Farewell Old Girl

Guten Abend.

So it’s goodbye from Super Roman Crazypavin’. In the final analysis it was a less than super stay at The Lane. But there some moments of superness.

He was branded a turkey by some, so let’s talk turkey.  In the 09/10 season he had a better goals per minute ratio than all of his fellow strike partners in Midget Gem, 3MP and PSB.

In the 2010/11 season when by March Romanus had  ratio of 151 compared to competitors Midget Gem who had 208, 3MP had 243 and Rafael van der Vaart had 161.[

By December of the 11/12 season, he’d been been rationed to just 18 minutes of Barclays Premier League football.  Then he came one vs Sunderland and scored the only goal of the game.

So this is a small plea from me for the hate fest gang to move on to the next poor barsteward they plan on bullying.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – don’t think Arry communicates effectively with those who don’t speak the Queen’s. The guys from foreign climes that excel in his charge ie Modric are the type able to play anywhere under anyone. So if Pav was guilty of needing an arm around the shoulder it is ironic he was isolated under Arry.

He wasn’t discovered nicking stuff out of other player’s lockers; he hasn’t left under a cloud, but to read some of the mean spirited garbage on Twitter and a all the forums last night you’d have thought he did.

I wish you well.

This has to be the quietest Jan windows ever. I wonder how much of this is due to reality setting in such as the idea that it is one hell of a gamble to pay £30mill plus for a player that has had half a decent season in the PL?

Looking at the way that Shitty have started to fold in recent weeks and Cheatski’s lack of consistency this year, we know we are looking at two teams that have the resources to sign God and make him the highest paid player on the planet, but the day of reckoning regarding FFPR is fast approaching. Are we starting to see the playing field being levelled out?

Add to that, the uncertainty of the future of our own manager, and it looks like we are living in very interesting times.

The likelihood is that next year, two of the Sky 4 will be without CL money (Bindippers for the third year in a row), just when we are starting to show our credentials as long term customers at the top table.

I can confirm that arry does have his favourites ,he opened his Monaco account in Rosies name and the the other mutt didnt get a look in and no one remembers his name now hes just the other dog.

The Pav love-in is all well and good, but in his entire time here he never showed that he was really up to it. Blaming his shortcomings on Harry is convenient but lacks substance. To argue that Harrry can’t coach foreign players is simply cretinous. There are quite a few foreign players in our first 11, there are more in the squad, and many more whom Harry has successfully managed in the past. Besides which, surely Pav should have used some of his many idle moments to learn a little English, since he was being paid such a large amount of money to work here for quite a long time? No? Oh well, poor old Pav etc, such a sympathy case!

I’m not sorry to see Pav go at all. He was mostly ineffective as a starting player and only slightly less so as sub. Quite a few times, he would score a goal, earn a starting place in the next game and proceed to give the most anonymous performance he could muster. To say he wasn’t given opportunities is wide of the mark. He was, but he didn’t take them. His ratio is also a red herring and everyone knows this. Most of his goals came in irrelevant competitions against poor opposition.

That all said, I don’t get the Saha thing at all. That is not ‘pushing on’ as we should have done this window, that’s ‘shuffling about a bit’. Same with Nelsen. Another ageing crock will fit into our back four nicely I suppose.

Ditto sending Pienaar on loan, and Charlie. No cover at right back now – is this ‘pushing on’?. And I think if anyone hasn’t been given a fair run by Redknapp nor fair treatment by the fans then it’s poor old Super-Peanut.

Hold up, LLL did I invent his stats :hae:

      • LLL says:

I didn’t suggest you had done, but you don’t qualify them by stating or comparing the competitions etc. So I assumed then, that you were including all of Pav’s goals in the Carling / Europa cup etc. Still, these stats can be misleading. I’m sure that Bent’s ratio here was plenty healthy. However, mostly all Spurs fans are united in their view of Bent – he’s shit.

    • mattspurs says:

He scored against Chelsea and Man U when given a chance, he was only played in “irrelevant comps” this season and couldn’t score in the bigger games if Harry didn’t play him!!

if anyone could be accused of only scoring against poor teams only it would surely be Defoe? His biggest PL season haul for us (18) in 09/10 included 5 against Wigan and 3 against Hull, leaving 10 from the remaining 32 games.

Don’t get me wrong, Pav had to go, but Harry didn’t have a positive effect on the guy’s play.

      • LLL says:

I didn’t say Pav only scored against rubbish, I just said that his stats could be cooked by taking into consideration these games…

He was quite clearly capable of scoring goals. But like I said, what else was he capable of?

    • LosLorenzo says:

“Most of his goals came in irrelevant competitions against poor opposition.”

It is true of pretty much every striker playing for a top team, that most of their goals come against poor opposition. You going to criticise David Villa because he scores most of his goals against weaker Premiera Division teams?

It is particularly true of Pav, mainly because most of his time on the pitch came against “poor opposition” in “irrelevant competitions”. It’s hard to score a goal against AC Milan when you’re playing against Young Boys…

      Seriously, LLL…

      • LLL says:

I’m only answering the stato’s that praise his ratio. I’m not saying he was incapable of scoring against better opposition either way. I saw with my own eyes that he wasn’t a very good footballer, but a fine finisher at times. That is of limited use on a football pitch, in a team of 11 players. My opinion. If you thought he was good enough to start every game, that’s your opinion and you’re welcome to it.

        • LosLorenzo says:

I agree, there’s more to football than stats. And he had a far from complete game. That much I can agree with.

    • VanderFaart says:

To argue that Harrry can’t coach foreign players is simply cretinous

      Harry doesn’t coach.End of.

      • LLL says:

What does he do then? How come we are 3rd in the league? Does he come in every morning and cast magic spells over the squad and voodoo hexes over the opposition? Really, I don’t pretend he is flawless, but the general media opinion and seemingly that of many of our own fans is that all he does is crack a few cockney jokes, twitch, say ‘triffic’ a few times then drive home.

  • Trevor says:

I never understood why “super” Pav was so well liked at The Lane. I sit in the south lower every home game and whenever I saw him play it was always very average to poor. Admittedly he scored a few important goals along the way but he was never a player in the Spurs mould. I also had enough of his or his agents moaning about lack of play time…..You were just not good enought mate!Good riddance if you ask me…..sorry to all you Pav lovers!

  • LosLorenzo says:

There is a clear pattern in our transfer dealings this window. What do Pav, Charlie, Bassoon and Peanut have in common? They’re internationals who need to play to maintain that status. They won’t be happy sitting on the bench, but not good enough to challenge for the first team. So rather than risk grumblings in the dressing room, they’ve been allowed to go somewhere where they can play. Where it was neccessary (CB & FW) we have brought in capable cover in Nelsen & Saha.

Don’t think ‘Arry was trying to strengthen, but rather remove anything that might hurt the team morale and group cohesion. They are the biggest advantage we have over Shitty and Cheatscum, and we’re going to leverage it for all it’s worth.

If that gets us into the CL (which at the moment it looks like it will), we’ll be able to attract and afford better long term replacements/improvements than we would have been able to this window.

Oh, and if for some reason Aitch isn’t with us next season, it will allow his replacement to pick his own long-termers.

As of right now I’m pretty happy with the window. Haven’t lost anyone important, and the big boys (read: wallets) haven’t been unsettling the cream of our crop (no doubt partly thanks to the precedence Dannyboy set in the Ratboy Saga). There’s no reason to believe we can’t perform as well or better than we have for the first 20 games of season, and to be honest, we have been performing better than anyone but perhaps Shitty (whose performances/morale seem to be on a downward trajectory).
