We Gotta Sign Him

Good morning.

The Daily Seige Heil is reporting an impasse in the negotiations to secure the services of Adebayor. Allegedly we’re prepared to pay the old girl £100,000 a week. I do hope our illustrious medics were close by if and when Levy & Co. said they’d be prepared to sign of that one.

But is there a problem? Ade was on the telly last week, on ESPN in fact saying he knew that a financial sacrifice had to be made and that he was prepared to make it. Part *groans* of the piece is here, but he did continue and trot out some genuinely heart warming stuff about having come from nothing, he now had everything and he wanted to be happy. He was happy at Spurs.

So if the financials are a figment of some facista newspaper, the burning question is, ‘is he worth it?’

As a striker he been out performed the Midget Gem aka the boy Defoe; who has scored 2 more goals than him, despite making 3 fewer appearances.

So the cold hard facts say if anyone is to be first choice, if any frontman is to be on the top lolly then it’s Jermain. But that doesn’t stack up. If the problem with Adebayor is that he doesn’t score enough – and let’s face it 9 from 19 is hardly prolific –  then it’s one I can live with.

What he offers to the team beyond scoring himself is worth the money. He’s had a few duff games, which I’m sure he’s well aware of, but by and large his contributions every match have been immense.

Everyday pro’s and cons? He’s unselfish no matter where he is on the park. I get the distinct impression when he plays a ball be it on the half way line or across the other lot’s six yard line he tries to make the most useful pass he can. His first touch has been a little ropy on occasion, but by contrast he is rarely flagged offside, he rarely concedes free kicks… he clearly has a rigorous dental hygiene programme…

The bottom line is that he is a gifted, intelligent team player with an excellent  Europe wide footballing pedigree and we should go all out to snap him up.

Defoe is a different player. And if Arry or whoever is managing us next season can swing it we need JD to remain as a cameo. This is going to sound patronising no matter how I word it, but in a nutshell…

In 20 minutes from Jermain we get a condensed version of him across 90. He’s the very definition of a super sub. He zips out like a heat seeker. Single minded and frequently close to unstoppable. Over 90 minutes I’m struggling to recall when we last saw such an impact.

Defoe and Ade are both class acts in their way. Both occasionally frustrating. But if you want value, you sometimes gotta pay for it.

Why would we sign him, he is SHITTE!, maybe not shitte but far from prolific, his first touch is below average, should of scored against Chealsea, when he rounded the keeper but his first touch let him down, Berbatov is a better striker than Adebyor, and well worth 5 million My beloved Spurs create more chances than anyone in the prem yet there success in front of goal is poor, this is with the strikers we have, so why would we keep him,as you think it will be different next year , I truly believe if Spurs get an out and out goal scorer and keep the squad they have, they might just might challenge for the league next year, I feel Berbatov although not that player, would do us better paired with Defoe, after all when he played with Keane the goal ratio to chances was nearly doubled, please do not smash our wage structure to get him, if you are going to do that go out and get a top top striker in front of goal

Can we please get a striker with some brains? Huntelaar’s run off the ball to drag the defenders away from Robben for the Dutch goal against England was class and then of course there was the goal he scored as well. Cavani has also been hugely impressive with his movement and work rate whenever I have seen him play. If those two are not an option then there surely must be an intelligent lone striker playing in another league that our scouts can find. Ade is a good option but I would like a great option or a better value for money option.

Have to respectfully disagree Harry. I think 170 grand is expensive for what’s on offer and I wonder if the fact that we’ve had no one up front of real class or goalscoring prowess since……Klinsman?! is maybe causing us to view above average as world class because he’s in a Spud shirt. Don’t get me wrong, I’d keep him at 75 to 100 thou but for the money he’s currently on I believe ‘Arry is capable of finding 2 striker/goalscorers good enough to improve us. That said, I appreciate it’s a difficult task (so don’t ask me for suggestions) but I have faith in ‘Arry.

    Thought this was interesting:

There was only one business left standing in the way of Tottenham Hotspur’s proposed £400 million stadium redevelopment. Last week, however, the Haringey Council agreed to buy the land belonging to Archway Sheet Metal Works, allowing Spurs to go forward with their plans for a new 56,000 seat stadium.

The sheet metal company was the only business in the redevelopment area that had yet to handover its land to the club as part of the Northumberland Development Project.

The Haringey Council also voted to handover council-owned land in the redevelopment area to Tottenham Hotspur. Under the plans, a proportion of the Wingate Trading Estate, in High Road, owned by the council, will also be transferred to the club. In addition, Spurs will also gain ownership of Paxton Road and Bill Nicholson Way.

Things seem to be moving along slowly but surely for Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium. With the investment from the Haringey Council and the City of London it seems more and more certain than ground may actually be broken on this new stadium in the next year or so.

So, the very best players/silly wages might not be that far away?

    Nice work as usual Harry

    Go on the Spurs.

If Defoe would be happy as a super-sub, then I’d be happy to have him at Spurs for the foreseeable.
Dunno what to think about Adebayour, I’ve enjoyed having him on our side, EPIC against the toon.
I’d like to see Demba Ba at the lane, but I think he’s probably quite happy where he is and possibly will accept an improved contract.
I definitely see us taking a punt on a foreigner this summer, if the club moves into a healthy position.
So I guess we’d better hope that what we got is good enough to accomplish that, before we get too carried away.
