Liverpool are reportedly closing in on a move for Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye, with the Reds growing increasingly optimistic about striking a deal.
The 18-year-old has emerged as a primary target for Liverpool this summer, with the club making direct contact with his agent Jorge Mendes over a potential move to Anfield.
Mbaye is considered one of the brightest young talents in French football, having risen through PSG’s academy before forcing his way into senior contention.
He made history at PSG by becoming the club’s youngest ever starter, featuring in a 4-1 win over Le Havre on August 16, 2024, at just 16 years and 205 days old.
RMC Sport report that Liverpool have stepped up their interest and are among multiple clubs to have made inquiries, with Bayer Leverkusen also credited with interest in the teenager.
PSG are understood to be open to selling Mbaye this summer, with the French champions valuing the winger at somewhere between £34 million and £42 million.
After representing France at youth level, Mbaye switched his international allegiance to Senegal and made an immediate impression for the Teranga Lions, scoring in his second appearance.
He went on to further cement his reputation by scoring at the FIFA World Cup against France, becoming both the youngest Senegalese player and the youngest African footballer to score at the tournament, at 18 years and 142 days old.
Liverpool’s interest in Mbaye is understood to have intensified following Mohamed Salah’s departure, with the teenager seen as a natural fit for the right wing role at Anfield.
Mbaye is reportedly eager to leave PSG this summer and is attracted to Liverpool’s project, with personal terms said to have already been agreed between the player and the club.
Crucially, any potential deal for Mbaye is not expected to affect Liverpool’s separate pursuit of PSG teammate Bradley Barcola, with a reported €120 million move for the France international still very much alive.
Liverpool’s move for the teenager signals a clear intent to reshape their attacking options ahead of next season, combining youth and proven quality in their recruitment strategy.
