Unrepentant Analysis, Unswerving Player Ratings

Good morning.

We won and that is what we call in the trade, a good thing. ‘I want Champions League and the FA Cup.’ said Tottenham supremo Arry Redschnapps in  a rare post match interview.

You have to wonder what he’s planning to do with either should he achieve this ambition. The team that blazed a trail and forged a 10 point lead over Arsenal were industrious and talented whereas this mob have sadly descended into being merely looky-likeys of the 2011/2012 Tottenham.

Tactically ineptitude is the heart of the malaise and for obvious reasons it reveals itself when not masked by individual brilliance. Some are refusing to acknowledge this and are exasperated  by what they perceive as the constant nit picking at a manager that has achieved so much. Which must be fabulous way to lead your life. If your definition of fabulous is to be blinkered, unambitious and unquestioning.

This team doesn’t just have the makings of a great one …up until recently it was one! Some refuse to acknowledge the direct correlation between us going off the boil and Arry’s mind being on the once impending threat of abysmal room service in Pentonville or what impact the introduction of Paul Scholes will have on England’s  midfield needs. Anyone who genuinely believes this probably also thinks that those Til Payday Loans on the telly are good value.

It is depressing after having shot like Lilywhite comets that we are rapidly heading into damage limitation territory. We’re at the business end of the season and it’s been mooted by some that our run in is kinder than that of others. I’d be fascinated to know how they came to that conclusion.

We don’t appear to have any system in place. Every single player in the first squad other than Brad walks out thinking this could be the game where they score a ‘wondergoal’. Defending is an optional extra. Set pieces are an anathema; throw ins have become elaborate drop balls and our corners are so consistently poor the bulk are taken short in an effort to give us some advantage no matter how brief.

A serious shake up is required. If last night had been a boxing match and you airbrushed away all the goals,  Stevenage might well have just won on points.

7.881 Occasionally seem pulling children out of a burning building. I’d be genuinely interested in playing him over Friedel in the Premiership.

5.986 If pace were pennies he’d be a millionaire.

6.743 Adequate enough but CB’s work in pairs and he is a party of one. We’re linked with a constant stream of strikers, I want us to build from the back.

3.001 Making Sebastien Bassong memories happy ones. Compounded his stupidity by boring the referee with his life story afterwards.

 6.353 Daft as a brush.

7.645 Another shift of having to do the work of three men.

 6. 555 Isn’t good enough to play defensively. Livermore should have started if Sandro wasn’t up for it.

 6. 010 This man has a vision. Excused defending and or making any other useful contributions unless it is contained within the vision.

7.646 The few glimpses of loveliness came from him. The player that gives our manager an obvious headache of where to play him.

6.944 I like him lots. It’s taking me a while to accept that he does not, cannot, will not set every gave alight.

8.000 Our saviour. A man among men. And a veritable hit with the laydees to boot. On the downside he’s a profligate, self indulgent one trick Shetland pony.

    :-D :-D What are you like HH…?

I agree there has been a woeful malaise in recent weeks, and it started with Stevenage away. 2 weeks prior we possessed imperious defensive steel at Anfield. Something is going on with the focus and mentality of the players. Perhaps it’s inexperience of being where we are, perhaps it’s the instability of the England thing, perhaps it’s complacency since being out of the title race – I have no idea and indeed the players may not be able to put their finger on it – I sensed a nervousness in Harry last night which tells me all is not right in the dressing room. We need to sort it out and fast – or it will all end in tears and Thursday nights on Channel 5. We managed to bounce back spectacularly after the 5-1 City drubbing and we need to do it again. Defend better, concentrate, set pieces, and move the ball as quickly and purposely as we have been all season. 3rd place and a 9th FA Cup to play for. COYS!

For me, Kranjcar was poor. Walker was great (better than the low score you gave him here) – Defensively got in some key tackles, interceptions. He WAS playing a risky game in giving their left winger a lot of space, but Kyle is to me learning from Ekotto on how to play the role. Vdv had a better second half. Defoe’s excellent finishing saved us, but Adebayor still shows why Defoe does not deserve to start. Adebayor is lively, Defoe has no energy at all – apart from when the perfect ball gets to him. Cudicini had some hairy moments… not deserving of a 7…

Spot on, Mus, but Ye cannae support the Spuds on here. That will lead to deletion. Remember, h knows best.

      What deletion?

      Do tell…

Can I just have ‘sorry’ as my siggi? It’s my phone. It’s rubbish. And I’m rubbish with it. And jump to conclusions. We all do. ‘Tis why people wrote-off the likes of Ars after 4 games, and may yet get their asses bitten off. How easy would you have thought it to be if suggested in August that we would finish above Ars, ‘Pool and Chelsea? You’d stick at finishing above two of them. And we probably will. And but for the last two games we were actually THE outside bet for the title, and yet there’s much concentration on the negatives. Is there a Prem club which HASN’T been spanked by 4 or 5 this season? 4 defeats in 25? Sometimes you have to take it on the chin and stick together. NEVER booing at foottie games isn’t peaking, is it? Sometimes they NEED a kick up the ass. And most [especially younger] footballers will spend more time on-line potentially reading criticisms than they’ll spend getting boo’d on the pitch. QF @ 3 Most big games out of the run in. They say ONE person can will something to happen… Be positive. Even in tough times look for that. More articles that if the players did read, they would get a lift. Be proud. Moved. Want to repay us. In the [un?] likely? scenario that the lads read or get told the criticisms on-line, what effect does that have? It’s been a good season although the last week has left us all a bit flat. Come on, Harry, you must’ve had a shocker of a game? Allow it. Especially on the back of the run we’ve had. We played well against Utd. How many take them on like we do? Wasn’t tactics, was it? Just playing at 90, 95% rather than 99%. Fergie feels they’re about to kick ass. Stevenage, despite still fielding a strong side, we made enough key changes to make it a challenge for those out there against the pumped-up hopefuls, who got some early luck which our lot over-turned by the end. He is a chancer. Clearly resting a few and stuffing a game into some others. The cup would be lovely, the romance… But I think it’s the CL that’s important if we’re to stand any chance of keeping our hero’s. If not just to afford them.

I must disagree wholeheartedly I’m afraid. Believe me, I can get pretty irritated by one pillock in particular, but it’s his opinion after all and has every right to express it however incredulous or ridiculous that may be (Voltaire)..keep battering away and don’t let the The Miserable Whinging No-Nothings get you down ;-)

      • Billy Legit says:

This pillock that irritates you so much……….i’ll take a wild stab in the dark, and forgive me if i’m wrong, but it wouldn’t happen to be TMWNN by any chance would it? :-)

  • Paul says:

Well ‘H’, I agree with much of what you said. My particular disappointment is Kranc – lots of skill but no pace and can’t handle the aggression needed. I would have loved to see Livermore from the beginning – he’s coming on very well. He’s serving an apprenticeship under Parker. one small point you can’t have ‘an anathema’ just anathema.
