THFC Getting Into Bed With AEG : Will Levy Be Tucking Them In?

Good morning.

Four hundred and fifty million quid is the figure being bandied about. Philip Anschutz of AEG it is suggested is prepared to buy the controlling stake in Spurs. From The Express.

Nigh on twice the figure of the Liverpool sale. But aside from being at least twice the club, Tottenham come to market in rather good fiscal shape and not on their bindipping knees.

Why would this happen? Well we can only guess really. ENIC are perhaps reaching a crossroads whereby their investment is coming to the end of one chapter and about to commence upon another. They are after all an investment company and if they don’t trade now,  attempting to do so later one might argue would at best cause confusion. At worst look like they were bailing, no matter what the books said.

Anschutz’s form in the field is nothing shy of excellent of course. Not just a leading light but a driving force behind the MLS this is a guy who appears to have combined business acumen with a legitimate passion for the game. AEG owns LA Galaxy and Houston Dynamo. The potential synergies between AEG and THFC are pretty breathtaking. AEG’s wiki page.

What mustn’t be negotiable in any of this is the retention of Levy & Co. If AEG wanted to buy in talent and experience for the road ahead it’s inconceivable to suggest a better candidate.

Football clubs are generally run by a selection of idiots that nearly defy description. Bent second hand car salesmen, white slave traders, costamongers, devil worshipers and money launderers.

@ EssexIan – We needed an Alan Sugar to bail us out and he steadied the ship, before allowing ENIC to take the helm. Sugar did the right thing for the right reasons and I’ve no doubts that ENIC are doing likewise, Are you soft in the head EssexIan. Sugar invested £8m in Tottenham and walked with £100m. He still has as much £ worth of shares as his original investment. Saved the club. Raped the club and set it back 20 years, more like.
Alan Sugar wasn’t being charitable to Tottenham, he made an investment and took a massive divident away when he finally pulled out. ENIC on the other hand, bought good players and pumped ‘BIG’ money into the club and Daniel Levy deserves all the praise he’s getting for his astuteness and awareness.

Sugar took a huge risk with his money, which nobody else was willing to take at the time. Without him the solution would have been pulling a Leeds.

If it upsets you that capitalists willing to take risks, make a profit – move to North Korea.

From the sound of it, your logic is “if someone walks away with more money than they put in, it must have come at the expense of the club”. So by your logic, an owner has to lose money on the investment to be a ‘good owner’.

This is a gross simplification. If you sell something for more than you bought it, chances are that the asset has appreciated in value. In other words, if Sugar (as you claim, I have no idea what the figues look like) sold the club at a profit of £92m, then that is likely due to the fact that the club was worth £92m more when he left than when he arrived. “Raped the club”? Don’t think so.

Cookie, when Sugar bought Spurs the stadium was in a bad state,he saved our ass,get your figures right before you move to Cuba.

Soft in the head? Yeah righto, no mate just dealing with the facts of the matter. Who do you think put Spurs into a position to be sold for such a huge profit? Venables (you know, the FOOTBALL man?), put our club in jeopardy, and limited the list of potential buyers to ONE!

Sugar may have initially just been a businessman but he left a spurs supporter. You only have to listen to what hes saying regarding HR. Without him there would be no Spurs as we now know it. I cant believe anyone could think otherwise.

      North Korea……..Cuba………hmmmm!

Far better living in one of the ‘Projects’ of NY, South Central L.A or a council estate on Moss Side- the products of glorious global corporate capatalism

I knew these comments would be like a red flag with a gold hammer and sickle to you Billy Legitski. :winke:

I’m wasn’t defending capitalism. Just pointing out that cookie’s beef was with free markets, not Sugar.

There are some pretty sh*tty places in the States (although NY specifically is a lot better than the reputation it has in Europe), certainly. But you have to admit that the VAST majority have it a helluva lot better than your average North Korean (unless you’re a general). Or Somalian. Or Afghan.

“cookie’s beef was with free markets, not Sugar”

Out of context, that would have been positively SidTrotteresque.

Nothing I can do about this. I’ll love the team no matter what.

I can see AEG sponsoring stadium and potentially shirt for a good while if this does happen. I’d reckon sponsorship first but ownership may follow… A shrewd business move if it does happen, will effectively cement our push forward from a solid base. I just hope levy stays; as above, nothing I can do about it but I’ll love the shirt no matter what.

  • Sid Trotter says:

I do not like the way that AEG misses out the letters B, C, D and F. It is a diabolical liberty.

Dontcha wish ya owner was AEG
