Some Particularly Plausible Snippets

Good morning.

After the Charlie Adam blog and dealing the moronic …the caption comp was just the tonic. Thank you.

Some cracking stuff from Freeeki on Spurs Community then.

  • Zeki Fryers to Spurs has been completed for a while, not sure why it isn’t on OS but in my source’s words “Sir Alex was taking the p*ss” offering him £1900 per week. Daniel offered £10k so it was a no brainer. 18 months ago he thought the guy was gonna get released but came in to his own last season and reckons he’s gonna be big news.
  • He also said similar to others about Adebayor – fee agreed, terms agreed with Spurs, sticking point is negotiating a leaving package with City. As far as Ade’s concerned, if City want rid that badly they should honour what’s left of his contract in the form of a donation to his charity.
  • (non-THFC) Edin Dzeko back in training with MCFC and doesn’t look like he’s off anywhere which would suggest Ade is definitely going. He doesn’t think SAF is interested in Van Persie, more trying to make a tit out of City. Doesn’t think SAF would pay upwards of £220k for a 29-yr-old.
  • (different source) Berbatov’s attitude is getting United squad down, definitely off but doesn’t know where to but said Spurs definitely not looking to take him back. He reluctantly went on tour with them but didn’t want to be there. Doesn’t seem to be too popular among the squad or staff (surprise surprise).

Taking rising stars off United is an interesting twist. It seems like they, and Arsen*l have gone some ways done the Portsmouth road for their previous successes and are paying for it now.

United have the begging bowl out in the States with their new share offer, while the Goons are relying on the ex-gooner chairman of Man Citeh, Brian Marwood, paying top dollar for their out of contract players, to stay afloat.

United will get their funding and will always be up there, but with Chavski 6th, Pool 8th and a 17 point gap between the Mancs and the Scum, there is definitely a freefall going on in the old ‘Big 4’.

Time for some new blood to step in. Who better?

Seriously. Would any of u take a 3million pay cut(if reports are to be believed) to move to a new job? Yes 100g a week and an attractive signing in fee (5m) is not inconsiderable. However y should he take that much of a cut in wages. Players don’t play for nothing, for the love of the club or for any other misrepresented passion for the game. We who love football don’t put all our time into football for “love of the game.” No! Most of us, apart from a total lack of footballing ability, could not afford to play football and train twice a day for nothing.

The reality is: football generates huge amounts if money, mostly because fans want to see the Ronaldos, Zidanes, the Maradonas and of course the Peles(those last three retired of course) of this world. The sad fact is, that players of that ability do not come around every day and therefore are highly sought after by all. That means the club that has the fortune to have them has a better chance of success, both in and off the pitch. Great for the fans etc but this comes at a price. Greater success, merchandise sales etc etc etc. the short of it is that clubs making huge amounts of cash from these players must accept that the players must have a cut proportionate to their contribution. They are not the stupid, brainless cretins some would like us to believe. They are intelligent and those who aren’t have agents who are. So, what should we expect. Pay them nothing maybe.

Point is he is being overpaid as are all the City players, this makes the job of dispatching them very difficult for Marwood. No one else (Chelski excluded) can afford the wages. Players leaving City just have to take a wage cut. End off.

      • LLL says:

Either that or the player can make City pay them out of their contract. If City give them the contract they shouldn’t be too disturbed when players try and make them honour it.

    • Eton Trifle says:

I for one would support a wage cap in football. Will never happen due to restriction
of trade etc. but it would be interesting to see what players went where if they were always going to get the same money…

      • Justin"SydenhamYid" says:

Yes I agree with that. Also limit the amount of players a club can actually have as pros. That way the talent would be spread around a bit more. However it would be very difficult for so called in fashionable clubs to break into the elite. Paying big wages allows smaller clubs to compete at the highest level.

        • Justin"SydenhamYid" says:

The problem is that reality is in action. If players didn’t get the wages someone else would. It all amounts to the same thing then. Those at the top getting most. The real providers of the show getting nothing. As unpalatable as it may seem, at least the money is going to the performers.

      • Gary B says:

The only problem with a wage cap is they’ve tried it before and the bigger clubs got around it with brown envelopes, cars, houses etc. Nowadays it would be offshore accounts in your dog’s name.

