Moutinho Tale Takes An Interesting Twist

Good afternoon.

The name of João Filipe Iria Santos Moutinho has been doing the rounds for a while now. I think the most conventional report was in the Daily Star suggesting that a bid from the Tottinghams of some £20M had been lodged.

Just on the money side of things, the player comes with a history one could at best described as a near unfathomable mess. Try this quote from his Wiki page for size:

‘On 3 August 2011, Porto partnered with Soccer Invest Fund to buy back 37.5% of Moutinho’s economic rights. The private investment fund acquired 15% after the overall transactions, while Porto recouped 22.5% for €4 million.’

Anyway Pedro Pinto has Tweeted on the matter of the player joining Spurs (see below).

Pedro’s credentials/Wiki blurb is this: Pedro Pinto started his career with Caderno Diário where he was a sports anchor and editor for the Rádio Televisão Portuguesa show. Pinto used to anchor the program World Sports in CNN between 1998 and 2003, in Atlanta, Georgia. Back in Portugal he anchored the program Últimas Notícias on Sport TV. He is presently coordinating European Sports at CNN International. He also anchors the CNN World Sport show from London.

Having had a snoop about some foreign media, it’s clear that Pedro is out on his own on this one. That said, if he’s right he’s right and that’s an end to the matter.

If we manage to get Remy, Lloris and Moutinho in before the deadline then i think it’s hats off to Levy as for once, this transfer window has been a great success and should give us the best chance to have a great season. All we need to do then is ship out a few on loan and get rid of a few of the deadwood.

Deadwood= Jenas, Hudd, Bentley, Gomes and maybe Dawson

      • Frontwheel 2 says:

No chance Daws is off with Kaboul out for 4 months

        • Spur of the moment says:

          Caulker is ahead of Dawson

        • Frontwheel 2 says:

We still need him even if Caulker is ahead,in case of more injuries and Thursday footy

I can see AVB’s thinking. If you’re not good enough… If they’re not TOP English players they’re not gonna cut it at the level we aspire to. Daws is best in a team that plays two banks of four. Not one as attacking as we like to be. Hudds lots would, must even, build a team round, but the top4 wouldn’t. He’s not even our best midfielder. Lennon for all his pace demands ball to feet and does a lot of standing around, like he’s on a different wave-length or something. The old ‘yeah?, yeah? in a ‘fight’. Bentley’s done eff-all for 3 yrs or more. Even Jenas, alas… 1 in 3 Defoe. Our best players are not English. Bar King. Modric, Vdv, Ade, even Bale. Sandro. You’re better off fingering the rules and settling for less players in your squad than accommodating people for their nationality. Walker and Caulker look promising, mind. Arsenal and Chelsea don’t have anything other than top English players. We need to do the same.

You got me thinking there j

    • Woodsy says:

It’s an ambitious but realistic list that I’d be very happy with!

If we can sell one or more of Gomes, Bentley & JJ as well, this has been a truly spectacular window, despite leaving it all so late.

  • Sid Trotter says:

and what about Modric, Bentley, VdV, Jenas, lennon how are they going to get into the team now ….. oh hang on a minute ….

  • Matt says:

Kaboul out for 4 months – Oh sh!t!!

  • Graeme says:

If we don’t get any of the others then I’m still happy with what we ve got,Vertogen Siggy dembele Adebayor.
We re already stronger, but agree that if we want to further we need more.
However look at Pompey,Rangers and Leeds and maybe take a breath.

    • Devonshirespur says:

look at our squad. We have about 20 players + the deadwood like Bentley & Jenas & GDS & Gomes

We have sold +£50m this summer and spent about £38m.

VDV is likely to leave (decent fee & big wages). With the deadwood that could be another £15m or so.

SO if we got Remy (£15m) Lloris (£12m) Mountinho (£20m) and Afelay on loan the net spend would be about £20m…..not much in modern terms especially when you consider we sold Pavlyuchenko in jan for £10m.

    • Richmondspurs says:

Totally agree. Great four signings. Anything more will be a bonus. We should have enough cash for fees and wages through. We’ve trimmed the squad down a LOT

  • 4 Ever Hopeful says:

Yeah “solid box to box” and “great engine” sounds like estate agents speak when there is nothing more appealing to advertise. I wonder if he is any good. He sounds like a latter day John Pratt; workmanlike but not somebody you would want to build a team around for €20m.
