Mornin’.

Positives have to include Crouch’s game efforts to cleanse himself of the Real Madyid fiasco, Modders scored, Dances With Scones was back to an extent and it emerged that Super Romancrazypavinchenko is quite good at playing football.

Negatives to be factored in would be quite simply if we are unable to hold a two goal lead againist Stoke City, then perhaps the task against Joso Mourinho’s boys ought to be undertaken in Bernie Clifton ostritches and at least we could say we were doing it for charity.

We’ve now scored I think about half a dozen goals less than Citeh, which even to twitching wannabe tax exile says we have not so much a scoring problem – although Defoe should be swapped for someone with more to their game than ‘under me right foot and piiiing!’ – but a defensive one.

Citeh are quite frugal with how many they score, but this is compensated by the fact they conceed very few. We do not.

The Woodgate and King thing needs to be addressed once and for all and before a ball is kicked next season and without fail. Sod the ‘Long Live The King’ brigade. He’s finished. Lots of love, respect, kudos and lingering hugs, fit some platinum castors on him and send him out to stud and graze in the Essex nightclub scene. Woody should be given a VW Campervan, The Hair Bair Bunch Collection on DVD, a suitcase full of money and a map of the world.

Word today is that HisNameIsRioAndHe’sAlwaysInTheStands was approached. Wonderfully ambitious. Who next, Frankie Lampard? Let’s stop fannying about and shore up Kaboul and Dawson and get on with it. There are lots of top notch defenders out there. And much easier business than trying to land a striker.

That is all.

People saying that we won’t finish above City have failed to take into consideration just how crap City actually are.

They are about as good as any of the teams fighting for places 4th to 6th.

I now understand why we didn’t get involved in the Suarez, Carroll transfers – it was so they could breathe life into Liverpool so they could then strike a blow for us against Citeh.

As Astro said, Suarez is hardly setting the goal-baggers chart alight. At least, not so much the chart containing his name. :ermm:

I’m sure Carroll is finding playing with him to his liking. You could hardly suggest Suarez was a poor purchase though.

I said Liverpool got the better end of that deal when they sent Torres off to Chelski, and bought those two. Torres’ star is dimming.

What really will probably matter to us, is how crap we are against Liverpool, and Citeh. Only then we can start being a smug clever-clogs. Or embarrassed.

So, setting up goals for your team mates is a positive thing then? It’s only that when Crouch does it, you seem to think it’s not what he’s there for… That he should be scoring them not setting them up? :kissing:

Never said that Suarez was a bad buy, or Carroll for that matter… I would very much have liked Suarez, although he has a very similar style to other players we have. Just that in Carroll’s case, £35m for a man with a drink problem and less than half a season experience in the PL would have most erstwhile kings of hindsight on this here splash muttering knee-jerk and waste of money at Levy and Redknapp.

Look back over the old posts… I don’t think you’ll find many that were backing that kind of outlay on the barcode at the time.

Yes. Look back over the old posts, and I said whilst it may sound a lot, in the context of the sale of Torres and the addition of Suarez, they did a very good deal to improve their side.

Basic stats. Not adjusted for substitute appearances, Suarez 7 games 2 goals 2 assists in the league (27 shots). Crouch 28 games 4 goals 7 assists (43 shots). Suarez age 24. Crouch age 30. Suarez new to league. Crouch old hand.

I know who I’d prefer in our team.

As for Carroll and his alleged “drink problem”, that’s an interesting take from a supporter of a team that celebrates the past achievements of another Geordie, one Gazza.

They bought two relatively young strikers, sold one, for a net difference of around £7.5 million. We bought old Crouch for £9 million. Still, he did justify his fee for one season of CL glory I suppose. And right now, I probably actually favour him over Defoe.  :shocked2: :shocked2:   :sideways: :sideways: :silly:

Having just watched the Liverpool players hurtling non-stop round the pitch for 90 minutes, I am starting to wonder whether Davspurs may be on to something.

I think we are seeing some chickens coming home to roost, both with Citeh and the Dippers but also our own place in the firmament.

I would hazard to suggest tha many here would have seen the demise of the Bin Dippers as something for a crafty sniggle, but I think few would have really believed that this was their death knell anymore than 2 from 8 was ours.

I think that the squad and deepth of LFC has been there all along but the catastophes entirely self managed with the Fat Spanish Waiter together with the various old and new owners contributing to a massive cluster-fuck. That this has had an effect on the pitch is hardly suprising and in many ways they have doen well to keep any semblance of a squad together.

Dalgliesh is first rate manager, he’s proved it time and again and he has started to galvanise his squad. It might be a bit late for this year but if any of the top 5 slip they’ll rip our throats out. They have to play the Goons and us but the rest of their fixtures are very winnable. We play the Goons and the Chavs and Citeh AND them……AND we have been less than convincing on our “easier” games: they have forwards who can score we have not.

I think they will press us and quite possibly Citeh too, very hard: abetting man might look at the fixture and form and suggest 5th or 4th is likely to be theirs if they hold their nerve….I think few will really be suprised by this, its just been a slow train a comin’.

Our fate is very nearly in our own hands but now, but our propensity for dancing with disaster means even small slips will see us struggle to make the Europa.

I think you’re overstating their case somewhat. Let’s not forget that they were beaten by West Brom last week and last night’s scoreline flattered them somewhat; they weren’t all that good — City were just worse.

    Its game on then.

    I quite like scousers

Being away from the day to day (including TV, newspapers, radio, etc.) – forcibly for the last weeks – has some advantages. The opportunity to see matters in perspective, for example. Like being on Mars. At that distance, things look different. For instance:

    1. The Hudd Factor. He’s vital to our success. Was so in the early CL stage when he singlehandedly pulled us back in Switzerland. His distribution and ability to keep us playing across the whole field was what made the Berb-Keane partnership so effective (Carrick was the key earlier, but Hudd is superior to Carrick, he can shoot.) It’s no coincidence that the moment he’s back we score three goals, two from the striker department, and our ball movement and over all shape are improved (all this info. from catching up here and so on). He’s got to start in every important game till the season’s over. And that means every game (if his body can take it).

    2. The 4-4-2 factor. That’s our best formation. Stop shilly shallying around with 4-4-1-1 and its derivatives. Pav and VdV up front. Lennon, Hudd, Modders (free to move up ) and Bale. Gallas, Kaboul, Dawson and A&E. Tell them they will play every day.

    3. The ‘Arry Factor. There’s nothing really wrong with ‘Arry as a manager/tactician (though I wish he would keep his mouth shut media wise (yes, he could learn from the Fergie fellah in this regard). Other than he’s not going to be around for long, or at least has made it clear he wants the national job. That’s the real flaw. We want someone with talent at the helm whom the directors will back for the long haul, and who himself sees the post as his summit. That’s the Fergie factor. That’s the glue which spreads to the squad, over time, so that the chatter about so and so leaving simply falls away. Levy needs to get that man in ASAP.

In my humble opinion. Sitting on the edge of Mars and looking down the exhaust of a shooting star…
