Sell Modric This Afternoon

Good morning.

In my inimitable wisdom I’ve decided we should flog Modric this afternoon.

The suggestion is that Levy & Co are perfectly within their rights to ask for £40M for him as he still has yards and yards of legally binding contract left to run.

And there’s the nub of it. Footballer contracts aren’t worth the laughing gas that was being liberally consumed while they were being drafted. They’re a handshake, a mother asking a child, ‘please don’t’, a whim, a fancy …a hope. If Levy & Co are on a crusade to enforce their rights in law then that way madness lies. Crusades are expensive and require you to unplug your brain for their duration.

The guy wants out. He’s not not very bright without a ball at his feet, but he knows what he wants. He signed a lengthy contract and then announced about a fortnight later that there was a gentleman’s agreement separate to it in existence that would allow the contract to be null and void. The caliber of work one would might expect from a 6 year old negotiating for sweets twenty minutes before dinner is served.

Then it appears he hadn’t fallen in love with Roman Abramovich’s money, it was more ‘money in general’ and so if Los Blancos coins stood up to the ancient Croatian tradition of a rat bite then they would be as equally welcome.

He is never going to play his very very best for us again. You do know that, don’t you? I mean I’m not typing this out only to have it read by some long term unemployed tea bag commercial chimpanzees am I?

He was ‘alright’ last season, but he didn’t score enough goals and he didn’t look anywhere near like he was worth £30M , let alone £40m. We won’t sell to him to competitors and as Mysterious Stranger pointed out yesterday that achieves one thing. You decrease the size of the marketplace and you decrease the value of the product. You ever been to an auction? There’s a golden rule. ‘All you need are two people in the room that really want it. If you’ve three, then Happy Christmas.’

We have Real Madrid and nobody else.

The notion to ‘throw him into the reserves and let him rot’ is all very admirable, but we’re back into crusade territory. Not even the RSPCA are going to show any interest in him if you do that. You’re effectively setting fire to £30M quid in your back garden out of spite.

Now none of us truly know what the deal with any of these striker negotiations are. That’s not up for debate. Unless of course the chairman is reading. In which instance, be a love and please use the comments box below.

But what we can guess with some degree of accuracy is that money is large element in the equation. We need to cut our losses and quickly. Preferably before teatime.

I live in City heartland there won’t be a tear shed a Johnson leaving City fans have barelys a decent word to say about him.

    As for this article…..
Roll up, roll up come and get your decent players cheap as chips Bale next year, then Walker, Kaboul etc etc

We are trying to build a decent team if at the first sign of one of the big clubs interest we roll over and have our bellies tickled we may as start playing in claret & blue and have ASBO-BET written across the front of the shirts.
Football is a business, thank god we’ve a decent businessman in charge who in my eyes has taken us forward from the mid 90’s when we truly were shite.
We want to be a big club, we are trying to act like a big club. You want our best players you make an offer to good to turn down. £30m for one of the world’s best midfielders! Piss off come back when your being serious. Did you not watch Spain v Croatia in the euros? The best collective midfield in the world against Croatia’s motley lot? Modric was as good as anyone on the pitch! Why do you think Jose & RM want him? He’s top draw, he doesn’t want to play for us, fine – pay top draw money or fuck off he’s on a long term contract and he will be used as an example to all those that follow. We will not have our pants pulled down!!

We are Tottenham, mighty Tottenham from the Lane!

    End of.

Too damned right. Pay up or piss off. Tried buying £100,000 Ferrari for £5000, salesman told me to do one.

      • Starsky says:

but the Ferrari didn’t refuse to start, or not get out of 1st gear afterwards did it?

Our Ferrari has removed his Dizzy cap and locked it in the glovebox with the travel sweets.

Finally got it started, and out of first, but continued to play up so I will just hold onto it til I can get the right price. Got a Cortina back-up so in no hurry as it will hold its price for next year or two. Damned foreign muck.

        • Starsky says:

I think hudd is more of a Transit than a Cortina.

        • totnam says:

Transit ,maybe, but it’s great starting it up for the first time in a while, blowing out the cobwebs and putting it through its paces. Only drawbacks are realising that the problem hasn’t fixed itself and realising why you put it in the garage in the first place!

    • Loke says:

      Well spoken Sir.

      • CptCaveman says:

Agreed. Fed up with this just get rid mentality…what does that say abot us?? We’re NOT Arsenal, we’re NOT a selling club. No his attitude isn’t right but the answer isn’t just to get shot. If Harry didn’t drop the ball we might be in the Champs League and he might have had his passion re-installed. But thats history..right now we need to deal with this issue before it gets out of control. If Real think by turning heads they can get a cheap deal…they must be sent packing otherwise Bale etc will be next. Levy is the man for negotiations…I hope he tells them, like all last minute deals these day…the longer they leave it, the more expensive it gets. If you shaft us in time to find a replacement, we shaft you on the price.

    • Lewolewo says:

even if he plays for the stiffs for the whole season, he will still be worth £30m next window or next summer, whoever cracks first loses big bucks and we need all we can get to move forward. stick to you guns DL.

    • Yidango says:

      Totally agree…

  • Razspur says:

Lightly soiled creative midfielder, many years left in him, has the ability to change games but don’t let him shoot from outside the box. Runs on low octane Euro’s but lots of, only drawback is that he is easily confused by the paperwork and does not fly very well ( to the USA anyway).
One time only bargain Basement price of £35million British Sterling to a good home.
Quick before this item is snapped as it’s unrepeatable, thanks for bidding.

Well, I’ll be glad to see the back of the petulant rat faced twerp. Never want to see him in a Spurs shirt again. The man is a disgrace. And as for his agent advising him, well, he just needs a good old fashioned t-bagging.

  • Starsky says:

Bang on H – Flog the rotter before he’s rotten.

Bring in some other Johnny Foreigner and be done with him.

  • Habib says:

A worthy rant there ol’ chap. I couldn’t agree more. What people need to realize that the money you get from him is one thing, the loss of points on the pitch that result from a protracted negotiation have their own cost which the 87M pounds spent in panic post Berba can well attest.

I wouldn’t mind a straight swap with Moutinho. Let’s make our money from the Champion’s League then; the good ol’ new fashioned way.

    • Come back Jurgen says:

Well why hold out for 30mln, lets just sell him at 20 and buy Moutinho anyway. Fcuk it. Footballs not about money anymore, who cares if we dont get the best deal and sell our best players without any proper negotiating and let bigger clubs walk over us. We are West Ham after all……..

Seriously though, what if Real were only offering 20? You’d just take it? Or are you only taking 30 because you believe that is what he is worth. If so, then the real difference in opinion is that you value Modric at 30, and Levy values him at 40 so its nothing to do with just doing the deal and getting over it, iots about not getting taken up the ass by a bigger club and player power.
