Good morning,

The Internet is clucking like one great big wet cyber hen. Arry gets a not guilty and withing hours, Fabio get’s a not on your nelly. The bookies have shrunk the price on Arry being the new England manager and Mr Capello is looking for Italian speaking staff to help him count his money.

The FA needs an Englishman to step up to the plate. And frankly the names on the list beyond Norman Stanley Redschnapp’s don’t really stand up. The full SPs are here. Stuart Pearce has said on numerous occasions he doesn’t think it’s his time yet.

If he stays true to this, it’ll be a thoughtful decision which would tee him up very nicely for the England era to follow this cut & shunt period where everyone’s waiting for Frank Lampard to retire and John Terry to officially join the English Defence League.

The solution is staring us all in the face.

Levy & Co. have Arry under a legally binding contract. So THFC call up the FA and offer David Pleat as caretaker England manager until the end of the season. That gives THFC breathing space to negotiate a replacement and Arry gets the job that he feels he was born to do.

The sad thing for Arry is the England job is virtually unrecognisable from the one he grew up respecting and coveting. But we’re all guilty of not realising things we once loved have changed for the worse.

What a mess! Spurs’ season looks likely to be derailed no matter what happens. I think Harry should get the job but not right now. This is one of those special situations where you can attract the very best available manager for a one off tournament. For me, it’s got Hiddink written all over it. Not because i don’t think Harry will do a good job, it’s because it’s a tricky situation (no Rooney and no captain) and needs a different kind of man to take charge.
With little or no time to prepare i can see Harry picking a more “mature” side if he takes over. Don’t be surprised he if calls up Beckham, Scholes, Lampard, Crouch and even David James. Harry loves a good strong personality in the dressing “who’s bin there and dan that”, whether or not this player can actually still play football is not important. I have no problem with Pleat, i only want to win the FA cup and finish 3rd…………

Harry is 64. Why he’d want to take the England job at that age gawd knows. I would have though the FA would want someone younger anyhow.

He’s got at least two years in him; the press will have him out at the end of the world cup anyway so that’s fine.

      He’s younger than capello

Aragones won the European Cup with Spain at 70 (don’t tell me “anyone could win with them”. It was their first major trophy in 44 years, and only their second of all time). Fergie is, what, 71? Not doing too bad.

Not saying that the FA will see it this way, but as long as he is motivated to keep going (which he seems to be), ‘Arry has a more than enough miles left in the tank. No matter how well the next England manager does, I don’t think anyone sees it being the same guy in charge six years or more from now (can’t think of too many national team coaches in the modern era who’ve been given that sort of time at the helm, successful or not).

Yes,but it’s the players that don’t perform at international level.

  • Cheeky Bill says:

In theory, this should have a galvanising effect on the English contingent within the Spurs ranks. They get a up front and personal opportunity to make a final push for their place on the plane.

Short term can work for us. Long term a bit of a nightmare.

The first bad result for Arry at the Euros will see a torrent of abuse from the gutter press that will make Rosie s–t herself.
