Everybody Out!

Good afternoon.

You can’t order a cheese roll and when you get a sirloin by mistake moan you about the absence of a steak knife.

And if you hear a more convoluted analogy than that in your life, be sure to let me know. THFC went into that game tactically inept to play a decent side. THFC were quite vocal about the Mickey Mouse nature of the Europa. THFC chuckled quietly as they priced tickets for the Europa. THFC trod a fine line between fact and fiction prior to banking Invetec’s cheque.

So whining over this loss isn’t something you’re going to catch me doing. What we lacked was …our first team against a side that weren’t rubbish who ….decided to field theirs.

I routinely wish Levy & Co well but in this was a mistake and one that will hover around like the rectal gas of a pensioner living on diet of nothing but cabbage soup.

Great to see the kids get a run out. Yeah right. If that was the mission statement then how come we fielded a botch job of a team? You can’t have it both ways (that’s what she said).

You field are full squad or you field the kids. Unless you’re Manchester United. Or Arsenal when they are going through the gears which at this moment in time they are not.

Oh so I geddet, Aitch – you’re blaming Arry. The best man manager Mao Tse Tung! Well, he’s …the m a n a g e r  or did someone else pick the team?

So wot abaht our brave boys having to play twice a week? Talk to Jimmy Greaves, sweetheart. He treated himself to new knees in his 69th year from money he never earned from kicking a ball.

Not going to defend the team selection at all, but personally I blame the players for their narcoleptic tendencies the first 20 minutes.

Spoke to some colleagues who had watched the second half. They thought we looked good, and would have deserved to score a few. My initial reaction to this was “what game were you watching?”. But it did get me thinking that maybe, just maybe, I am a little tiny bit prejudiced against a few of our lads, and focus on the negatives while ingnoring the positives in their performances.

I will never admit, however, that any prejudice tilted my opinion of Peanut’s performance. What he served up yesterday was pure and utter sh*t. A joke. And not the funny kind.

And now for something completely different. The blog title reminded me of this brilliant little bit.

      haha brilliant,

i know that peanut, charlie, billy and basoon were pretty bad but it is practically the first game they palyed,i still think they should be able to take the greeks though,i would have preffered to see carroll and sandro in the middle last night

but anyway we must beat bolton on sat, that is the main thing,i so hope we can carry on the run

also i know they are young but what weapons does kane have for a striker,it seems like he is a couple of decades to late

and what type of midfielder is livermore,is he a soldier in the middle, the famous box to box type,i guess he is young and athletic enough to learn that role

The Club’s attitude, from top to bottom, towards the Europa is quite frankly a little bit disturbing. Who the f*ck do we think we are?

We qualified for the Europa on merit by finishing 5th last season, not via losing to someone in the LC final or through the UEFA Fair Play league. So why shouldn’t we take it seriously?

At the very least (along with putting a trophy in our cabinet, for a change) it should have given us an oppotunity to find a ‘sensible’ rotation system to meet the demands of the PL and midweek European football, because if we qualify for the CL next season, arn’t the same problems going to arise? Didn’t we have these problems last season? And what do we do? We go and f*ck it up, pretend that it doesn’t matter and bang on about the League like a bunch of obsessive fruit-cakes, dismissing the obvious in the process.

We are turning into those pretentious, ‘high and mighty’ hypocrits down the road, who only a few seasons ago mocked and sneered at the League Cup. Six years without a trophy and suddenly it becomes important again. I thought we were better than that. I thought that every game and every competition we entered was important. We have a rich and proud history in Europe that is being tarnished by nothing more than sheer egotism and a short-term mindset.

I, for one will be sad not to see the UEFA Cup sitting in our trophy cabinet again, and if those in charge at our Club don’t see it as a relevance, then don’t go through the pretence of entering the competetion in the fist place, ripping off the fans and making a mockery not only of the competition itself but also ourselves.

To be fair to HR, we should have won last night. If you can’t trust Bassong and Corluka not to make the most basic mistakes, then what are they doing at Spurs? So, we should have qualified without risking our better players (see what happened to Lucas on Tuesday). Job done and take it seriously in the new year. In theory.

We shouldn’t have waited until the punultimate game in the first place. It stinks of arrogance and as a result, the chance of putting a trophy in our cabinet has been spunked up a wall.

This group should have been done and dusted by game 3 or 4, then you start making wholesale changes to the line-up and bring the bratz in…….after qualification has been secured.

I’m aware of the term ‘prioritize’, but our general attitude from the the outset towards the Europa has made the whole process of us ‘competing’ in the competition a sham, so why f*cking bother in the first place?

If i come across as being slightly p*ssed off it’s because i am. This was a missed opportunity.

      @Billy Legit

Much of what you have said, I have posted previously. It was not so long ago, that winning any cup was the mark of a good season for us, but Cup football no longer earns any respect from us, and the disrespect is total including the prices that the fans are asked to pay to see our “reserve side”. If I was Investec, I would make any renewal of the deal, performance related.

Potentially, not including replays, we could play as many as 27 cup games in a season. We are out of the CC after one of six possible matches. It looks like we are out of the EL after 8 out of 17 matches. In both comps, we fielded weakened teams.

Most of us have access to cable/satellite/internet and if you are a neutral do you want to see Townsend and Rose, or Bale and BAE sporting the Investec logo?

Having said that, I do think that until we get the new ground, we will have to balance our limited resources, knowing that a good cup run is quite likely to impinge on our CL aspirations.

I am no different to most fans. I want it all, but realistically, know that if I can only have one, it will be CL qualification.

      • SpurredoninDublin says:

I should have added, that the “CL or bust” policy is not to my liking. I would prefer to go into January knowing that we are in four comps. The reason for that is we have a bad run in the league, we still have a season that might produce cups.

If we were still in four comps at that time, then I would be giving serious thought to concentrating on the PL.

      • Billy Legit says:

What happened when we played in the CL last year?

We got humiliated in both domestic cup competitions, by conceding four to both Fulham and ‘that lot down the road’. We also failed to combine the ‘rigours’ of competing in the League with a mid-week European campaign and as a result qualified for the Europa instead of the CL.

We should have used the Europa this season to blend experience with a sprinkling of bratz from the outset, taken the competition seriously as a spring-board and possible blueprint to prepare for the task of competing in both the CL and PL simultaneously next season.

Instead, nothing seems to have been learned apart from the fact that most our bratz are from the real deal yet.

As i’ve previously posted, a missed opportunity……. in more ways than one.

  • seppoyiddo says:

We don’t have a second team that can compete in Europa and our starters are not worth risking for it. Without better quality competition our fringe players are going to cause problems when they’re needed to replace injured first teamers.

I was told on hear mentioning the dreaded E word followed by the no no word D that science meant footballers where fitter. So it begs the question why did Fulham who played Thursday play Spurs of the park in a second half when science said they should be leggy. Mr Wenger also used the excuse of tiredness for Arsenal drawing with Fulham . I have told you what is going on and it will be in evidence on Saturday in the boots of Bolton players who have shown when relegation looms high tempo shows up. You can ignore his but snappy tackles energised blocks saturated defending in numbers and attack without tiring means no game is a cert any more has Utd Barcelona Rangers Spurs have all found out in the last few days and the biggest winners are the bookmakers. My money would always go on the how desperate the team are we or others teams are playing . Sunderland 1 Wigan 2 was a candidate Palace Getafe and Kilmarnock the Greeks where others. We will need to watch Davies and co because they will be in top four form its a good job we are third Spurs on paper a win in science and the bookmakers eyes ?
