Send Three & Fourpence We’re Going To A Dance

Good morning.

It’s funny how people’s minds work when they become anxious. The boss’ line up was naive, the changes he made a no brainer if you listen to those that don’t wish him well. After Arry’s appearance MOTD the same mob are anticipating QPR finishing 5th. And does anyone know why Arry has his arms on his seat like he’s driving a wheelchair?

If we learned much from yesterday it is that Jamie Redschnapps is a malicious toad that we need reinforcements. This was proof if it were ever needed that we did indeed get off lightly against City. Or at least some 75 minutes of of proof.

The knock on effect of players being out has been guys being played out of position and guys getting played who simply aren’t good enough. Let’s have a look at the whys and wherefores player by player and see if we can reach a conclusion that makes sense in the bit under Villas-Boas’ snap.

Given the circumstances I’m more minded to think how many we might have conceded had he not been there. This bizarrely or not depending upon how your mind works is is precisely the right time to hand over the reigns to Hugo. We cannot afford to play with this guy’s head. We already have one psychological minefield on our goalkeeping staff and don’t need a second. Was it a faultless performance? No. Welcome to the real world. Brad’s 141, he’s be just fine about it.

I remember running a piece a few years back saying that King had had it. One bright spark suggested that blogs such as mine were irresponsible and didn’t aid the player’s recovery, in fact the opposite. I was making his knee worse. So I await the accusation that I made Kyle Walker daft as a brush. Watching him has become a bit depressing. He urgently needs someone assist him to master basic defending and then half a dozen other simple passes he needs to master. All this belting around is largely pointless.

Good works get overlooked and mistakes are bellowed about from the rooftops. Sounds a lot like the way my ex operated. Maybe he’s as sick and tired of playing alongside Forrest Gump and ‘this weeks’ other CB as we are watching them. You build a ateam from the back. And the return of Benny cannot come soon enough.

Despite shoeing some promise, this was a step to far. Again, if we had better options then he wouldn’t be exposed like this. For all of Benny’s faults and various quirks he’s a proper Premier League left back and minus him we’re simply wall papering over the cracks. Verts does play for Belgium at LB, but the last time I looked it is a Tottenham shirt he wears every week. The defense needs balance and that will only come from being settled in it’s formation.

Had a comfortable enough game but I’m convinced that the way forward is him playing CB with Kaboom. Benny on the left of them and we throw the two Kyles half a pool cue each. ‘Now, our operation is small, but there’s a lot of potential for “aggressive” expansion. So, which one of you fine gentlemen would like to join our team? Oh, there’s only one spot open right now, so we’re gonna have…Tryouts. Make it fast.’

A bit of a nothingy performance if we’re going to be honest with ourselves.

‘Paaaaaaaaaaaaaaain!’ One tough rockin’ bar steward. No prisoners, but more importantly he is constantly wanting to build, turn possession into attack. You can hear him on the ball. ‘Who’s with me?!’ What a great buy. Inspirational character.

Oh look, let’s stop kidding ourselves. Get that Carroll lad in from the off and be done with it. Carroll deserves a run based upon whilst he doesn’t offer the occasional breathtaking pass he offers so much more in every other single department.

How the mighty have fallen. This was supposed to be a big season for him and he’s becoming increasingly invisible for huge parts of games. We need him to put in bigger shifts, it’s that straightforward. Defensively he thinks he’s above it all and sure, while the goal was superb, the rest of his 95 minutes wasn’t. Needs some tough love and less indulging.

What an idiot and anyone who wants to whine about Howard Webb’s decision to show a red is being beyond naive.

A largely horrible performance were any good he did was marred with a largely miserable attitude after Adebayor walked. So for 75 minutes his one dimensional contribution was joyless. He constantly looks to others and never to himself. Infuriatingly limited.

We keep waiting, hoping.

Did playing 10 men for really add up to a 3 goal difference in the scoreline? No. Having to field a hotch-potch side yet again and having to play without the best player from our last game is what killed us off. The opening 11 was good. I didn’t see anything wrong with it at all given the missing personnel. The substitutions were also spot on.

What some of you may not wish to factor in is that the Arsenal side that played was stronger than was widely anticipated and they actually had a good game and deserved to win. 5-2 isn’t pinching it. So you need to look at why and not just make knee jerk responses.

Well it’s another crappy away game out of the way. Ade has to take responsibility for the lousy challenge and what it’s cost the manager, the club and the fans. not only in this game but the next 3 fixtures.

Things are BAD and the manager needs players to become available before he has a chance to create any equilibrium for the squad. Don’t envy AVB at all right now, no manager in the Prem would.

With his history at Chavski, injured players, Ade suspended and a large group of fans expecting us to play like Barcelona I’m surprised he’s not a nervous wreck. At this rate, he wont need firing, expect him to hang himself by Christmas day.

We should be thinking about a new Manager – my vote is for ……….? bring Harry back.

