£31M Release Fee For Mooted Modric Replacement

Image for £31M Release Fee For Mooted Modric Replacement

Good morning.

Ten days to go, a new manager at the helm and yet we’re scratching for transfer news. The Mirror are taking a punt by naming Bentley, *****, Gio, Bassong and Gallas amongst those who Villas-Boas isn’t interested in keeping on.

Bentley’s linked with Fulham. Apparently Bentley’s knee is fixed now and he’s ready to rock. Judging by this image from the preseason, it was the steak and kidknees that he has really been been battling against.

The Modric and Adebayor sagas appear no more advanced that they were months ago. ‘The Journalist’ who’s record is close to abysmal suggests that enquiries have been made for Alex Witsel as a replacement for the Croat.

Witsel is a 23 year old Belgium currently plying his trade at Benfica. This seems ambitious from a number of perspectives but none more so than Benfica’s president Luis Felipe Vieira being quoted last month as saying:

“We want every club to know what is the release clause for Axel .

“If they want him and if they come here and pay that fee, then there is nothing that we can do.

“But we are very happy with Axel and we do not think about selling him.”

The release clause he was referring to is thought to be about £31M.

We should buy and then sell Modric.
Its the only way that Levy can unhook himself from the leverage situation where they all now think he has to sell to buy.
Jose is playing better poker than daniel as he has the cards. He has a team.He can still buy a midfielder if he has to
With us in the sell to buy mode we are fcuked.
Joe should step in and give the nod to buy and then sell.
Then we will get our price.
Right now we are being pushed by the sellers and the buyers.
    Fcuk em!

Very high risk as we could have players on huge wedge sitting on the bums earning and not playing-that’s why some have to be shipped out pronto before buying, as we cannot afford their wages and squad places for no return.

Im thinking Modric. The others dont add up to much.
If we didnt accept Mourinhos bid then there is no where to go because PSG will lower any bid now as it looks like we are desperate.
If its Poker then Im sure we havent played this right because its not Levy thats calling the shots but Mourinho.
If Levy says we are not selling Modric and proceeds to buy then he has the cards (expensive rent I agree) but this is the game.
If we look weak we are fcucked

we’ve been trying to shift ***** & bentley since 2008/09, levy just asks for silly money and all the clubs he was getting rid of deadwood to have even got wise, got relegated or gone bust.

if we’d given ***** away it would of saved over £8 million in wages, bentley won’t sell because he’s on over 75k a week ffs

for an intelligent man, in the last 6/7 windows Levy has made himself look incredibly stupid. When is he going to realise clubs are not going to sell their better players in the last hour of the transfer window without having the chance of replacing them?

His last minute failed attempts at buying players make us a laughing stock, we offered 36 million for aguero & rossi, my ar5e

But did he really? or was that just paper talk or Harry waffle? I couldn’t believe we’d go for players you’ve mentioned yet struggle to accommodate the likes of Ade,as an example.
I honestly don’t think we’re in the same league to pay these sort of sums let alone finance their wages them over a 3-4 year period. It’s well and good us being linked with these ‘superstars’ but realistically they’re not in our price range. But you’re right about shifting Jenas and Bentley (but I’m still convinced we can get a tune out of him), and at least a loan deal will free up some spaces right now.

Reading the press, Madrid have the upper hand and Spurs have to hurry up and ‘do something to complete the deal’.

Spurs don’t have to ‘do anything’, he’s our player, they want him but don’t want to pay, therefore we have him, they don’t, simple as. If they want him, they have to come up with an acceptable offer.

As was shown last year, once all the transfer talk is done, players just will get on with doing their job on the pitch. It’s a bit like us saying to Porto, “We’ll give you £20m for Moutinho, final offer”, that’s bargaining from a position of weakness.

      • Ronnie Wolman says:

We do need players. So are you suggesting dont buy any and hold Modric until we get the price????

Because if you are saying we should buy first and hold Modric its what I said.

        • jfdit says:

RM have apparently offered 30 million euros or £23 million, we have sell ons to take out of that so the deal looks cheap for RM considering he was the best midfield player at the euros.

I think he’ll get a move but to a club in england, we are manu’s feeder club aren’t we?

        • Gary B says:

No, that wasn’t my point. I agree that we should conduct our business regardless of the Modric saga.

My point was that we are in a far stronger bargaining position regarding Modric than is being portrayed in the media, and he could quite easily be staying put after all is said and done.

So the only issue hanging on Modric should be a potential replacement midfielder.

        • Ronnie Wolman says:

But that we dont know yet.Is it?
Maybe Levy was thinking previously that 40 mil would pay for both a midfielder and striker(20 plus 20) we were talking oin those prices before and if they had to put in 10 more so be it.
If he had set those expectations for himself we know where that is going?
It now 30 mil and if it fell through what would PSG pay? 40? I doubt it this window.
So we are left with time running out.

anyway its all hearsay and projections but nothing has been completed vis a vis these two positions and the clock is running.
Had we put the Modric deal aside from the money for these players we could have had a better bargaining position I think. Still we dont really know whats happening, except for the time.

If Gomes, Bentley,Jenas, and Bassong are to be sold DL needs to accept that he will take a loss on them otherwise he’ll just be going around in circles.

I don’t know why we are in a rush to sell Naughton, he’ll provide good back up to Walker. I think Gallas should be retained while the new system beds in.

    • Qoizu says:

“A Bola” reported today that Witsel is a done deal, €40m. The player is expecting real to come back from usa tour.
      Modric is staying…
