An Ode To The King

So farewell then Ledley Breton King

You gave us your all …your everything.

A callow youth debuted for us in 1996

Was even then a thoroughbred with wily tricks.

Cut from Captain cloth from head to toe

We prayed that you would never go.

But no one knew what was to be

Blighted by that bloody knee.

Your training regime was quite unique

A dozen laps in Levy’s pool – sometimes twice a week.

But this isn’t goodbye old pal, just au revoir

We need you as our Ambassad0r.

If I remember right Ledley didn’t play our first 2 games last season and the only point dropped by Xmas was to Newcastle in a 1-1 draw. Even then Ledley was substituted by the time they scored…….just how the guy managed all that considering his physical state was a feat of endurance. I am delighted Ledley is remaining at the Club and hope his experience and example can inspire others. Proud to have supported a true Tottenham Legend.

Bought my first Spurs shirt after watching Ledders, started playing CB after watching Ledders, was lucky enough to meet him once a while back. Was my Mackay/Mabbutt/Perryman, loved to watch him eat up the ground on strikers.

Tis a sad day, but he’ll be around! Ambassador King, has a nice ring to it :daumen:

    .
In his pomp and fully fit, Ledley was the best centre back of his era, anywhere. I’d also put him in the best ten centre backs of all eras.

He joins the best names of the double side in terms of quality.

A rare breed & King indeed.