  • Bruxie says:

    Well.
I don’t know about you…but I would never admit that my confidence is low before a match.
Particularly, if you were facing another London derby at the weekend.
I’m not sure Gallas is the man to recover the confidence, either. He isn’t exactly the bond keeping the team together.
Let’s leave AVB out of this for a minute and concentrate on the make up of the squad. And I don’t mean their eyeliner.
We have a club whereby we play at various different levels – from youth through to U-21 – so what have we been doing for the last three or four years? I cannot believe that we are producing players only suited to the lower divisions and loan periods to teams like Millwall, Yeovil and others.
Where exactly, are the players at 17, 18, 19 20?
If Liverpool are producing youngsters and Everton providing players for the first team and even Southampton are producing kids that can attract mega bids from top clubs – then where are ours?
I’ve a sneaking suspicion that we are too scared to blood some of our kids for fear of criticism from our own fans.
Bring in Carroll and Coulibaly now and get them used to the first team set-up and then on to “do a Wellbeck, Stirling and Jack Butland.
What have we got to lose, exactly? We are hamstrung with injuries to Parker, Dembele, Ekotto and Kaboul – and a suspension to Ade. We are suffering from three years of youth non-progression. Ledley was our last home grown star and Caulker is well on the way to emulating him – but I cannot see why we do not have a striker to replace Ade.
With a training ground like ours and a chairman who is attuned to a good business plan, I fail to see the reasons for the non-production of kids to adults. Our Youth system is a feeder club for Brentford and the rest.

    And I’m pissed off.

    • BrizzleSpur says:

You’re right. Desperate times call for desperate measures. We’ve seen a lot of the senior players go out and under-perform. Lets let the kids loose! If they do well then Mr Levy will treat them to pizza hut after the game!

  • Essexian76 says:

We’ve never really produced youngsters en-mass when you analyse it, which was why I was so pleased last season to see the likes of Kane, Carroll, Henricks etc, play in competetive football in front of big crowds-and I would’ve had no problem in watching the same again this season-it was an opportunity few clubs could offer and what a great way to blood them!

    • Bruxie says:

We’re down to the bare bones up-front.

So why not go for it?

      • Essexian76 says:

Absolutely-we played a kid up front last season or perhaps the season before and he looked useful, but I can’t for the life of me think of his name-big lad, very raw-but had something about him?

      • LLL says:

Dunno who we have striker wise? Kane out on loan and crocked. At least Ade can play against Lazio, eh?

It’s actually pretty hard to develop and produce PL standard footballers, especially in this country where the academy system is behind that of many countries in Europe for various reasons. That’s why there are relatively few English players in the top teams. We are down to the bare bones up front, yet we have one of the national sides leading strikers!

        • Bruxie says:

And we have very good strikers at Nextgen and U-21.

          Get ’em in.

What exactly have we got to lose?

        • LLL says:

That depends – do you mean for the premier league or the ropa dope?

        • Essexian76 says:

Yes, Forgot about Ade being available TBH, perhaps giving Defoe a break will be good as well.
That aside.Look at the stick Livermores taken on here-and he’s still WIP,even Kane began to get it, and that’s when young players need the crowd’s confidence mostly-but I cannot understand why Falque isn’t at least in the PL squad more often? He’s a bit harem scarem- but sometimes that ability alone works

        • Essexian76 says:

Been thinking about our youth players on the recent past and apart from King, the last major influx of home growns must have been during Venables’ time Barmby,Judas,Carr,Walker, but was that TV or Pleat’s influence?

        • LLL says:

Perhaps a bit of both and neither? Just luck, circumstance etc.

To give Levy credit, the new training ground etc is part of a major effort to improve the youth development. Apart from anything else, it is financially shrewd. If you can produce even 2 first teamers per decade it will likely be a smaller investment than the millions spent on pro transfers.

        • Bruxie says:

Yuo are correct about the stick from the crowd.

Defoe is good for Sunday. Provided we don’t get him injured in Rome.

FFS. Get the kids in and stuff the ropa-dopa.

  • Alspur says:

Does anyone want to form a team to do this?

Looks like it might be a laugh…

      • Boy Charioteer says:

The direct from a corner that Greavsie scored was our 2-1 win against them at the end of 66-67 season. The 68-69 winner was hilarious. Spurs got a free kick just outside the box and there was a hell of a row with the Liverpool goalie Tommy Lawrence as to whether the ball was handled just outside the box with Lawrence continually demonstrating where he thought the ball was by continually banging the ball just inside the line. As the row heated up Greavsie casually walked up to the ref, muttered something in his ear and booted the ball in the empty net. The ref gave the goal. One could say that the Liverpool players were less than impressed by the decision.

        • Essexian76 says:

Strange, I don’t recall that-but can something a year or so earlier, especially as I was only about 9-but I suppose that’s the beauty of being there and not having the benefits of TV etc.

        • Boy Charioteer says:

It was M.O.T.D (there was only one in those days), with Kenneth Wolstenholme moralizing and trying to suppress his admiration for Greavsie’s quick thinking and audacity.
