been a long time reader of your excellent blog h, and respect anyone who puts in so much of their own time for a fans website, but got to disagree with you on this one i’m afraid.
Makes absolute perfect sense for us to play a 2nd/3rd team in the europa. I do understand the spurs tradition of glory, of spurs being a cup and European team and winning every game (in style) and that we have a real and genuine chance of winning something here, but i think you can never win with some spurs fans, would they prefer us to of played a full strength team last night, picked up some injuries, and then see a tired spurs team lose to one of our biggest rivals in the league on sunday? The advantages far outweigh the negatives here.
    – Fitter, better rested team for the prem
-we’re good enough to get through this group with our 2nd team
-actually gives us a chance to see what some of these kids can do (spurs have never been renowned for bringing youth through) it massively helped liverpool last year, and many of their youth are now in their 1st team squad
-it keeps everyone fresh and match fit, so players can retain form, and if they are needed in the first team they come in sharper, not cold like kranc looked last season.
-once the majority of that injured 9 are back and fit, our squad will be more competitive than ever, and our so called 2nd team will still be a v.good team
-people argue that they’re fit professionals, should be able to play thurs/sun, no different to wed/sat last year- but fans forget, we dropped a lot of points on the weekend games after midweek europe last year, and massively ran out of steam towards the end of the season. If we would of rotated more, might be in champs league again this season.
-football is a squad game now, its about the 25, not the same 11 playing themselves into the ground, it’s a long season and you need you’re whole squad at their best, ready to take that oppourtunity to step up when it comes, europa allows us to do that.

Keep up the good work with the blog.

Matt, thanks for the comment. And for joining in at last :daumen:

I find myself agreeing with more than most of what you say, yet still feeling devoutly naffed off about having to watch games like last night :wassat:

Agree with the cost issue HH, but some of the stuff from our fellow supporters!?!?……

Would it not make sense to guarantee qualification first, then start bringing in the bratz. Was i the only one thinking last night that if we had 5,6 maybe 7 first teamers we would have put the bubbles away no probs…..3 points in the bag, confidence up, bring on the scousers?

      • Astromesmo says:

But H, that’s the point… We don’t have to watch. I never had to watch when it was Neil McNabb & relegated by Christmas but for some godforsaken reason I did. I’m still here. No-one forces us, it’s our choice.

Like someone said elsewhere, I’ll support whoever’s in the shirt and I think the lads that wore the shirt (with two exceptions) did the badge proud last night. After all the nonsense with Modric, it’s good to see someone who like chicken badge.

I felt quite lifted by last nights game, there was a lot of good fast crisp passing, some of it was pointless but its all going into the lads experience bank and with our training facilities second to none i feel excited about bringing through a cluster of home grown players for once.

I know we didn’t concede but yet again Bassong got twisted and turned by a second rate Greek side…everytime I see his name on the teamsheet I predict goals against!! Would it really have been too much to pay a few quid more and get Cahill or Samba??
The kids did ok especially in that stadium…I know I would have filled my Y-fronts had I had to play there…the greek fans certainly understand the notion of that ‘twelfth’ man. Pav looked awful..again, and Gio didn’t do his future chances any good. Oh well, bring on Sunday…suddenly I feel confident again!!
