What’s The Difference Between Carlos Tevez & Luka Modric?

Good morning.

You look at Carlos Tevez’s shenanigans last night and suddenly Modric’s chicken badge allergy seems almost reasonable. We all have our problems. Sure if your domestic life is fraught you are entitled to say that it’s effecting you, if it is. But the Missing Link was barely able suppress a smirk when interviewed after last night’s game.

Some just want to play. And preferably for your badge. Ledley King is one such crazy kid. Speaking to the Mail, he essentially said that he hoped to hit a minimum 20 games this season.

“But, I have to say, I don’t feel particularly great out there, in terms of sharpness and fitness. It has been like that for a long time.

Sometimes I feel like I am playing at 60 or 70 per cent.

You have to deal with the restrictions at times, and hopefully once I have played a certain number of games, everything else will come.”

Refreshingly honest. One thing with King is that he is such a rarity in the modern game he is frequently heavily indulged by fans and as genuine and heartfelt the cries of, ‘Long Live The King’ are I’m sure, he has only ever been at 60%+ for some time now.

You can argue and successfully so that his 60% is better than most players 110%, but the serious bit here – too frequently glossed over – is that having a revolving door policy at The Lane has been more than an influencing factor in our defense looking on occasion like an outtake from a 3 Stooges movie.

I would strip back the opportunities given to King and literally wheel him out for the big games or when we have no obvious choice in the matter. We need as a Club to think about the future and a solid back four that play together just about week in, week out –  as I am sure your daddy told you – is the bedrock of any serious football team.

Elsewhere you may recall that we learned that Azza Blud had been hiding out in Lego Land Windsor. News just in this morning that zoo keepers using a diamond encrusted MP3 player as bait, captured the electric heeled winger in a giant butterfly net. As a result, he is expected to face the Celtic hoards that are Shamrock Rovers on Thursday night.

And so back to Modders and the first of gawd knows how many articles in stating that a one million percent pay rise is on the cards. No point in whining, no point at all. It’s ironic that a player with loyalty is crocked and the one who’s as fit as fiddle wants to hold us to ransom.

Someone else will buy Carlos Tevez, just as someone else will take your horrifically priced seat should decide to boycott. All you need to remember as the flames of hell begin to take the chill from your bones …is that there’s always room for one more in the handcart.

I cannot see any Arabs wanting to buy into a club with our background and tradition.

It’ll have to be a Russian.

We already have a billionaire owner.

      He’s tight.

I hate to be pedantic, but we don’t have a billionaire owner and have never had one. Joe Lewis has little or no interest in football, so he’s not tight, merely disinterested. He’s chairman of ENIC not Spurs, and obviously Daniel Levy is our chairman. It’s so misleading, especially from the press who fly Lewis’ status as a flag of convienience as it only serves to diminish the efforts Levy has made on the clubs recent success.

    Clause in the contracts needed…..

If you refuse to play you forfiet your annual salary.

If the medical staff pass you fit you cannot say you are not fit to play – again lose wages.

If you are not right in the head or not feeling “confident” – grow up or lose wages.

    Nuff said

Perhaps if this reoccurs, the club should effectivly sack the player and take his representatives to court for miss-selling their procduct, as it’s clearly not doing what it says on the tin. Agents can’t have it both ways and the authorities have to act now, by reviewing contracts and clauses so they become more effective. I cannot see why if a player resuses to play, why the club have to pay him?

I think Man City are doing precisely this as we speak. This is also why Tevez was so very, very quick to shout “misunderstanding” rather than admit he didn’t fancy a runabout. He knows [read: his agent told him] that he has a pretty flimsy legal case for demanding that they pay out his contract if he has refused to play for them. Or rather, he has a pretty flimsy case if ManC refuse to pay his wages, because he has refused to play.

I believe the jurisprudence in a case where both parties refuse to uphold the same contract boils down to “heeee staaaarted!” (points)

        • Essexian76 says:

Yeah, it made me laugh to see how quickly it dawned on him what exactly he’d done. I admire the City fans to be honest with their response. It’ll be interesting to see how this developes as City can afford to really play hard-ball, whereas we in reality can’t for a prolonged period.

From Dawsons blog on the official site…

“Ledley is a top, top player. He’s always in the right place at the right time”

:freu Oh no Dawson is one “for sure” away from twitching ! :dizzy2:

Why on earth is HR releasing private contractual info to the media ? If we are to blow the wage cap to pieces to placate a player who has shown no loyalty despite a lengthy contract what message does this send out to those with only 2-3 years left ? If we do (unlikely) manage to make Ade`s move permanent will we then pay him £200k+ ? Gareth Bale must then come into the £150k-£200k category, then there`s……………, Harry do what you`re paid for (and that`s not Tottenhams PR/media manager)manage the squad and leave complex negociations to Danny boy, you`re financial acumen is well documented. At least you can`t bankrupt England.

Mr Spiggott raises a good point – cos on the one hand we have ‘the fans’ (read ‘market segmented into purchasing preferences’) beings targeted at every opportunity for ‘contracts for sale of goods’ , i.e. every commercial / marketing ruse known to the business world (interestingly you may have seen this the other day – http://www.youllwinnothingwithyids.com/2011/09/you-do-not-have-permission-to-use-clubs.html) ….and on the other we have players seemingly able to duck out of any contractual obligations that would under other business circumstances see the legal types rubbing their loot grabbing mitts with glee. Are we fans really just ‘the suckers’ and the football industry ‘professionals’ the new divinely appointed infallibles?
Note to JOHN – be careful what you wish for!
