Hello.

Tough gig being on the verge of first team football. Spurs fans in general are optimistic and welcoming to those wanting to break through. But only a handful of folk get to see them play and footage is often rarer than rocking horse do do.

And speaking of wooden things with limited mobility, it would be great to have someone with a bit of ‘zip’ at the back if they are supposed to playing in an attacking role too.

It’s definitely better on here when I don’t blog  Know your strengths, play to your weaknesses, dare to fail.

I think the poor full back is getting a bit of a rough ride; top quality full backs are worth their weight and more. I think there is a difficulty here tho’ that they are constantly haveing their roles re-defined by the srategists and for any new manager that takes over, its a soft touch for a manager, demonstrate your innovative nature but risk little.

Charlie’s perfomance against Wet Spam was a case in point. Clearly they were acting out a training ground scenario with Charlie getting wide of the box then cutting in but sending the ball to the line for the overlapping (or underlapping) Lennon. It worked a couple of times, but when it failed Charlie was blamed for a wasted ball rather than Lennon for not having made the run.

Full backs are also required to be highly intuitive as to when they attack and when they defend and are labelled too slow because they do not possess the pace of an out and out winger when attacking and generally look slow by comparison when defending.

I think you are right about charlies role against the spammers him and lennon play well naturally they dont need coaching interference.although i think hutton and lennon do need ironing out.I THINK CHARLIE IS A VERY GOOD RB AND HAS A VERY GOOD EYE FOR THE PASS FORWARD BY INSTINCT,LEAVE WELL ALONE REDSCNAPPS. GET ON DEFOES BACK INSTEAD.having charlie and benny as backs has been the best pairing since kinnear and the nice one.

      • Finn says:

Yeah I agree with the pairing comment and I’ll add to that with the recollection of a comment (I can’t recall who) but it was about Charlie being the hardest tackler in the league. I also think Benny is really starting to shine and doing a litte less of the risky stuff…..he’s bound to fuck one up now I’ve said that isn’t he!

A sig play of Charlie is the ball to Az inside the FB which looks awesome when it woks and idiotic when it don’t work. When it works it leads to a genuine opening. The safer bet is a wasteful booming cross to nobody into the box. If we demand players go for the safer bet all the time then they will all pass like Jenas.

what’s this about bale doing a hammy in training for wales?
Q: what that book you’re reading?
    A: Moby Dick
    Q: Porno? can’t stand porno
    A: nah – it’s about whales
Q: can’t stand those welsh bastards either

    • MysteriousStranger says:

      Who are these Q & A chaps?

      • MysteriousStranger says:

As long as Bale is fit for us, I couldn’t give a monkeys what he does or doesn’t do in some poxy international.

Still, does anyone want to suggest why Gary Speed’s assistant said “The incompetent amateurs struck again”?

He couldn’t be having a dig at our conditioning team, could he? But we do so well with injuries… :dizzy2:

  • MysteriousStranger says:

Anyway, Real Madrid getting beat is a great story, regardless of sport. And the commentary is classic.

Let’s hope our boys can induce similar fits from the spanish booth!
