A Fistful Of Fluoxetine

Good evening,

I remember going to night clubs in the late eighties and giving men who looked like Stoke players a really wide berth. They were pasty faced behemoths with glassy eyed, heavily booze sedated glares. Occasionally they focused upon their prey and those daft enough to meet their gaze were too frequently met with an immediate threat of violence.

The first half was near unwatchable. And I’m not whining just because we trudged off two goals to the worse. It was anti football all the way. Stoke hoofed and Huthed their way again and again into our penalty area. If any other Premiership outfit when awarded a throw in gave a 15/20 second burst of Irish dancing (just for example) prior to throwing the ball, they would be penalized without hesitation.

But with Stoke the ceremony of the towel, the ball cleansing, rubbing, examinaion and finally the run up prior to launch appears to now be a welcomed part of the game. Hell, they’ve even let them sew a towel into the inside of their shirts.

The second half was a mess. Chris Foy is a retarded and incontinent old woman and that’s about as constructive as I can be about him.

A dreadful game.

The decisions were pretty awful but it seems to be the theme of this season, where the EPL referees have proved beyond all doubt that they are unfit for purpose.

Like you H however, the thing that annoyed me most about the game was the celebration of anti-football. From the cheer that goes up like winning a penalty when you get a throw-in, to the booing and whistling at the oppo when they try to get the ball on the almost untouched grass.

It kind of sums up the mind-numbing mediocrity of the so-called ‘English’ game. The same runt breed that spawns the likes of Terry and sends us spinning from every major tournament each time we encounter someone who can put a foot on the ball.

It really is grim up North if that constitutes fun.

The fact that Modric was booed and the launching of a throw in said it all.

We all can name many players in the Prem who are outstanding footballers – for other teams.

I only boo/groan if they cheat. I do not resent their talent. How would that work???

      :-(

thats all a bit harsh isn’t it,i love the english game, stoke do what they do to survive,it doesn’t sound very lefty of you at all astro

      • astromesmo says:

Kids around here deal drugs to survive, it doesn’t make it right, just what they have to do. Kids around here don’t really have an alternative (the list of Oxford grads from Tottenham is a bit thin on the ground) but Stoke do. They have a decent budget and a full ground every week. ‘Lump it into the area for the tall bloke as it gives us enough points at home every week to survive’ isn’t a very lofty ambition – It’s lazy.

It’s not ‘the English game’ Koj, mate – how can it be?

They played something so nasty that they made 3MP look useful.

And this is a guy who would only leave The Lane if given a bung. I hope to sued writing that, by the way…

BTW, when I say the English game, I don’t refer to the great stuff played by people like Silva & Modric in our league… which is very entertaining. I refer to the sack of shite that turns out in the shirt with the lions on it every time the world has a footie celebration.

i understand you don’t like the way stoke go about their business but i’m sure they are delighted to be hanging about in the topflight, their throw ins are pretty unique and the crowd respond to it,i think it is a bit unfair to treat them like they are some kind of scum

@ astro, well they do have an alternative and a choice, its a bit of a tired old excuse and i don’t agree with you about england,i don’t think they are a sack of shite,i wouldn’t say its that easy getting to the last 4 of international tournaments,we regulary get to 1/4 finals which is where we are in the world, seems fair enough to me,what are you exactly looking for,if you don’t want to get behind them thats fair enough, just like some people don’t get behind harry

infact the prem has england and gazza’s tears to thank more than people think,it was that tournament that inspired murdoch to take over english football and shift it up a gear or two although i could have jsut made that up :ninja:

So Koj, was it our robust 0-0 against Algeria or the 1-0 demolition of Slovenia that filled you with pride and joy last time out? Or maybe the comedy capers of the 1-1 against the colonial boys that took the edge off the humiliation we suffered against the first proper football team we came up against?

Getting trouted at the 1/4 final stage when even Bolton could probably get through the group phase isn’t exactly much to compose a theme tune to. The fact that the mindless nerks out there making themselves look like idiots are vastly overpaid one-footed plinths with inflated opinions of themselves doesn’t really endear them to me. Sorry.

Sadly, I don’t see much hope for change in the 2.0 version either. Jack Willshire hardly strikes me as someone likely to be filled with modesty on the world stage. I see more swaggering bluster punctured like a balloon and the ‘Great Escape’ blaring out as we see rows of disappointed beetroot tanned faces in comedy St George outfits.

Carry-On football. English mediocrity at it’s best.

        • kojac says:

well thats fair enough, insults and generalisations included, you are obviously not a fan living in the moment of the match and the situation, why are they overpaid, they are in the biggest entertainment game in the business, fat frank got it to 2-2 against the germans but the amateur officials of football got it horribly wrong and the germans, yes i said the germans took us to the cleaners on the counter attack, happens to the best of them

if you can’t get behind them and support them, why criticise all the time,i know its popular to hate on england but i thought you were more balanced than that ,like you are with tottenahm,
i agree i would tell the band to stop now, enough is enough,i can never understand why england fans don’t sing club anthems in games

  • Superspurs says:

That was one of the worst refereeing displays I have witnessed in a long time, I appreciate that our run wasn’t going to last forever however do feel that the manner in which our beloved Spurs were beaten by a anti football team is beyond a disgrace, best league in the world, my left foot. The referee was clearly a bias piece of shite and imho encouraged these team of thugs to carry on playing anti football. I don’t feel too sorry for ourselves, we’ll rise above it and get over it but what is really sad is that Stoke fans actually think they are watching football by a team of mindless thugs.

  • daniel says:

Foy was not just bad, he was clearly working on behalf of a betting syndicate.

  • spurs4life says:

I actually cant believe that, Hand ball in the penalty area at least twice, and thats not even mentioning their first goal. Adebayor was 2 yards onside and Shawcross handled it in the build up. Well done Chris Foy and your assistants, you dont support A rsenal by any chance do you????? THATS CHEATING IF EVER I SAW IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COYS! COYS! COYS!

  • Iain says:

If we ever were to see a bent ref this is what it would look like, including the smokescreen penalty to the other side.

But it was a lot of honest mistakes IMO.
