Pav’s Gone AWOL

Hello my dears.

The tension is tangible. Only nearly 24 hours away from one of the biggest games in this football club’s entire history ever, since the last one. I had my say about the need for discipline here and so beyond that we need to make sure we …score.

Manu, Defoe and that pesky Russian are all fit and raring to go. Sadly Manu’s contractual obligations mean he’ll only be going as far as the comfy seats behind the substitutes.

So then there were two.

Arry in the Current Bun says of Defoe,

“City have won all 10 Prem home games this term but it would be a fantastic achievement for us to go there and change that.

Defoe could have a key role in that. I watch him in training and he has the shortest backlift of any striker, he barely bends his leg when teeing up a shot but then he is a brilliant finisher.

“I’ve taken Jermain with me to nearly all the clubs I’ve managed. I signed him as a little kid at West Ham, he has been with me at Portsmouth and now at Spurs.

Our squad is more than capable of coming away with something from Man City, and it could be a big day for Defoe.”

Let’s hope they can both do the right thing and take a leaf from Ade’s performances and do more than ‘turn’, ‘shoot’ and ‘wince’. Pav’s been AWOL ever since the Togan arrived and he won’t get a better chance to prove he’s worth keeping than Sunday.

His run out in the Europa weren’t any good and we can sit here and bicker over why that was the case until the end of time. The focus here is on a top flight Premiership game surrounded by decent team mates and dangerous opposition.

    De Jong and Barry?

One will get booked early if we play at pace.

Bale & Lennon to draw the fouls.

I worry about Balotelli. He is too good for Daws and Kaboul and he could do something daft.

    It is Webb after all.

Why worry about him…? oh yes…he is good, I must say that but…when only he is on the ball…without the ball??? If i were Harry, my instruction would be very simple… STOP him from receiving the ball. How? shut-out the “feeders”..Barry, silva, adams, etc… Parker, VDV, Modric, Lennon & Bale needs to be on their toes all the time, possession is key! And Dawson needs to play it simple and safe..no hoofing please and be very wary of his headers and clearances.
      COYS!!!

Good to see Van Ver Vaart talking sense in the papers today.

“This match is so crucial for us. We have to be able to demonstrate we are candidates for the title and we can only do that by winning in Manchester.”

“Our poor result against Wolves was a huge shock for us. It was an accident, but I also believe it must serve as a huge lesson.”

“City only beat bottom side Wigan 1-0 and we know that in the Premier League there is just no easy game.”

“But we have seen in recent weeks that City are not invincible and our manager, Harry Redknapp, has been reminding us of that. This is the moment for Spurs to come alive and show that we really want something out of this season.”

“Things have really started to develop. We are an ambitious side so we want to beat City at their own stadium more than anything. It will be enormous for us and huge value.”

“If we win the gap will be down to two points but defeat will mean an eight-point gap, which you would see as a massive hill to climb.”

“On that basis alone this will be a decisive match for us, so we know what is at stake. We have to see that this is a huge final for us and we have to prepare for the game like that. The key to victory will be in the midfield. I expect there will be a massive battle with Silva. Samir Nasri is also a talented player, while there is defensive cover from players like Gareth Barry and Nigel De Jong.”

More sense like this and less talk of being Title Contenders!!!!

Barry & De Jong. Early bookings if we play at pace.

Any three from Balotelli, Nasri, Sila and Milner.

    Don’t think Johnson will start.

Possibly too good for Daws and Kaboul – they too are prone to silly red cards.

    We need Ledley. Please.

Can’t see our defence being able to cope with their attack at all. No points, unless we take our chances in front of goal; something we’ve been shit at for too long.

    • Alspur says:

      Wigan’s defence didn’t do too bad… just sayin’…

      ;)

      • seattlespursguy says:

TMWNN, where has this “shock and awe” City attack been?

        • TMWNN says:

Probably been waiting for this game.

We’ll definitely create chances, but our profligacy in front of goal, and at dead ball scenarios, is shameful. Time to start finding the target.

Our back four will be given a right runaround.

        • essexian76 says:

‘shameful’ you’d think we were third bottom, not third top, it must be hard watching Spurs with a rusty penknife held at your wrists.

        • TMWNN says:

If you want to settle for being 3rd in life, that’s nobody’s business but yours, but it’s the losers’ atittude such as your own which could stop the club from actually achieving.

Talk of suicide is extremist nonsense.

        • seattlespursguy says:

@TMWNN,I don’t disagree about us being goal shy, but City have been seriously off in that department lately as well. I think we can absolutely deal with them, especially with Parker in the team this time around.

        • essexian76 says:

Settle for 3rd?, FFS,I’m not settling for anything, it’s January-but by your reckoning, we shouldn’t bother going on Sunday, nor should the team. Or are you just trying to put a positive spin on things. As for a losers attitude-try looking at whay you’ve posted-it’s hardly a winners thoughts is it?

        • Mitchell_Thomas says:

I’d settle for a turd. Too much codeine. Bunged up the old pipes. Ay yi yi.

        • TMWNN says:

Seattle, they’ve not been great, but I think Aguero and Silva will be too much of a handful for Kaboul and Dawson, especially when our fallbacks don’t like being back. Hope I’m wrong.

    • jim says:

Err we’ve scored in last 20. Thats not goal shy.

      • essexian76 says:

Don’t even bother Jim, if it’s not negative, then he’s just interested. Our defence is shit, our attacks rubbish, our managements clueless, our chairmans am idiot, blah, blah, blah…zzzzzzzzzzz.
The thing is, when you buy into a club such as ours, what exactly is a realistic perspective? It makes me laugh, when this same bloke bleats on about everything wrong about the club (in his opinion) and the team, yet has never once posted anything remotely positive, but the real beauty of it is his unerring knack of completely missing the point and to be wrong so damned often that he’s Mr consistency in my eyes! Still, thank god he doesn’t do the team talks, then we well and truly in the kack
