Fact is that the money gets spent anyway. It makes sense if its Keane, Bentley, etc who are simply using up valuable resources, but not if its Modric who is the linchpin of the whole team.
We have plenty of fat to trim from the squad and can realise the necessary funds / wage savings without having to strengthen our competitors.
Different to Carrick & Berba, Modric is on a 5 year deal. Carrick & Berba had 2 years left, refused new deals and could have been worth half of what we sold them for 1 year later.
