Good morning.

There is rather interesting website that goes by the name of MyFootballFacts.com and Paul, the chap what owns and writes it is a Tottingham fan of some considerable standing. If you want to go missing for a while and enjoy yourself while your gone, give him a click.

I’m easily distracted and hadn’t looked at the site for some time but whilst taking a peek at Spurs Community I clocked a thread that had highlighted an interesting ‘milestone’ that had been originally highlighted on Paul’s site.

Big Martin Jol and our Arry have now been in charge for precisely the same quantity of Premier League games.

       ARRY REDSCHNAPPS                          BIG MARTIN JOL

Played:                         114                                                               114

Won:                                56                                                                 47

Drawn:                           29                                                                30

Lost:                                29                                                                 37

Goals For:                  175                                                              169

Against:                       133                                                              148

Goal Difference:    +42                                                              +21

Points Won:              197                                                              171

Average Points
Per Game:                   1.73 (66 per full season)                     1.5 (57 per)

Win %:                         49.12%                                                       41.23%

Now of course anyone can argue that all these numbers may be correct and in proper order but at the end of the day you’re not comparing like with like. The players were different, the fixtures were in a different order against teams fielding different players …yadda yadda ya.

But that doesn’t stop the figureseing of interest…

Stat’s can prove many things, but never the whole story. Harry’s backroom staff are of his own choosing, Jol’s were not. Jol was primarily a coach who’d filled a position out of desperation, because of a poor appointment and internal wrangling. Jol never chose the players he had to work with either. On the other hand Redknapp has unquestionably done better result wise, but also has had the backing of the board in terms of autonomy.

    • Hartley says:

What about Investec and Aurasma? :shifty:

      • essexian76 says:

Yeah, and them an’ all, bring back Hewlett Packard and the Pony kit. But joking aside, it’s not relevant any more. Many will also forget that Jol went behind the clubs back and spoke to Newcastle before getting the tin-tack, so there was more than a little irony in his departure.
But that square up to Wenger will always be locked away in my ‘things that will always make me smile’to be taken out and used on my rainy football days.

        • Hartley says:

I think another point is that Redknapp took over the reigns of an already well run team with most of the current players available to him from the outset.

        • essexian76 says:

Well, to a point, but not forgetting we’d lost Berbatov and Keane from the previous season and had to try out and ‘bed in’ Bentley, Dos Santos, but I think Ramos had lost it after the cup win anyway, but hey ho. All I’m saying is stats cannot tell the whole story only a chapter one

        • Ledge says:

Already well run? We were 2 from 8 you know..

        • jim says:

But demonstratively we shouldn’t have been.

    • kojac says:

      good point

  • toddspur says:

    Arry out; coyle, erm

ah fuck it lets stick with old troutchops

    ffs

There are some here waxing romantic about Jol, but Harry could do with a bit more humility and at least act like he cares about the club and its fans. Few love him, some fear him but most grudgingly respect him. He’s not wily enough to take on the game’s great tacticians, but If he can build something of lasting quality he’ll have made his mark.

  • Cusop says:

Jol was a fans manager, Harry is the medias manager. Love Jol, still can’t stand Harry.

If they were politicians Harry would win every time tells you everything.

As for Jols tactical record it was initially very good, it became hampered by Commoli at the end. I hope Martin is at Fulhumm to get his welcome from the away fans. I love Martin Jol

    • essexian76 says:

Maybe if they could’ve produced a love child between them, we fans of the mighty Spurs would all far happier :winke:

      • jim says:

I’m happy with HR. But MJ hit a chord. He seemed to always say what we wanted to hear. Whereas HR always seems to say, and that i cant defend.

        • essexian76 says:

I’d say that’s what all of we supposed ‘Harry lovers’ think, whereas most of us don’t actually like the person but equally cannot overlook his results since he’s taken over, me?, I’m happy to Spurs winning and couldn’t give a toss how they achieve it providing they continue to do so.

You can always count on Mr Mediocrity for a load easily pleased crap and BS.

I don’t know why you support Spurs wouldn’t West Ham be more to your standards?

        • essexian76 says:

Do you fancy meeting up at the next game?

        • eastanglianspur says:

          load of

        • jim says:

Oh please EA give it a rest. How on earth can you say Essex76 or i am easily pleased? The difference between us is i’m happy with Spurs trading punches with teams that have far superior spending power. You want change for no other reason than its HR.

  • eastanglianspur says:

Gerrard was tipping Trout Chops for the England job the other day so make the most of these Trout Chops moments all you old redders lovers.

Re the stats, which always lie, would be interest to see what kind of hands were dealt to each manager in terms of the two squads and how they compared, seeing as it’s not the managers that are playing.

    • UnkleKev says:

Stats say that we’ve won the FA Cup eight times. Perhaps you would care to point out the fallacy there? Given that they always lie ‘n’ all.

    • Astromesmo says:

I’m not bothered about a ‘Trout chops’ moment, that’s just utterly shallow. I don’t follow Spurs because I love Redknapp, I’m just rather happy that we played in the Champions League and that the club are moving forward – Aren’t you? I simply haven’t heard a viable argument other than ‘I don’t like him’ for why he should be sacked.

Actually, here’s a question for you… Presuming that he doesn’t go for the England job. Would you be prepared to see Spurs finish out of the top 6 this season if it meant the sack for Redknapp?
