When the fox hears the rabbit scream he comes a-runnin’… but not to help

Good morning.

The Mirror run with an interesting piece this morning. Maybe it’s hogwash, after all Goal.com decided to turn the ‘gone by the weekend’ ITK fever on message boards into ‘crunch talks on Friday’.

My guess is that it isn’t hogwash as such, rather the Arry camp having a pretty futile go at trying to boost the old cove’s stock. Their original plan to play the, ‘Chelsea are interested card’ became increasingly unbelievable the more obvious it became in the press that Abramovich only had eyes for Guardiola.

It comes as a Middle East consortium has put together a financial package to try and tempt Redknapp to a job in Qatar.

Redknapp was sounded out last year by a Middle East club, and the Mirror understands there is fresh interest because they feel they may now be able to lure him away.

The 65-year-old fears there is an element at White Hart Lane who may want a change of manager, despite last season’s impressive campaign.

The silence from Redschnapps since the close of the season has been chilling. talkSPORT have resorted to talking calls from members of the public. At the very least this shows Levy & Co. that this plonker’s mind is always on anything other than Tottenham.

Io fei gibetto de le mei case.

    Hi,
I think ‘Arry’s on holiday and as he does not know how to use any modern technology(stopped in 1975)I think that he has either run out of credit on his mobile phone and does not know how to put it on or if he has a contract phone (more likely) paid by THFC and they have scrapped the contract.
As for everything else I thought our professional politicians were bad enough but the football business is just as bad i.e corruption/greed everywhere – kiss the badge – kiss my arse more like

Dear God! There’s more doom n gloom on this site than a scot on Dads Army! Valium anyone?

    Come on you lot!!!

You ALL KNOW that we wont have a new manager until the season is about to start and when the managerial bin is virtually empty and all the good young manangers taken.

Levy doesn’t even wake up until August starts…okay metaphorically perhaps but in terms of transfers damn near correct.

    Guten Morgen!

After a long enforced absence breaking rocks in the gulag of new parenthood, I’ve been given temporary access to the internet and the money for a cab into town. Hello all!!!!

The little lady (Astro Jnr. not Harry the big girl) is doing brilliantly and I’m having a wonderful time. I’ve also been rather shoulder & wheel at work and things starting to go swimmingly on that front too.

Sadly, the same can’t be said for our beloved old girl in N17 and the rather shocking end to last season has shone a bit of a light on goings on at Totteringham Towers.

Those of you that know me will know that I was firmly pro-continuity after years of revolving door management policies at the club. I wanted Redknapp given the chance to build something and felt that he’d earned that right. His idea of grasping the nettle however seems to have more grasp in it than most and not enough nettle, and time seems to be right to say auf wiedersehen.

In a parallel world he is right to say that 4th is a great achievement for a club with our budget. However, that wouldn’t be to take into account the tools at his disposal or the weakness of the opposition around him… Or indeed the position the he himself managed to get us to.

When we found ourselves chasing down second with a head of steam based mainly on unity in the dressing room, he was the first to crack. There can be absolutely no doubt that his attention wavered and that he started to believe his own hype that he was a shoe-in for England. There can also be little doubt that seasoned professionals in the dressing room sensed this.

Even with that, I would say that there would still be potential for Redknapp to do the job at Tottenham IF (and this was the big if for me), he showed some contrition for what had happened and put his hands up to taking his eye off the ball. Sadly, he seems to have ploughed firmly on with his deluded self-opinion and the back me or sack me stand-off shows very little respect for the fans that backed him during the case.

For me, to still regard last season as a ‘success’ after blowing a 10 point gap on a very poor Ar5ena1 and missing out on the CL when the ticket was openly in our own hands with 2 games to go, shows an underlying lack of ambition… And a lack of belief in his own abilities.

I can handle a run of bad form, it happens. I can handle us losing places in the league or missing out on CL, I’m a big boy and have been through enough seasons of Andy Sinton-esque mediocrity to not act like a spoilt kid… But I’m also big enough to know sour milk when I taste it and won’t be told it’s cream.

