Curiouser And Curiouser

Good evening.

Curious ain’t the half of it. Only Professor Stephen Hawking and Margaret Thatcher pairinbg up on Strictly Come Dancing could have possibly dropped more points than the Premiership ‘big boys’ did today.

Fulham haven’t been playing convincing at all this season yet this lot are suddenly overachieving  footballing warriors who can waltz into Second Hand Fridge and nick a point before tea time.

Manchester City up until this morning were a handing out jolly good hidings  like Mario Balotelli was handing out twenty pound notes. Yet West Brom, possibly one of the dullest football teams ever devised by man – managed to successfully muffle them.

Liverpool have admittedly been carrying Andy Carroll about like a damp sack of cement in human form all season. But Blackburn are so godawful even they have fewer points/reasons to continue trading than Bolton Wanderers. Yet they too audaciously swooped into Afield and grab a point.

Meanwhile, the mighty Tottingham are still third and still with that increasingly valuable game  in hand. Wow.  And our next three fixtures in apple pie order are Norwich(A), Swansea (A) and West Brom (H).

To try and construct some comparative analysis between our next games and other team’s next three would be not just tricky but actually insane. However what we do know is that football form is self propelling beast. Just ask Owen Coyle.

If we can add another 9 points to ‘the haul’ so far – which we really ought to – then the momentum should keep us securely in the top four for a good while yet.

Happy Christmas so far, anyway.

Some very negative Spurs fans here, next 2 away, Norwich & Swansea if we don`t take all 6 points we are not contenders. Then 3 home games, WBA,Everton & Wolves, would anyone doubt all 9 points ? Man City on 22nd away is very tough.
Believe and it shall be so……Doubters are losers !

Don’t be a snob. Have the other ‘top6’ sides all won there? Hmm. They’ll be no title contenders left by that reckoning.

      • Razspur says:

Either you believe we are good enough or we are not, yes we must give them the respect they deserve but the type of football we can play, neither could live with us in full flow. If this is “Being a snob” then i am guilty as charged.

Im just going on form, 4 wins out of 8 so far …. 6 pts would be great. Just trying to be realistic .

Got the retro Spurs 1961 double shirt for xmas, it`s the #10, that would have been Les Allen (Clive`s Dad)anyone have any info on him ? or do you know anything nabout Micky Hazard or Ille Dumatrescu ? Les Allen scored the goal to seal the 1st Div Championship 17 days before the Cup Final.

    • onedavemackay says:

I seem to remember that Les Allen scored 5 goals in the FA cup 13-2 against Crewe Alexandra in February 1960 and was good for almost a goal every other game whilst at Spurs. He was unlucky that Jimmy Greaves arrived as Les was a pretty decent player himself. Jimmy, however, was a world class striker and there was none better in England at that time only Dennis Law came close.

      • Razspur says:

I think Les scored almost 200 goals for us over a 10 year spell, that almost equates to Shearers 206 for Newcastle over 10 years, prolific.

        • SpurredoninDublin says:

He played 137 games for us scoring 64 goals. We bought him from Chelsea, the same club where we bought his replacement: Jimmy Greaves.

After he left us, he went oin to play for QPR, where he won the League Cup in the first Wembley League Cup Final. I believe he was the first player to have won all three domestic medals, but I am not 100% sure.

        • SpurredoninDublin says:

Just occurred to me, that the shirt you have unless it says (e.g.) Final Wembley 1961, is from an era when the clubs hadn’t cottoned on to ripping off the fans with multiple strips etc, and that could have been worn by any one of several players, such as JG, Clive Allen, El Tel and I think Martin Peters also had the number for a while.

    • werefukednowarry says:

I also got the 61 shirt :-D who wore number 4 though. anyone

    • jerkinmahjurgen says:

      I don’t think Dimitrescu played in the ’61 side ;}

  • Razspur says:

He did in fact score 49 in 119 league appearances from 59-65, prev played for Chelsea.

  • JPG466 says:

talking of retro , the 1963 CWCup Final shirt only comes in #8, so grabbed it being Greavesie’s usual number, only to find he played #10 that day…

looking fwd to watching tomorrow’s game at Norwich.. with 3 of today’s results in our favour, i’m sure Harry will seize the chance to widen the gap and play an attacking line-up.

  • notsohotspurs says:

Norwich and Swansea both try to play football. Nobody currently can get close to us when just playing football. Stoke, physical long throw and longball chelsea stopped us getting wins recently.
Norwich and Swansea won’t. 6 points and Spurs to be in contention again.

    Glory glory.

    • Andy says:

I’m worried for Swansea, they have an amazing home defensive record so could see it being a draw

      • onedavemackay says:

Swansea have only let in 2 goals at home but they’ve only played one top side there. They’ve let in 19 away so they don’t look impregnable to me and with no disrespect to them or the Canaries we really ought to beat both of them

      • Stephen says:

Yeah but their best defender belongs to us and is ineligible, so will be an easier ask

    • onedavemackay says:

You are right. We are capable of scoring at any time in any game against most teams and if we attack Norwich we should win.
