Positively AVB

Good evening.

At this stage if Andreas Villas Boas isn’t unveiled as our new supremo very very shortly I’ll be genuinely shocked. So as we mark time I thought it would be helpful to have a discussion about the man.

Now I don’t mean a happy clapper fest – I mean what would you base that upon? Rather a consideration of what you feel he could bring to the party.

For me he’s the right man for the job for some very simple reasons. He has a CV. You can sneer at it, but it to deny he’s of a certain pedigree isn’t being entirely honest. It’s sneering for sneering’s sake.

Once you discount the Chelsea fiasco it makes compelling reading. And discount the Chelsea fiasco you must. John Terry & his grotesque gang undermining his every move to one side and the interfering mother in law picking the team for him on the other.

Boas apprenticed in his trade beneath distinguished masters. Sir Bobby Robson was evidently impressed by him. Jose Mourinho made him his permanent wing man from Porto to Chelsea to Internazionale. He speaks English fluently.

Some of you will naturally want to compare and contrast the guy with others. Can just I say at this point that when you do this you’re perfectly entitled to express an irrational contempt. But it will be a dull blog if it is plagued with fortune tellers, seers and other assorted two bob soothsayers.

To prevent your contributions looking uninformed or thoughtless, you might just wish to expand upon why you believe that we’ll a) watch all our players hand in transfer requests and b) return to the dark days of Santini…

As I said repeatedly during my campaign to get rid of that last chancer, I can cope with poor results. I can cope with no Champions League. I’m not a child. But what I can’t tolerate are stupid people and untrustworthy people.

This is an industry all about results, but equally I want to see Spurs exploit a cracking squad and play to a standard that matches our pride. I want to see the boys managed with insight, intelligence, passion and wit.

I think this chap’s just the ticket for the task.

The Facebook guy HH linked to the other has has a bit more:

    http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/75319800569/

the source is quite good and not at all prone to shooting off their mouth, a close relation of a close relation and involved at thfc since 99. what I understand to be decided is this; Vertonghen will be signed regardless of any other transfers but Levy is tight and Vertonghen has 13 months left on his contract and has told Ajax that he is perfectly happy to wait until January when Ajax will get 4m for him or even until next year when he can leave for free. The Belgian himself has no wish for Ajax to get nothing for the patience and dedication they have shown toward him and his family over the last 10 years but he has been sold on an idea at Tottenham and it is only they whom he will sign for. What I might add here is that in Vertonghen, we are signing a player of the calibre of a Jaap Stam/Sol Campbell/LEDLEY KING! calibre of player, he is far, far, far too good for the Dutch league and there is widespread comment that he has barely had to play at more than 70% over the past 2 seasons yert Ajax have won the championship in consecutive seasons. It is a good sign re: transfer polcy. The Huntelaar thing is pure speculation based on some sort of evidence I assume, I do not know what. He is available from Schalke for 17m, he was purchased from AC Milan for 13, there is a sell on in place which was handed over to S04 by AC Milan who had in been previously handed the clause by Real Madrid who had signed Huntelaar from Ajax. Levy possibly sees an alternative bargaining position. Spurs need a striker, Levy is not an idiot and he knows this. Huntelaar would join Spurs in a heartbeat, the premier league is where it is at for the dutch, especially those of indigenous heritage. What I know s this; Board members shall be in Holland today. And they are there on Spurs business. Tim Sherwood’s contract expires in July just as the training facility opens, he has long been pencilled in for a far more involved role at the club, he has been part time for the pas4 12 months or so, he was appointed not by Redknapp but on the recommendation of Alex Inglethorpe and he immediately impressed with both his skills as a coach and as an administrator, his strength is not considered by the board to be in his coaching but in his footballing vision. Levy is very keen on the DoF system and sees Sherwood as an ideal candidate. I think the AVB thing is solid too but of course, you never know. As I have said, the source is good and not prone to gobbing off. I have had a few tips in the past from here, they have all been good.

Oh yes another thing. On Wednesday, when Redknapp was getting sacked he and Levy barely even spoke, they were not even in the same room, HR had two agents and a lawyer, blatantly prepared for the boot. His fate has been set in stone for some time, at least 3 months (around the time of the defeat at Arsenal really) Interestingly, there was video link system set up as well…

That is chilling. Thanks again, SSG :daumen:

Ok, ok, so what you’re telling us is Vertonghen is the result of a gangbang involving Sol, Jaap, and our boy Ledley… (shudder) and he, for some reason’s got is heart set on playing for us! Then why, oh why is Levy, talking about picking him up next year? This ain’t a Plasma TV! What sort of message is that giving to Vertonghen?

  • robbie says:

well i thought AVB and Vertonghen was going to get announced yesterday let me down again HH!!

  • Habib says:

I think he’s bloody perfect. But will the players give him a chance?!

    • Harry Hotspur says:

They’ll do as they’re bloody well told is the correct answer to that question Habib ;-)

      • John says:

Lol u live in cookoo land mate tatics tatics all keep hearing u can have tatics to the cows come home if players don’t get on with him there not going to give hundred percent and for u to write there do as there told how old do u think they are live in a different planet didn’t want Harry to go has so got move on levy got to get his head out his own back side and this rep of being the big man that holds out for a deal no good for the club they want prime steak but want to pay stringy bacon money

    • koko61 says:

      That is my worry.

  • Gopher-Spain says:

I would go with AVB, maybe prefer Blanc but I doubt that will happen.
We must be prepared to give him and the rest of the staff time to implement the clubs plans. Won’t happen overnight and the press will be out for blood after their poodle was disposed of.
