Under The Lights At The Lane

A magical phrase.

Working on the basis that after two pretty iffy league games we are in true Tottingham tradditon a good one, I feel quite positive about tonight. With the obvious exception of the long standing gout sufferers and the likely to be  limited contribution from the Boy Bale, we shape up pretty well.

Once the MO’s list is removed from the equation, my next port of call is Begbie & A&E. I am not a stat man. But I know that I’m running out of stuff to throw at the telly as they both commit stupid foul after stupid foul.

As that charmless nurk Van Persie demonstrated last night, the consequences of daftness are unforgiving. Van Persie claiming he couldn’t hear because of the fans. Yes of course. As anyone who’s been to the Camp Nou will tell you, the thunderous volume is possibly at it’s lowest when the away team are attacking. A few thousand Gooners up in the Gods wouldn’t have drowned out a whistle that every other player heard on every occasion for the duration of the match.

Tottingham need to focus on what we do well and not allow the insanity of an individual error sink us. Sounds obvious, but just because we’re suddenly hitting the high life I’d be sickened to watch us become a posse of hard done by whiners.

On a cheerier note I’m looking forward to Sandro playing again. We are constantly reminded about players needing time to bed in, well this guy appears to mastered that transition and gives me every indication he could be central figure for us.

Predictions. Wow. Now you have me.  3MP Anytime Goalscorer in a 3-2 win is a whopping 40/1. Krankie Anytime Goalscorer in a 2-2 draw is 45/1. I think that they will be goals. Lots of ’em. It’ll be a nail-biter. Because that’s the way we do business.

Oh yes, I have been told I’m on p78 (it’s the new page 3) of this month’s Zoo Magazine. I would imagine it’s a hilarious one liner rather than a full and frank confessional.

Great result tonight and just wanted to add that Lennon deserves a lot of credit for his performance in this game and, judging by how hard milan were doubling up on him, in the first leg too. Azza’s been showing signs of becoming a truely talented midfielder with not just pace but vision and an understanding of play that seemed to be absent just a year ago.

Yes, he does. If Charlie were a little more on top of his game, Aaron would have been free and clear on goal.

Make no mistake, we’ve upset a few apple carts here. Milan threw everything they had at us tonight. I watched the game with my usual match buddies I go with and a couple of Chelski & (dare I say it) Gooner pals.

All the ‘non Spurs’ had to admit that we had it thrown at us like no other team they’d seen in years. This was way beyond what barcelona threw at Arsenal. At one point, Milan were playing almost a front 6, with the full-backs getting forward to support an impressive front 3 and Seedorf pushing forward.

When this kind of stuff happens, your game plan goes out the window and all that’s left is heart & belief. Spurs showed that in bucketloads tonight and while Modders may technically have had his worst game for many a moon, he was still in there battling.

Spurs showed tonight that they are in this competition on merit, and who knows where they may end up. BAE, Charlie, Daws Gallas… All rocks. Sandro, everywhere. Lennon, tireless and great – incredible tracking back – saved us a couple of times. Even J***s may have earned a star back – He came on and did exactly what was needed and took a bit of pressure off, turned for home when there were no options and helped us keep control of the ball.

We may not have a 50 year pedigree in this competition but we’re writing it a new chapter. Even my 85 year old Dad went to the pub to watch the game & he was an Islington boy raised on Herbert Chapman & the Compton Brothers. He loved every minute.

Spurs, you made me proud tonight. Everything from here is a bonus. Love all you guys, love being Lillywhite.

Great night. Thought Crouch and Sandro deserve a special mention. Rafa + Luka a bit subdued. Well done Harry. Barcelona next at the Lane please.

    • A Different Animal says:

I think one of the reasons Sandro could be everywhere is that he had confidence that Luka would cover. Subdued maybe, but he was covering the middle with a relative newbie and no goals were conceded. I’d rate that a job well done.

There’s been a lot of knocking of our scouting system on these pages, but I think we can all put our hands up and send a big ‘well done’ to the guys who spotted Sandro. Than is scouting on a top level.
