Hallo.

Based upon a lengthy conversation I had with a fellow Yidologist, Mr Martin Crawford PLC …forget garlic bread. Here’s the future. Or at the very least a hopefully rather compelling argument for a good one.

One of the bugbears of the last campaign for lots and lots of people was the whole Gareth Bale free role fiasco. And so here’s a pretty interesting solution.

The start point is that you can’t legislate for lunatics. You know Bale has consistently done well on the left, I know Bale has consistently done well on the left. But Our absentee manager and the young man himself with his pursuit of his ‘vision’ seemingly cannot be told. When I say cannot be told, I don’t mean they fail to heed the advice of two bob bloggers, I mean there were two major instances of Spurs supporters watching live games singing this sentiment.

So, instead of moaning about it, let’s embrace and exploit the madness to THFC’s advantage!?

Bale’s primary negatives from the last season include his unwillingness to defend and his fixation with adopting a more central role. Agreed? Triffic. We’re on our way…

So let’s put him where he believes he needs to be. The boy has insane pace, great stamina, he’s better than good in the air and his runs at – whoever the other lot might be – cause mayhem. His accuracy on goal is ordinarily excellent and if he were settled in the central role suggested, it would surely only improve further.

The kernel of the ‘Bale problem’ as such has been that him drifting in has left us with Benny as a winger (a position for which he wasn’t hired for; nor is he qualified to do) and congested.

The answer is Adam Johnson. The guy is class act and one that would be a great fit for us. A talented player who would be well worth the paltrey £10m – £15m that would probably secure his services.

With this man on the wing, the Bale ‘vision’ would not just be indulged in an Ad hoc manner but be properly supported and could be translated into 20+ goals a season.

Bale could well fulfill his ambitions with us. But that won’t happen without us a thinking, embracing and manipulating matters to our advantage. I think this is a plan. BIOYC!

Been saying this for a long time, the lads wasting his time sitting on the bench the city. He would play every week for us. Plus it would give us an added bonus that if or when bales little push up front or into the middle fails he’ll have some competition on the wing. Johnson can play on the right or the left, something which bale or lennon aren’t capable of. He’ll be a great addition to the team along with another CB and striker I’m really looking forward to next season. Also we should take a punt on the lad Rhodes from Huddersfield, he’ll be relativley cheap. seen him many times and he can score for fun, could start him in the cups and then progress him through to the starting 11 in the league.

Bizarrely, I think redknapp allowed bale the free role to ward off Barcelona by proving that he wouldn’t naturally fit into their system.

I’m not sure about building the team around a 22 y.o who’s already piping talk of a move to Barca! We’ve got alot of talent that want to play at the club… vdv sandro da hud….. Bale is best on the left end of. If he goes to Barca are they gonna say play were you want?!?! no he’ll be a wing back

hh doing what he always does best hitting loose balls over the boundary and into the car park love it

Johnson is quite overrated, a typical Match of the Day player… over 90 minutes you get about 10 minutes hard work out of him. Mancini has tried to get him to work harder but he just ain’t listening so was dropped.

I ask in peace , what do you mean by, ‘a typical Match of the Day player’ ?

      • John says:

I mean he gives you a few highlights per game but over 90 minutes you’re left frustrated by how little he contributes. He hugs the touchline and is reluctant to track back or search for the ball. And when he does get the ball, he’s actually not very fast and a lot of full-backs have sussed him out. He’s most productive as a sub in the last 20 minutes when opposing teams are on their last legs, he has a good long shot on him and is a good finisher, but overall he’s not really better than Aaron Lennon.

Couldn’t agree more john, when he’s on right u always know hel come inside onto his left, only plays in short bursts & gives ball away to much. In fact I’d rate milner as better than him at least he will work hard & can hit a good cross but I still wouldn’t go for him.
Bale would only work in a 3 man cm or in vdv position with a wingers with pace like eljero elia then they can swap positions as much as they like once the shape is kept but it would mean vdv would have to be dropped or play cm, I’d bring in elia & play him wide right instead of lennon & change the formation to 1-3-1-3-2.
Verthongen as sweeper 3cb of caulker kaboul walker, sandro dm then a 3 of Elia vdv bale & Ade & a poacher striker like javier hernandez I’d only play that formation at home though sign someone like Joe Allen & play him away from home in cm with sandro with 1 upfront.
