Levy & Co. Leave Arry Out Of The Loop

Good morning fight fans.

Fascinating development in the Jan Vertonghen mini saga as the player has let slip that it’s Spurs that are closest to landing him.

What’s fascinating is that it’s now clear that Arry is not involved in the deal. Only a day or two ago our tight lipped supremo said,

“He is a good player, a player I have looked at and watched, I think there are a lot of clubs interested in him though. So, that is all.

“We haven’t gone anywhere with it. We haven’t spoken to the club. He is just a player I have watched, along with a lot of other players.”

But now Jan himself has said,

“Of course I want Ajax to become financially better, but the amount Tottenham are willing to pay, maybe with a little bit extra, is very reasonable.

“In a year from now I could leave the club for free. I hope Ajax are aware of it as the situation of Maarten Stekelenburg’s transfer was very harsh.

He only arrived at the end of pre-season at AS Roma. I want to flow in fluently, directly with the other Spurs players.

“Tottenham is a fantastic traditional club who play football in a way I like. Ajax was the perfect club for me, but Spurs will be very close in nearing that already. They buy young, eager and offensive-minded players.”

I’ve been banging the ‘buy a centre back drum’ for some time. This guy would be absolutely perfect and we need to cough up and sign him. Signing Vertonghen would demonstrate to the likes of Modric that we meant business.

Let’s hope Levy & Co. can pull it off!

Loving the the Redschnapps’ smokescreen theory.

    The guy can’t hold water.

i dont see anywhere in VT’s quote where he said spurs have made any approach for him.

Seems to allude to an offer.

This indicates figure, a bid. I think.

ye, like i said – i dont see anywhere in his quote where he SAID spurs made an approach for him. He is alluding to a lot in that quote – Maarten Stekelenburg must think he is starting a fight

Riddle me this then. What does…

but the amount Tottenham are willing to pay, maybe with a little bit extra, is very reasonable.

…actually mean to you? Does it suggest anything at all?

Don’t tell me what it doesn’t say, just what you think it means.

I can’t see where it says we made a bid either..

        • LosLorenzo says:

He doesn’t say “Tottenham made a bid”. But if we hadn’t made a bid (or at least a verbal offer, if not a written, formal bid), how would he know what “Tottanham are willing to pay”?

      • If our bid is leading the pack, there must be alot of skint clubs out there. Sign him quick before someone tells him about our salary cap.

      • McG says:

Nope, we definitely haven’t made a bid ;-)

We should sign Vertoghen for the benefit of Spurs and not for convincing Modric.
The interests of Spurs go well beyond convincing Modric or any other player.
No player is bigger than the club. Specially Modric.
Buying proper players in time is always advisable and indicates that transfers are well planed.

    • Harry Hotspur says:

      That’s a given.

I mentioned Modric purely because that mercenary dwarf won’t be impressed by us landing more crap like Half Nelson and who could blame him.

Securing classy players benefits everyone was my point :daumen:

Why would King be around, because he is a decent bloke. My Dads a decent bloke but I wouldnt put him in the ring with Klitchco because he talks a good fight.
ledley has been a fantastic player for us and it is sad to see his decline. He has been well looked after by THFC He should have a star stuuded testimonial and then coach our youngsters.
We need a CB pairing not players who move aside when Ledley wakes up feeling good.

Levy is planning for life after Redknapp, he will be given the road next week :winke:

    • hoofing says:

The road to Stamford Fridge no doubt with our prized assets in tow.

      • UnkleKev says:

If Redknapp does hot-foot it to Second-Hand Fridge I’ve no doubt Levy will ensure there is a clause in the agreement between us and Cheatski forbidding this (ala Arnesen a few years ago).
