We must get Vertonghen in soon so we can start to transition players early. Gallas has a year left on his contract, but Ledders will have to accept pay as you play, move on or retire.
We need a good young keeper who can benefit from the wealth of knowledge and experience Cuddles and Fred can pass on.
We must keep Modric; he’ll not command the fee now anyway, but we should move Lennon on.
Up front we need to either get on and secure Ade or let him go and get Leandro in, ideally both…. and Remy would be nice too. Move Saha, Gio and Defoe on and back up with some of the youngsters coming through….either the program works or it doesn’t, but it has to have a fair go and young players have to be allowed to make mistakes as they develop. They are under the age limit so don’t draw down on our squad numbers so put a couple in and give them runs at 2-0 with 15 minutes to go.
We HAVE to shift our deadwood. We also need to rotate out support players and that means Kranke and Pienaar and Bassong going and a few new faces coming in hopefully able to cover full back roles.
We are not CL so getting a couple of marquee signings and keeping Ade, Modric and Bale will show intent and also offer a hell of a good squad to be a part of. We need to do it now and DL should focus on getting the difference (about 1.5 mill I’d guess) from selling smart rather than buying cheap.
