Good morning all.

Roll on Sunday and the opportunity to watch a football match. Yes, a point in the bag, good to give the kids a run out and all that but it was horrible viewing and I don’t believe I’ll bother watching any more of this pap.

On a practical note it will be interesting to take a peek at ticket sales for home fixtures for games featuring such weakened teams sheets. I would imagine that Levy & Co will be all over Arry on this and it may be a good juncture to run the tape showing fans fleeing the Lane during the course of the second half of the Hearts match.

I will of course be blasted for suggesting this with such illuminating arguments as ‘we woz 5-0 up’ ‘good to see the kids play’ but I wonder (with the notable exception of clowns such as ‘Proper Fan’ who soon naffed off when reminded that the game was included in his Season Ticket…) how many of the poor bar stewards contemplating reaching into their already recession hit pockets will bother.

Maybe I’m out of touch. Maybe I’m not a true fan. Maybe watching children play chase ball is the future. I have never tried Lachanorizo –  Cabbage with rice – but my guess is it’s a truly dull dish.

I must say that I do find your line a bit odd on this HH. Surely the aim is to build a squad capable of challenging at the top table? Last year showed that and extended run in a Euro competition was simply too much for likes of Baler who, buy the end of the season as held together by his neon leg tape.

We therefore needed a full squad capable of challenging. The problem last year was that full squad meant playing the skip chipper, J***s, Crouch and any other flotsam that came into view.

Now that we’ve successfully tricked them into giving up the easy life, it makes nothing but sense to find out exactly what the best of our youth has about them. This blog and countless posters have been calling on the club to do this for years – But you complain about entertainment and value for money?

I know we pride ourselves on style but at the same time, we don’t get extra points for winning each game 8-0 – We do however lose points by having key players stacked up on the treatment table like Tuna in a fish market.

I’m really impressed by the approach the club has taken and I’m glad so many people are backing it. I also think this team of kids can start getting a lot of support along the way and a head of steam could easily build following them at the Lane – Getting behind them and seeing just what they’re capable of. I’ll certainly be one of them.

I remember as a boy at WHL being thrilled to see young players like Perryman & Hoddle get the chance to shine – And taking that chance with relish. I get the feeling that the more we support these youngsters, the more they’ll be capable of and who knows, maybe we can have a team that challenges without having to pay £200k per week. We might even unearth the new Hoddle or Perryman in the process.

Cheer up and get with the fun… Come on, it’s £25 in the Park Lane end for the Shamrock game, you’d pay that for two pint’s & a pizza.

    COYS!

You mentioning being thrilled at seeing Perryman and Hoddle took me back to seeing Chris Huhgton playing and knowing right away he was going to be a goodern, and reading up on him in the little tottenham yearbook that he was still doing an apprenticeship made me like him even more, but i knew he’d never have to fit a lift

I’ve recommended it before on this blog but it’s a great read – Check out ‘My Father and Other Working Class Football Heroes’ by Gary Imlach. From the days when the guy you were watching on the pitch on Saturday would come round and plumb the bathroom during the week. Outside of ‘The Glory Game’ it’s one of my favourite football books.

An excellent read if you want to see how footballers used to live a life bordering on serfdom. It’s amazing how the power balance has shifted from chairman owners to players over the years.

Page 48 of Imlach’s book, describing the annual footballer’s wage in comparison to the national manual wage back in 1952-55 should be made compulsory reading (the entire book should, really) for every professional footballer, in every dressing room across the land!

Could be a trite humbling for a few of them, then again…..

Spot on Astro, two great books.

Anyone know why Bostock wasn’t in the squad last night???

If he wasn’t injured, then the boy seems to have been another rough diamond that Harry has somehow turned back not coal!

I know the answer to dealing with the incredibly intrusive on-screen ads is to adjust one’s browser settings, but sadly I do not have the knowledge to do it for Google Chrome. Can someone help me? Sorry, HH.
