The Bid Went In At Ten O’Clock This Morning

Good afternoon.

Three snippets from the foreign press to explain if not excuse, the near complete and utter lack of success in the transfer market by Barter & Droppit Enfield Ltd t/a THFC.

“I feel sorry for Adebayor because he has no chance at City, has no chance of playing here this season. So it is important that you can find a good solution,”

The above from Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini who was talking to a.bola.pt about the impasse on the Emmanual Adebayor fiasco. A.bola say that the actual transfer fee agreed between City and Spurs was €7M, but Ade then decided he wanted to up his wage demand.

“It is not true that there is an agreement with Liverpool. The only concrete offer was made by Tottenham, which proposed 16 million euros for the player.

The transfer did not materialize because they offered a very low salary. It may be that re-express interest if Modric exit. Inter are also interested but not able to match bids from Premier League clubs, “

The above from Oscar Betancourt speaking to Calciomercatoweb.it

And finally we’ve apparently made a bid for Yan M’Vila, which of course will also be pointless if we can’t match the boy’s Mickey Mouse wage demands… from lequipe.fr…

Yann M’Vila Rennes hopes to sell by the end of the transfer window.

Things seem to be accelerating in recent hours. Monday morning, 10 o’clock, the Breton leaders have received an offer of 15 million euros for their midfielder. She comes from London, specifically Tottenham. It is not suitable to the wishes of the Britons who hope 20 million euros. But the club’s financial situation might change their minds

Adebayor didn’t decide to up his wage demand, his advisors know full well there is a structure at Tottenham and he will be right smack at the top of it.

Instead, he is asking City to settle the discrepancy circa £7m on his existing deal. This is standard practice in football transfers. So it’s slightly mysterious as to why City are holding out, except that they are probably bitter about the sheer expenditure on Adebayor as a whole. Nevertheless, if they want Adebayor off their books they need to pay his contract off. They will do too, and as they start to get going in the market themselves (Rodwell etc)there will be an added impetus to sort out their existing squad issues.

When you think about it what City are doing is very smart, if not slightly risky.

They know we want Ade badly, they know he wants to come to us but if they can keep him and us hanging until 31st August there’s the possibility that we will drop points in the meantime if we don’t get any other strikers in.

We are after all a top 4 rival in their eyes and as we saw last season every point counts!

      • Phil McAvity says:

*Whether or not I think we will be in the top 4 come the end of the season is a totally different discussion though!

“We are after all a top 4 rival in their eyes”.

Please don’t take offence because none is meant but I think you may be suffering from some form of delusion.

        • LLL says:

I don’t think so. OK, City squad wise are far ahead of most clubs – and I’d count Utd, Goons, Liverpool in that – but that doesn’t mean they’d see strengthening any of them – or us – as an especially good idea.

        • Phil McAvity says:

I suffer from lots of things Urbane, delusion being the least of my problems!

Remind me where we finished last season again though? In many people’s eyes we will be there or thereabouts again this season. (As stated by me earlier that is not necessarily my opinion of where we will finish to be honest.)

    • My Heart Is White says:

The reason City aren’t giving Ade what he deserves (sticking to the contract they made with Ade, or compensating him if they want to exterminate the contract) is because they feel that they have dropped the sale price for Ade so Spurs can afford him. Unfortunately, bringing down the sale price helps Spurs, it doesn’t pay Ade what he deserves, which they must legally do! So stop fu(king around City and sort it out now!

  • abe says:

Dempsey is not the worst player around, wonder why we have not gone in for him. Maybe 11:59 on 31 August

  • delboy says:

not to be to serious but ffs levy this is becoming embarasing only 1 striker in jd who hardly got a game last year players we dont need turning us down fucking sell the prick modric spend some cash and stop thinking about profit you greedy little twat llorente would probably cost less than modric

    • TMWNN says:

Patience. After today, there are three whole days before the season kicks off to sign the players, perhaps settle them in a new country/learn a new language, and get them to ‘gel’ with their new team mates. Plenty of time.

I reckon we’ll get Adebayor and a keeper in. Rat face will go at the last minute.

      That’ll be it.

      • LosLorenzo says:

Agreed, this is also what I think will happen. Think we might get in another attacking midfielder as well, but if so not a ready made starter.

  • Cozzer5 says:

It would make life so much simpler if the Transfer Window shut 1 week before the first match of the season.
By the time 31st August comes around we could be six points adrift of early PL leaders.

    • MarseilleYid says:

Trouble is – overseas some leagues have already started, others don’t start till September. They have to set a date somewhere.

What’s bloody stupid is playing a meaningless international friendly three days before the first game.

      • LosLorenzo says:

Well, they don’t HAVE to. Each league could simply have a separate date for registering players, a week or so before kick-off. Obviously, anyone could still sell players after this date.

But that’s not how the BIG clubs and the media (and therefore also Sepp, who’s the only one who really matters) want it, so don’t hold your breath.

        • LosLorenzo says:

It would probably force clubs to be more realistic in their valuation of players, as it would reduce the risk-weighted utility of selling clubs speculation regarding inflated last-minute panic buys, or buying clubs speculating regarding deflated last-minute panic sells (since since there would be a gradual reduction of the size of the buying market, rather than the entire market disappearing at once). As such I would argue that it would increase liquidity in the market as a whole (economists rejoiced).

The problem is that pretty much any league could claim to be at a disadvantage (based on flimsy argumentation). Some would have a shorter transfer window to deal in (early season start). Others would complain that they would be forced to make deals earlier in their preseason, based on less complete assessment of their current squad (leagues with late starts).

This assumes a common starting date, without which some of the claims of “not fair!” would be warranted.

      • Astro Spur says:

The international friendlies are so fecking stupid a few days before the season. Injuries abound methinks!

    • UnkleKev says:

Six points adrift, eh? So you think we’ll get turned over by both Newcastle and West Brom?

Opening fixture aside, we’ve got a relatively gentle start to the season. If we can’t handle it with our existing squad we’re f*cked anyway, in which case there’d be no point in worrying about who is or isn’t coming.

I reckon we’ll be sitting top of the table by the time we play ManU at the end of September. That’s when the real test starts.

  • honestabe says:

Jenas !! backward step if ever i have seen one !
I read that adebayor wanted an extra 4million over and above the settlement negotiated between Spurs and City to make up his wages he would have been paid if he remained on Citys books .
what about Hulk ? He was on fire for Brazil when he came on in the final against Mexico and he has worked with AVB with much success .
