To All The Brain Surgeons Happy Finishing Fourth

Wotcha.

I keep reading comments from awfully well meaning types this morning saying that at the beginning of the season they would have taken fourth.

Wow. How noble. But more to the point, what a really odd thing to say.

In isolation, finishing fourth is a good thing – no; an excellent thing. Champions League football and peck on the cheek from the Prom Queen. So what if another team outside the top four wins the Champions League and nudges us out? What are the odds?! You can’t legislate for crazy, madcap things like that happening. Can you?

Well you can.

Because this finish wasn’t in isolation to anything. To assert otherwise is insane. Not optimistic, not naive but just common or garden bonkers.

Given that Spurs weren’t struck down with any season wrecking injuries or suddenly faced teams that revolutionised football the flushing of the 10+ point advantage is why we’re all now nervously making pro Bayern noises.

Some of you can’t cope with the reality of the situation. You’re the same lemmings that haven’t noticed that since he’s run out of exit doors that Arry has started calling us, ‘us’ again and not referring to us in the third person.

What happened to this Club this season is nothing shy of scandalous.

And now we have the rogue playing the health card as many do when they’ve run of legitimate reasons why people should bother paying them any attention.  He’s saying he might not got to the Euros with the BBC because of his trials and tribulations. Ooh my heart, ooh me tax case. Ooh naff off you chancer.

“I want Bayern to beat Chelsea, whether Frank plays or not.

“He knows there’s no love lost. My allegiance is Tottenham only. I want Tottenham in the Champions League next year.

Err…

“I’ll be rooting for Chelsea I want to see an English team win it anyway and I think they can do it.”

Arry Redschnapps April 21st 2012

“If people get carried away with what Tottenham should achieve, they need a reality check.”

Arry, the only reality check people want is the THFC Board to replace you with one of those orange Keepon things off the EDF advert …or something equally competent.

For one moment, I thought I stood alone in hoping the lovable rogue would get the England job, or any job other than managing my beloved Tottingham !

He needs to clear his locker and do what Sandra says and stay put in Sand banks (she’s the reason he didn’t get the England job dont you know ? )

The club, needs to find someone who can coach set pieces.. 135 corners 2 goals ! A manager who has something more in his locker than just run around… someone who isn’t so tactically inept as Sandra, someone, a trained chimp perhaps that can put a round peg in a round hole….

Not sure I have the ideal replacement.. Maybe Brendon Rogers… his team does play good football and we Tottingham fans do have an appreciation for that….. Dont we ?

At the start of the season I would have been happy to finish 1st….anything else is failure.

So, we’ve failed for 128 out of 130 years, is that what you’re saying?

In which case, it’s a miracle we’ve got a club, let alone any supporters, at all!!! :D

I find it hard t ocelebrate 4th given the oh so comfortable posistion we were in.

Atleast we finished above the chavs but even that could count for nothing!

Gutted how we threw it away.

I’d like to take more positives than negatives out of this season. For a large portion of it, Spurs were a total joy to watch. It’s hard to find excuses for the bad run we went on and some of the tactics (Norwich at home etc) were mystifying. Funny to feel disappointed about finishing 4th – I do – but looking back I’ve been entertained and my season ticket was worth every penny.
As for Jack Wilshere wetting his panties about the prospect of a racist holding up the Champions League trophy – just glad the players I support have more class.

Heah hear about Wilshire, basically taking the pi55 out of his fellow professionals, No calss

      • Parklaner says:

        Class, even

      • GoonerDave says:

I assume you would say the same about VdV, Bale etc.? They had plenty to say too during the season.
Or is it just banter when your players do it?
        Grow up.

        • Parklaner says:

We’d like to finish above Arsenal, was about all I heard come from our players. They never referred to you as ‘that lot down the road’ as some of your players have.
          No Class

Mate you’ve not got a leg to stand on. Even the Woolwich fans i know, drink with and ,begrudgingly, admire admit he has shown a severe lack of respect, marurity and class with his last few posts.

Finishing 4th is a real disappointment considering how well we were playing and how many points we had in hand at one stage of the season. However, finishing 4th is also a great achievement considering our start to the season on the back of the Modric transfer BS and everything else that has happened this season – heart attacks, tax cases, FA interference, appalling refereeing decisions (yes we have had more than our fair share!), etc. So you have take a balanced view and say yes it is disappointing but being disappointed with 4th is good :-)

ps Oh and the goons celebrating finishing above us by a point as if they have actually won something for change warms the cockles doesn’t it? COYS!!!!!!

      joy- someone talking some sense

      • Chazer says:

Thank you for talking some sense.

This is all being presented as two sides of an argument, but being disappointed and realistic, viewing it both from our perspective at the start of the season and from our perspective now, are not mutually exclusive things. The truth of the matter is that all of these are fair points.

The main thing is how to move forward. Some say sack Harry, some say stick, think what he’s done for us and how far we’ve come. Again, I’d say that we are disappointed with his obvious shortcomings and if a definitively better option is available then sure, upgrade, but be careful not to ‘do a Wolves’ and think the grass is greener without thinking it through.

The eponymous Harry Hotspur does indeed suggest an alternative, Capello, but to me it would be a pretty big gamble. Short of Mourinho, anyone would be. Well, it comes down to Levy to make that call, but I don’t think we can be too vehement if he sticks with Harry as I’m not sure there’s an easy solution despite my frustrations with the old codger.

One thing I would say though. Harry always talks about the need for leaders on the pitch. In my eyes, we have to at least set our sights, realistically or not, on 1st, otherwise the mindset is wrong and we’re asking to be losers. Look at Drogba at Chelsea, a right twat at times, but I respect him and I can’t imagine him ever being happy with fourth (or sixth) and our players shouldn’t be either. But they should be determined to stick at Spurs and become winners.
