Bill Shears’ Letter To André Villas Boas

Good afternoon.

This from long time HH reader Bill and well worth publishing.

Dear Sir,

We wake the other morning to the news that for us, Tottenham Hotspur, the Premiership Title is no-longer a just a fanciful dream or the domain of those with the budget to take seriously.  This should now become our target and with increased commitment and resources winning it will soon become our main objective.

It’s difficult to judge this news, as it has been reported from half of those on the outside looking in that we are in hell at the moment.  We had the sh*t kicked out of us at the end of last season by anyone with a properly prepared team.  We lost our place in the Champions League and we finished with a squad of players who barely the resembled the same team that were put out six months earlier.

There is no momentum to ride off from the tail end of the campaign.  So if you are going to lead us back into the light, then you need to do so from a standing start. This has got to happen on the training field, in the dressing room and in the minds of the players.

I believe that it can be done and from what I have seen and heard so far I believe that you can do it.  But now you have to convince the players.

Train them or trade them.  Now is the time.  Do not flinch from doing what it takes.

Unlike the other lot; we want you to weed out the individual who puts their own ambition above that of the club.  We encourage you change the mind set. We understand the merits of a new approach.  And we are prepared to see this thing through.

AVB this is our club.  We give it you in good faith – return it to us as Champions.

Good luck, you’ll need it.

Kind Regards,

Bill Shears

Triffic, recognised most of the Jurors, all from Hackney, send in the clowns m’lud, send in the clowns m’lud, send him down m’lud.
Mr Terry I sentence you to 4 years at Barnet and may the Lord have mercy on your soul, take him down officer.
      But I ain’t done nuffink, honest !

    • To do that you would have to cut out the figures, draw, write the lyrics, compose the music, create the story, film the event all the while finding 10 jury members (on paper that is) who had never seen a football match and who have a neutral opinion whether players should take their shirts off after scoring.
I think if you get it all right (did you do it Harry?)You should be writing Broadway musicals.
Its not bad for an off Battersea musical.

The future is bright. The future is Tottenham.

Looking at all the recent headlines, I am so proud of what this club is doing because it has all been done through honest hard graft, without the benefit of a 60,000+ seater stadium, or a sugar daddy, or being bought on the cheap by the Yanks.

The only obvious doubt is Lucre, but with the acumen of AVB and DL, I have a feeling that for £40 mill, they will bring in 2-3 decent replacements for him. I don’t want to see him go, but I think that with our current midfield squad, the best in depth in the PL, we can afford to let him go.

Now I think that all that is missing is Huntelaar and another CB that won’t fall to bits like an MFI reject following a meaningless friendly, and the only question remaining is, who will be joining us and the Mancs in next years CL.

I know we are Spurs and that the start of each season brings attacks of unrealistic expectations, while we wait for the window to close, but as I speak, there are 49 days left and so far we have signed Vertigo and Siggy, and now the word is that ADE will become permanent for £6 Mill!!!!!!!!!.

One of these days, Levy is going to get arrested for taking advantage of the mentally defective, but until then, I see him as N17’s answer to Robin Hood. Seeing the rich being robbed was never so much fun.

Every year at this time I feel the optimism of the following season. This time, I think I may be suffering realism.

  • Sao Paulo Spurs says:

Nice post. I agree with most of it.
AVB needs a good start. All new managers do, but it’s even more important for him. Spurs fans are slated in the press for being fickle and lacking loyalty. I think this is nonsense. We always get behind players and managers, because we want them to be successful. Why wouldn’t we?
I hope we get our core team settled as soon as possible. I don’t like it that Modric wants to go but i’ll be glad to see him leave. We need a settled side. AVB needs as much preparation time as possible. I hope Levy has learnt his lessons from last season and we can put out our best team out from day one.
I’m really excited to see how we will line up against Newcastle, i’m guessing we will look something like this:

    Loris
    Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, BAE
    Sando, Parker
    Lennon, Gylfi, Bale
    Adebayor

    COYS

    • I prefer Kaboul to Dawson
I would put in Defoe up top as with Ade moving around as Adebayor can also feed the ball through

    • Razspur says:

Try substituting Caulker for Dawson , Siggy takes Lennons spot with Moutinho in support of striker.

    • Sao Paulo,I guess there is no chance of Damaio?

      • Sao Paulo Spurs says:

It looks like he will stay in Brazil. There is more money in Brazilian football these days. More players like: Neymar are staying until at least 2014. He does look good tho’…

        • Sao Paulo,Sandro came and I think they know each other quite well.If he came he would at least be showcased,in the PL which ups the price for the future (granted and sometimes not)
Anyway it would be good. Looks like though we have turned our attention to Adran from Athletico Madrid

    • Stupot says:

VAN DE VAART AHEM. Do not write the masterfull dutchman off please. IMHFO HE SHOULD BE OUR CAPTAIN

  • Razspur says:

Siggy does like a strong cuppa with 2 Digestives.

  • Razspur says:

Seems the Porto clause is pricing Moutinho in the Modric class, yes he is a huge talent but as yet unproven in the Premier League, I think they are inflating the price because it’s us in pole position, £25m now with a further £5m when he plays 50 EPL Games and 20% of any sell-on Profit, take it or leave it. Adrian for £16m sounds like a bargain.