Another problem was highlighted by a different blogger (Sorry HH) when he said that season’s under Redknapp all seem to be stop-gaps, all make-do-and-mend with no long term plan. The whole point of continuity is that there is a plan and frankly Saha and co. aren’t it. We need to build for the future and I’m happy to forgo another year or two in the Europa for somebody to build a long-term dream at our club.

I think a long-term strategy with someone like Moyes, given a brief to work with say Sherwood as a longer term replacement (Allowing Moyes to go to Utd later) would maybe get us to the place where we can invest in the squad sensibly with good young players and still have the money to develop the stadium and infrastructure. I just don’t see that opportunity with Redknapp any more.

Thanks for all the sterling work HH over the last 6 months. Will be back a bit more often I hope! Love to all!

Can’t believe no one has suggested this before. What an inspired idea. Welcome back Astro, you’ve been sorely missed.

Congrats on the new arrival Astro- and you have been missed!
      logic personified!

    • LosLorenzo says:

Good to hear from you again ol’ girl. As sensible and balanced as ever.

    • Devonshirespur says:

“A Very Poor Arsenal Side” who amounted as many points as Spurs did in our record EPL season in 09/10….70 points is not the sign of a bad team….unless you describe our 2009/10 as a very poor side.

Everyone bangs on about a poor United side, when they bagged 89 points, a total they have only bettered once or twice in 20+ years.

We should have gained more points but it’s simply not that simple and every fan of every club bemoans needless points dropped, poor runs, missed chances.

There are many factors that influence our slump, not just Harry being distracted. You only have to look what happened to Utd when Fergie was going to retire at the end of the season, they went totally off the boil. Top class winners suddenly wondering more about next season than the here and now…it happens. Even to the best.

To simply say that Harry lost focus and Spurs slumped is child-like in it’s simplicity. I am not making excuses for him but a lot of shit happened this year which has derailed us. He is part of that, some decisions he made on the pitch are part of it, but for all the Villa and QPR games that people moan about, there are plenty others he and the team have done brilliantly.

As with any manager, if you can get someone better in then do it….all this talk of AVB, Klinsmann, Lambert et all is just bollox

      Welcome back, Astro!!

You have indeed been missed: a shining light of reason in an often murky fog of the irrational…

More importantly, glad to hear the littl’un’s been putting you through your paces: girls are officially “the best” ( – our second arrived in January and I haven’t slept, since then, which probably explains a lot of my recent comments on here, hahaha…)

      • david says:

Great to hear from you again Astro, was worried you had jumped ship and joined another blog!

We blew a great chance in the second half of last season and I think some of us are still struggling to come to terms with it.

      • Astromesmo says:

Thank you all. My doctor said I was level-headed because I dribbled out of both sides of my mouth at the same time.

You’re not wrong Alspur on fun with the little ‘un. The last 7 months have been an absolute joy and she just gets more and more entertaining every day. She’s been ‘baptised’ as well, getting her first taste of WHL at the Stevenage cup game!

Hopefully her Mum joining the fold as well as a member will ensure that we keep her on the path of righteousness and shield her from the evils of ‘Them over there’.

Would be nice to think that she’s going to be enjoying the nice new stadium, although at the pace we do things, we’ll just be having the groundbreaking as she sits her ‘A’ levels.

Welcome back astro we’ve missed ya.
Glad all is ok on the home life front.

    • el says:

      .
Congrats Astro. Perhaps every season being a stopgap has more to do with our having no serious chance of developing into a top club until our stadium is sufficient enough to pay the wages of the required players to be at that level proper, rather than due to any manager related issues? Just a thought.

Anyone who thinks we should stick with twitchy face is obviously a real risk taker in life… I bet your misses knows exactly what you’re gonna have every Sunday at the Toby Carvery. Every summer you spend at the same hotel in Magaluf and if possible sit in the same sun lounger drinking the same beer. Sex is only missionary and Friday night is always fish & chips night. Do yourselves a favour, live a little…. go on I dare ya!! Untuck that jumper from your jeans, open your window and scream ‘I’M A SPURS FAN AND I’M NOT GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE…..’ No? Didn’t think so….. Better stick to the Toby Carvery then…. at least you know exactly what quality you’ll be enjoying every Sunday……….