A better way would be to reinstate an independant FA with directions to spread the Sky TV money across all the leagues, including grassroots football. The top clubs would not then have the ‘silly money’ to throw around.

But that would mean disbanding the Premier League Board, who were put in by the big clubs just so they could keep all the money for themselves.

        Not going to happen.

    • Spurlative says:

Winston Bogarde stayed at chelski after refusing to leave the club. He was simply on good wages, and played the rest of his days with the youth squad until his contract ran out. he would actually commute EVERY day from holland to london and back for training.
      so its happened before…

Bloggers are getting tetchy. Mind you when the ‘plausible snippets’ aren’t plausible it makes for tetchy bloggers.

  • Astro Spur says:

If it does finally come off, getting Ade back would be great, but what concerns me is how badly we need another quality striker. It’s unlikely that we will pay top dollar for a Cavani or the like, so who could we get that is affordable, wants to come to Tottenham, and is still good enough to push us on to a consistent top 3 or 4 level?

    • Justin"SydenhamYid" says:

I agree mate. I think we are ok in midfield. We are far from ok up top. I think we need to take something of a gamble. Ok some players are beyond us. But some are not. But we still have to pay big money on players who are more of a prospect than proven. A few brasilians recently mentioned. Problem is: we dawdle. Now it lolls like chelsea have signed Oscar. For 20 million. That my seem like a gamble on an unproven player but it seems to be iuta best option in finding the type of striker we need. We just won’t pay for the Van Persies, Cavanies etc etc.

      • Astro Spur says:

We definitely wait too long with transfers, obviously i understand why financially, but in a lot of cases we mess up the transfer. For example Damiao looked like if had had stumped up decent money a year or two ago we would have got him. Now, i don’t think he would come to us unless we stumped up massive money, as there is a lot more interest for him.

        • Justin"SysenhamYid" says:

My point exactly mate. We sleep in all the time. Financially we can never compete with some other clubs but we could act far quicker.
Another point in relation to this. Whilst I do at times feel levy is a good business person, one who will do his best for the club and not make panic induced decisions there is a worrying side to that.

DL is somewhat stubborn when it comes to transfer fees. This is evident in the situation with Modric, and whilst it is reassuring to see that we can hold out for the right price, dL’s intransigence may not be a good thing. Ok, so we hold out to the end of the window for near 40 mil. We r short the players we need and doing business last minute. I feel this puts us at a great disadvantage. Clubs will know we are desperate for certain players and will give us a price which we will either pay or not. Now I’m no expert but if we don’t pay we will not get those players leaving us lacking the players we require. This will surely cause us to lose more than that extra 5 mil DL is holding out for. Wouldn’t it be better to get shot of rat boy and bring in the players we require now.

        • Daniel can be really clever at the finiancial side of things and always show good financial results. That is good and in the long run the club will always be stable.
But to be a winner you have sometimes to go one further and find where that line is where you even break your own rules to get to the next stage.
If the Modric deal finally gets wrapped up we will find out quickly how clever Levy has been.
From the Vertonghen deal startegy it seems that maybe he has worked the other players and clubs he wants already. If not he will have lots of pressure from the clubs that want to sell (we have seen it already somewhat) it will be interesting.
Hopefully he has made agreements already subject to Modric going for over 30 mil.

        • Justin"SysenhamYid" says:

          Re: Ronnie.
Hope ur correct in that mate. Wouldn’t like to get to the end of transfer window and b 40 mil richer and not able, or unwilling to pay for the players we require.
I’m assuming that AVB didn’t come just to make do with the current squad as thus would be inviting another failure. Hopefully DL has all in hand. Damiao

        • Justin"SydenhamYid" says:

Deal in the process of completion, moutinho in the offing? Let’s hope

        • Justin we all like to make messiahs of our heroes. Levy is astute but is he brilliant? We would like to think so.
Lets hope he has read everything well and has moved early to secure the players we need.
I am also watching, hoping and believing

      • essexian76 says:

By all accounts Oscar was on the verge of signing for us, until Chelsea came in and blew us out of the water-Big stadium or not, we’re not in a position to compete with Chelsea or City’s unlimited resources. Even Utd are struggling to cope with their debts and Arsenal’s coffers are hardly overflowing either!
For us to have a fighting chance, we have to gamble on possible’s rather than established superstars, who quite frankly are out of our reach, and unless FFP is effective (which I doubt), always will be.
